Chapter 229
Hearing Julian Garnache's name, Adrian Sinclair frowned.
He turned his head to look at Anna Ross.
His expression instantly darkened.
A flicker of displeasure flashed in his eyes.
He slammed on the accelerator.
Anna was thrown back against her seat without warning.
She gasped and gripped the seatbelt tightly.
Cars outside the window blurred past.
Her heart pounded wildly in her chest.
It felt like a crash was imminent.
Yet he always skillfully avoided them.
She couldn't respond to the person on the phone.
She turned to look at Adrian Sinclair.
She was about to ask what his problem was.
Then she met his furious gaze.
He was staring at the phone clutched in her hand.
She froze.
Understanding dawned immediately.
Julian was still talking on the phone.
She spoke calmly, "Julian, I'm busy right now. I have to go."
The moment she pressed the end call button.
The car's speed returned to normal.
Anna was about to speak.
Her phone rang again.
Adrian glanced at the caller ID.
Anna's breath hitched.
Her heart raced with panic.
She was about to hang up.
A low voice came from beside her, "Answer it."
"He's so persistent. Wouldn't you disappoint him if you didn't answer?"
Anna answered the call helplessly.
Before her finger could touch the screen.
Adrian drawled lazily, "Put it on speaker."
She had no choice but to comply.
Julian's urgent voice came through immediately, "Anna, are you okay? I heard a noise. Are you in a car?"
Anna quickly explained, "I'm fine. I'm in a car. I just bumped my head."
A soft chuckle came from beside her.
She fell silent for a few seconds.
The voice on the phone sighed in relief, "That's good. Where are you? I want to see you. Do you have time?"
"No time!" she answered immediately.
The other end fell silent.
Anna added nervously, "I have to go back to work. I don't have time to meet."
She stole a glance beside her.
His expression was normal again.
The weight in her chest finally lifted.
Before she could relax.
Another voice came from the phone.
Julian laughed casually, "It's fine. I'll wait for you to finish work."
"How about this? I'll wait for you at the bar where you work. You won't have to rush."
Anna was caught in a dilemma.
She was trapped.
Adrian cleared his throat softly.
His eyes held a warning.
It felt like he would devour her whole if she agreed.
Perhaps due to the lack of response.
Julian's voice softened, "Anna, it's settled then. I'll wait for you."
Anna still wanted to refuse.
But he had already hung up.
He gave her no chance to reject him.
She looked at Adrian Sinclair.
She said helplessly, "You heard him. This isn't something I can solve just by refusing."
"Your Julian really can't live without you. It seems he likes you a lot," Adrian said darkly.
Anna held her ears in frustration.
He acted like every man in the world was trying to steal her from him.
Seeing her action.
Adrian frowned in displeasure.
But he couldn't do anything to her while driving.
"Where do you need to go? I'll take you," his tone returned to normal.
It was no longer as aggressive as before.
