Chapter 247
Anna Ross swallowed her words.
She quietly exited the office.
Dizziness washed over her outside the door.
How had things come to this?
Even if he hated her, he shouldn't have targeted those around her.
They had done nothing wrong.
Their only mistake was knowing her.
She leaned against the wall, stumbling unsteadily.
She rested at her desk for a long time before slowly recovering.
Adrian Sinclair gripped his cup tightly.
Veins bulged on the back of his hand.
The air around him turned icy cold.
His face darkened as he picked up his phone.
He dialed a number.
Noah Watson was organizing files.
He answered immediately upon seeing the caller. "What are your instructions, Mr. Sinclair?"
"Delay terminating the cooperation with Evans Corporation." His voice was soft but carried a biting chill.
Noah shuddered, guessing who had angered his boss again.
He didn't dare delay and responded immediately. "Yes, Mr. Sinclair."
Adrian threw his phone onto the desk.
He loosened his tie and leaned back on the sofa, closing his eyes.
He should have been ruthless.
But seeing her dejected expression still made his heart ache.
He let out a cold laugh.
He couldn't even understand himself anymore.
He looked toward the door.
They were only separated by a single door.
Yet it felt like an entire galaxy stood between them.
Anna stared angrily at her computer.
She typed then helplessly deleted.
She kept making mistakes after several attempts.
Her hands seemed out of control.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
She picked it up irritably.
It was a call from Mia Lawrence.
She answered. "What's up, Mia?"
Mia didn't notice her mood.
Her joyful voice came through. "Anna, I'm so happy today!"
"I just really missed you."
"I'll wait for you at the bar later."
"Let's have dinner together, okay?"
Anna tilted her head to hold the phone.
She typed frantically with busy hands. "Okay, I'll come straight after work."
Mia responded happily.
After hanging up, Anna took a deep breath.
She tried to stay calm.
She continued working.
She arrived at the bar after work.
Mia was already waiting.
She ran over excitedly upon seeing Anna.
She grabbed her hand. "Anna, let me tell you."
"I got promoted today!"
They sat down at the bar counter.
Mia knew she couldn't drink.
She ordered a drink for herself and started sipping.
Anna smiled understandingly.
She felt happy because her best friend was happy. "Congratulations, Mia."
She turned to the bartender. "Get me a drink."
Mia immediately stopped her. "Can't you drink?"
"Don't force yourself. I know you're happy for me."
"How can that be?"
"I'll just have a little." Anna smiled brightly.
She lightly clinked glasses and frowned after taking a sip.
Mia laughed. "Lightweight. Can't drink but still pushing yourself."
Anna sighed helplessly.
She really was a one-drink wonder.
"I'm in a good mood today."
"Dinner is on me." Mia took her glass away.
She wouldn't let her drink more.
Anna had no objections.
It was perfect for a proper celebration.
"I need to work first."
"We'll go after I finish singing."
