Chapter 429
Adrian Sinclair's gaze swept past Chloe Valentine.
He walked directly into the living room.
The air froze for a moment.
Lydia Valentine immediately smiled to ease the tension. "Chloe is just too eager."
"Don't stand at the door. Come in and sit." Grandpa gave a slight nod to Henry.
Chloe pressed her lips together tightly.
She hated Adrian's cold demeanor the most.
He used to smile at her before.
But now...
She clenched her fingers, suppressing her dissatisfaction.
Everyone gradually entered the room.
Henry arranged for the servants to serve tea and snacks.
Harold Valentine took a sip of tea. His eyes lit up. "This tea has an elegant aroma with a long, sweet aftertaste."
"I've tasted many famous teas, but this quality is exceptional."
He took several more sips, savoring the flavor.
Grandpa stroked his beard and smiled. "Adrian brought this Da Hong Pao back from Wuyi Mountain recently."
"I love it too."
Adrian leaned back on the sofa.
His fingertips lightly tapped the armrest.
His eyes were downcast, revealing no emotion.
But Chloe noticed his distraction.
Lydia spoke up at the right moment. "Adrian is so filial. He always thinks of Grandpa."
They both looked at Adrian.
But he seemed unaware. His gaze was fixed outside the window.
The Valentines exchanged a glance.
They knew perfectly well.
The last incident had completely angered Adrian.
A man like him could only be worn down slowly.
Lydia secretly pinched her daughter, signaling her to stay calm.
Adrian suddenly stood up.
"Excuse me."
He gave a slight nod to everyone and turned to go upstairs.
Chloe instinctively wanted to follow.
Lydia grabbed her arm and shook her head gently.
Chloe bit her lip and sat back down. Her nails dug into her palms.
Lydia put down her teacup with a gentle smile. "Grandpa, you see how sincere Chloe is toward Adrian."
"The engagement party didn't happen last time. What do you think..."
She trailed off, carefully observing Grandpa's expression.
Grandpa was talking with Harold. He paused at her words.
He set down his teacup, frowning slightly.
This was indeed difficult.
They had already upset Adrian last time. Bringing it up again now...
The living room fell silent.
Lydia's face gradually paled.
In the past, Grandpa never hesitated when discussing the marriage.
"Mom."
Chloe suddenly spoke, her voice soft. "Adrian has been busy with company matters lately. You've seen it."
"I don't want to distract him with marriage plans."
Her eyes reddened slightly, glistening with tears. "I want to wait until he's finished. Until the day he willingly marries me."
Lydia hugged her daughter.
She suddenly remembered the figure at the airport. Anger flared in her heart.
"Chloe is sensible." Grandpa sighed softly. "You young people should spend more time together."
He had thought that after all this time, some feelings would have developed between them.
But now it seemed...
Chloe nodded obediently. But her gaze drifted toward the staircase.
Why wasn't he coming back down?
Her parents were right here.
