Chapter 338
She was a light sleeper.
The slightest sound could wake her.
Anna Ross rubbed her eyes.
She reached under her pillow for her phone.
The screen lit up.
She was instantly wide awake.
Anna got up immediately.
She got ready in record time.
She headed straight to the company.
Upon arrival, she didn't even catch her breath.
She knocked directly on the office door.
A deep voice came from inside.
"Come in."
She pushed the door open.
Adrian Sinclair was bent over some files.
His slender fingers flew across the keyboard.
He didn't even look up at her.
She stood there for a moment.
Finally, she spoke.
"Did you transfer Director Lowell?"
The man behind the desk responded indifferently.
He didn't even lift his eyelids.
Anna's heart tightened.
"Do you know what he'll do after this?"
Adrian finally looked up.
His gaze was distant, as if she were a stranger.
"This is none of your concern."
"Weren't you always hoping he'd come to headquarters?"
He leaned back in his chair.
He crossed his hands on the desk.
Cold.
Distant.
Anna felt her concern was unnecessary.
She forced a bitter smile.
"I see."
"I won't disturb you anymore."
She turned to leave.
A cold voice stopped her.
"Wait."
Steady footsteps approached.
They stopped right behind her.
Anna's back stiffened.
She waited for him to continue.
Adrian's voice was clear and cold.
"You'll work under him from now on."
"There's no need to stay on my team."
Her eyelashes fluttered slightly.
His voice sounded again.
"Also."
"You are no longer my mistress."
"You're free."
"You can be with whoever you like."
Adrian's fingers twitched almost imperceptibly.
His brow furrowed slightly.
Anna was speechless.
She just stood there.
Adrian stared at her slender back.
He clenched his fists, suppressing his turbulent emotions.
He had already done those things.
He didn't deserve to stand by her side anymore.
Besides.
Her heart already belonged to someone else.
Since that was the case.
This time, he would let go completely.
"If there's nothing else."
"Go pack your things."
He finished hoarsely.
He returned to his seat and didn't look at her again.
Anna didn't linger.
She left directly.
As she exited, she nearly collided with Chloe Valentine.
Chloe was beaming as she entered.
They almost bumped into each other.
Chloe gave her a once-over.
She sniffed lightly.
She turned to the man at the desk.
She waved a cake box in her hand.
"Adrian."
"I just bought this cake."
"I brought it especially for you."
As she passed Anna, she deliberately bumped her shoulder hard.
She hummed a cheerful tune under her breath.
