Chapter 481
Anna Ross felt a sudden tightness in her chest.
Why would Grandpa suddenly appear at the company?
This was too much of a coincidence.
She gave a slight nod.
"Where are they?"
Her voice sounded a bit dry.
Noah Watson pointed upstairs.
"The conference room."
He lowered his voice.
"What's going on with you today?"
"Leaving your post during work hours is a serious offense."
He remembered reminding her many times before.
Anna pressed her lips together.
"It was an emergency."
"I didn't have time to request leave."
"I'll accept any punishment."
Noah hesitated.
This time, a simple punishment might not be enough.
He silently led her to the conference room door.
He remained outside to wait.
Anna pushed the door open.
Grandpa sat at the head of the table with a dark expression.
Chloe Valentine stood beside him.
A look of triumph was evident in her eyes.
"Anna Ross?"
Grandpa's gaze swept over her.
His tone was icy.
Anna gave a slight nod.
It seemed Chloe had brought Grandpa here.
Grandpa tapped his cane heavily.
"Company policy states no unauthorized absences during work hours."
"You're a smart girl."
"You should know the consequences."
He sighed.
Thinking of his disappointing son.
For his grandson to come to his senses.
This girl had to go.
Chloe spoke softly.
"Grandpa."
"Executive Assistant Ross is usually very diligent."
"Adrian values her highly."
"Perhaps we can be lenient?"
She shot Anna a look.
Her eyes were full of schadenfreude.
Grandpa became even angrier.
"Rules are rules!"
"No exceptions!"
"Go pack your things now."
Anna kept her head down.
But she could feel two pairs of hostile eyes on her.
Chloe approached with feigned concern.
She tried to take Anna's hand.
"Executive Assistant Ross."
"I really want to help you."
"But..."
Anna avoided her touch.
"No need for your concern, Miss Valentine."
Grandpa watched this exchange.
His frown deepened.
This girl was utterly ungrateful.
The conference room door suddenly swung open.
Howard Lowell entered with trepidation.
Under his father's furious gaze.
He moved to stand beside Anna.
"Dad."
"What did Anna do wrong?"
He spoke while giving Anna a meaningful look.
Chloe felt a pang of anxiety.
What if Grandpa softened?
She needed to do something more.
Grandpa snorted coldly.
"Ask her yourself."
"Then take her out of the company."
Howard's heart sank.
His father's attitude was unusually firm this time.
Chloe breathed an inward sigh of relief.
It seemed no further action was needed.
