Chapter 454
She ate quietly with her head down.
She picked up a piece of vegetable with her fork and put it in her mouth.
The food was delicious.
But she found it hard to swallow.
When she looked up to get more food, she stole a glance at him.
A smile lingered at the corner of his mouth.
He seemed to be in a good mood these past two days.
After the meal, Sophia invited everyone to relax in the living room.
Anna Ross sat down on the sofa.
She picked up an apple and took a bite.
The crisp sound was especially clear in the quiet living room.
Adrian Sinclair sat across from her.
He took out his phone, seemingly replying to messages.
The screen's light reflected in his deep eyes.
His fingers moved quickly across the screen.
Sophia observed the two of them.
They could have sat together.
Yet they chose to sit opposite each other.
How would their relationship ever progress like this?
She was just about to say something.
Footsteps suddenly sounded at the entrance.
Anna and she turned to look at the same time.
Grandpa and Henry appeared in the living room.
Their eyes met.
The air instantly froze.
Sophia hurried forward to support the old man.
"Grandpa, why didn't you tell us you were coming?"
Grandpa's gaze fell on Anna.
His eyes held obvious displeasure.
There was even a hint of disgust.
Anna nodded slightly in greeting.
She knew the other party didn't like her.
She didn't want to invite trouble.
Grandpa sat down next to Adrian.
He heaved a heavy sigh.
Adrian spoke up first.
"Grandpa, why did you come over?"
Grandpa retorted.
"Can't I come?"
Sophia shrank her shoulders.
She tried to make herself less noticeable.
Grandpa continued his questioning.
"Weren't you supposed to accompany Chloe out?"
"How could you leave her alone?"
"I heard you went shopping instead."
The living room fell dead silent.
Anna recalled the scene at the mall.
A sense of unease rose within her.
Adrian responded calmly.
"I said I don't want to marry her."
"There's no need to cultivate feelings."
Grandpa became agitated instantly.
"Your marriage partner can only be Chloe!"
He started coughing violently.
Henry hurriedly handed him some pills.
Adrian didn't dare refute anymore.
Worry was written all over his face.
Anna felt she was superfluous.
She stood up, preparing to leave.
She walked into the kitchen to say goodbye to Cecilia Roscente.
Cecilia greatly regret.
"There's still so much we haven't had time to talk about."
Anna made an excuse about something coming up suddenly.
Cecilia didn't insist on her staying.
She gently exhort.
"When you're in New York, think of us as family."
"Come visit often."
