Chapter 97

The restaurant had few guests remaining.

A server warmly guided them to their seats.

"Please wait a moment, your dishes will arrive shortly."

The server thoughtfully brought a small plate of desserts.

This would help tide them over.

Anna Ross couldn't help but feel impressed.

New York truly was different from other cities.

Even the service was exceptionally thorough and attentive.

Mia Lawrence suddenly moved closer and sat beside her.

She gently poked Anna's arm.

"Anna, nothing happened on the way here, right?"

"Stop overthinking."

"It was just a regular trip."

"What could possibly happen between us?" Anna's cheeks felt slightly warm.

Her best friend's imagination always ran too wild.

She loved fantasizing about things that didn't exist.

Mia studied her with suspicion.

Anna suddenly remembered what happened earlier.

"But he gave me a key."

"It seems he arranged a place for me in the Bay Area, San Francisco."

Adrian Sinclair had been completely silent throughout the journey.

Did he plan all this in advance?

Anna's mind was in turmoil.

She understood Adrian less and less.

"Oh my god, really!?" Mia's eyes widened.

She then propped her chin on one hand, looking at Anna seriously.

"I think Adrian Sinclair definitely still has feelings for you."

"He acts mean on the surface, but secretly cares about you!"

Anna's expression froze.

She shook her head helplessly. "Stop guessing."

"It wasn't just the two of us on this trip."

"His fiancรฉe, Chloe Valentine, came along too."

"What!? Fiancรฉe!?"

Mia abruptly cut her off.

She took a moment to compose herself, drinking water to calm down.

Then she said indignantly, "He has a fiancรฉe and still messes with you!"

"What a jerk!"

She wasn't satisfied.

She spat out in disgust.

"Men like that are the worst."

"Always wanting to have their cake and eat it too."

"He's clearly toying with you."

"You have to stay clear-headed."

"Don't be fooled by his looks and tricks!"

Seeing her furious expression, Anna didn't know whether to laugh or feel touched.

One second she was saying he treated her well.

Her mood swings were astonishingly fast.

Anna gently patted her hand.

"Don't worry."

"There's no possibility between us."

"I'm very clear-headed."

"No!"

"You can't stay by his side any longer."

"Familiarity breeds affection is no joke."

"Especially since you two were once lovers!" Mia tried to pull her away.

Anna quickly stopped her.

"Mia, listen to me."

"We only have a professional relationship now."

"Nothing else will happen."

Mia finally calmed down a little.

She looked at Anna with half belief and half doubt.

"Swear it!"

"Okay, I swear."

Mia finally felt reassured.

Just then, their dishes began arriving at the table.

The two ate quietly.

As they ate, Mia suddenly looked up.

"Anna, where did you say the apartment was again?"
