Chapter 374

At the top floor of Wanning Group.

Lucas Evans leaned back in his leather chair, fingertips lightly tapping the desk.

The office door opened.

A man in a black trench coat entered and placed a file folder on the desk.

"Mr. Evans, the items you requested."

Lucas turned around, a slight smile curling at the corner of his lips.

This detective, codenamed K, was someone he had worked with long-term.

K had extensive connections throughout New York and was extremely well-informed.

He pulled the documents from the folder and carefully reviewed them.

"Thank you for your hard work. Your payment will be processed as usual."

K gave a slight bow. "You're too kind, Mr. Evans. It's my honor to be of service to you."

Lucas waved his hand and pressed the intercom.

"Accounting, transfer the funds to Mr. K."

He always kept business and personal matters separate, and never shortchanged those who performed well.

K tactfully withdrew.

The office returned to silence.

Lucas turned page after page of the investigation report, his frown deepening.

He had long noticed Anna Ross's fear of Adrian Sinclair and had specifically looked into her family situation.

When he saw the documents detailing Howard Lowell's domestic abuse against Vivian Lowell, he clenched the papers tightly.

So that was it.

No wonder she always seemed so fragile, so cautious.

Lucas walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the entire city.

If he could help her escape the Lowell family's control, would she choose him?

He decided to find an opportunity to test her feelings.

Anna Ross sat in the taxi, sneezing several times in a row.

Her phone kept vibrating.

She opened the message. It was a photo sent by her mother.

In the photo, Vivian Lowell was holding Howard Lowell's arm, smiling radiantly.

Howard was also smiling, which was rare for him.

Yet Anna found that smile particularly grating.

She turned off her phone, her chest feeling tight.

They must have gone to the engagement party.

Thinking of Adrian Sinclair, her heart ached faintly.

He had clearly said he wouldn't get engaged.

But now everything was settled.

"Miss, are you alright?" The female driver, seeing her pale face in the rearview mirror, asked with concern.
