Chapter 455
Anna Ross nodded gently.
She replied softly, "Don't worry, Auntie. I will. I'll visit again when I have the chance."
Cecilia Roscente gazed at the gentle, lovely girl before her.
The more she looked, the more fondness grew in her heart.
If possible, she sincerely wished her nephew could spend his life with such a wonderful woman.
Anna had just reached the door.
She found the old man waiting quietly by the entrance, though she didn't know how long he had been there.
"Good day, Chairman," she greeted politely.
She was about to leave.
He raised his hand, blocking her path.
Just as she felt puzzled, the old man spoke in a low voice. "I know you were Adrian's first love."
Anna's heart tightened.
Her hand, hanging at her side, clenched quietly.
Had the old man investigated her, or had someone told him?
Various speculations flashed through her mind.
The old man continued, "I heard you were the one who left him back then."
"He was utterly despondent during that time."
"He was like a walking corpse."
These words were like fine, sharp needles.
They pierced her heart, one after another.
Anna frowned tightly.
She struggled to suppress the surging pain within.
Those past events, she had never forgotten.
Her own pain had never been any less.
"I don't care about the past."
"But now, no matter who Adrian chooses, it absolutely cannot be you."
"I hope you will consciously keep your distance." The old man's words were clear.
His exhaled breath formed white puffs in the cold air, dissipating quickly.
Anna was silent for a moment.
When she looked up again, her eyes held a distant coolness. "Chairman, I work at Lowell Group solely to make a living."
"I have no other inappropriate intentions."
She paused.
Her fingertips dug deeply into her palm.
She added, "Moreover, I sincerely wish Mr. Sinclair and Miss Valentine all the best."
"I hope they have a long and happy life together."
"I have matters to attend to. I must take my leave."
She lowered her head and quickly descended the steps.
The old man watched her retreating figure.
He let out a long sigh.
He could tell she was a good girl.
But this action was necessary.
Adrian absolutely must not be with her.
Not far away, a tall figure stood silently.
Sophia Roscente watched her cousin's lonely silhouette.
A faint ache spread in her chest.
If she had known this would happen, she wouldn't have followed.
Hearing these words must be painful for him.
But why was Grandpa acting this way?
Sophia fell into thought.
Anna hadn't done anything outrageous.
This was the first time she had seen her grandfather treat someone like this.
......
Anna felt exceptionally tired today.
She had returned from the bar late last night.
Her department had suddenly demanded she submit a report.
She had no choice but to stay up late working on it.
She kept checking her phone for the ride-hailing progress.
For some reason, it was particularly hard to get a car today.
Her ride request had been active for nearly twenty minutes with no drivers accepting.
Anna grew anxious.
Finally, a driver accepted the request.
But it was a shared ride.
After a moment's hesitation, she decided having a car was better than being late.
Otherwise, her salary would be docked again.
Soon, a car pulled over slowly.
Without paying much attention, she opened the door and got in.
She recited the last four digits of her phone number.
