Chapter 300
Anna Ross's cheeks were flushed with an unnatural fever.
Her breathing grew rapid and shallow.
Sophia Roscente frantically scrolled through her phone contacts.
She thought of someone who could help.
The call was disconnected immediately after dialing.
Sophia stamped her foot in frustration.
She quickly typed out a text message and sent it.
Her phone vibrated instantly.
The person called back.
Sophia pursed her lips.
He hadn't answered her call earlier.
Now he was in a hurry.
Adrian Sinclair's voice was laced with urgency.
"What's wrong with her?"
The sound of an engine starting came through the receiver.
Sophia looked down at the person in her arms.
"Hurry, something's wrong with Anna," she urged.
The call ended.
Sophia fetched a damp towel and placed it on Anna's forehead.
The doorbell rang suddenly.
Sophia had just opened the door.
A figure brushed past her swiftly.
Anna was already scooped up into his arms.
The entire sequence happened with startling speed.
Sophia stood frozen for a moment.
Then a relieved smile touched her lips.
It seemed her cousin truly cared about her.
Adrian carried her quickly to his car.
He pressed a hand to her forehead.
The heat was alarming.
Anna murmured something in her delirium.
Adrian leaned closer to listen.
"Sorry..."
His brow furrowed with concern.
He drove straight to the hospital.
Anna's eyes fluttered open.
The first thing she saw was Adrian's back.
She was fully awake in an instant.
She tried to sit up but tugged on the IV line.
A sharp pain shot through the back of her hand.
She winced involuntarily.
Adrian turned at the sound.
He saw she was awake.
"Does it hurt?"
He arranged the takeout containers.
He handed her a fork and knife.
"How are you here?" Anna asked softly.
"Sophia told me you fainted."
She accepted the utensils.
She began eating quietly.
Adrian watched her in silence.
His tone held a note of reproach.
"You can't even take care of yourself properly."
Anna's cheeks flushed pink.
She focused on her meal without looking up.
The hospital room door opened.
Sophia and Marcus Hill entered together.
Seeing Adrian, Sophia immediately dropped Marcus's arm.
She hurried to the bedside.
She pressed a hand to Anna's forehead.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
"Are you feeling better, Anna?"
"Your forehead was so hot this morning."
Anna smiled weakly.
She hadn't expected to get so sick from getting caught in the rain.
Marcus walked over to Adrian.
He slung an arm over his friend's shoulder teasingly.
"Rare to see you skipping work hours."
"Seems someone is quite special."
