Chapter 89

Anna Ross nestled in her mother's embrace for a long time.

She suddenly remembered Howard Lowell mentioning issues at the branch company.

Yet she hadn't heard any rumors about it.

She couldn't help feeling puzzled.

She asked softly, "Mom, do you know what's happening at the company?"

Vivian Lowell shook her head.

"He never tells me anything. Especially not company matters."

Her tone carried self-mockery.

Anna realized she had asked the wrong person.

Since the fake pregnancy incident, Howard had shown no affection for her mother.

He was guarded everywhere.

How would he share such things with her?

She sighed. "It's nothing. I was just asking casually. Don't dwell on it, Mom."

Vivian nodded, then worriedly said, "What about you going to New York alone? I'm really concerned about you being there by yourself."

Anna suppressed her emotions.

She smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry. Since Adrian Sinclair is taking me, he'll arrange everything."

She didn't even believe her own words.

Vivian gently touched her face.

"Take good care of yourself," she said tenderly.

Anna's nose tingled with emotion.

She obediently agreed. "Wait for me, Mom. I'll find a way to take you away. We'll live well together. No more depending on others."

She must repay the debt quickly.

Only then could she move forward without worries.

Vivian nodded.

Neither mother nor daughter knew when that day would come.

But having hope was better than having none.

They held each other a while longer.

Anna reluctantly said, "Mom, it's getting late. I should go. Staying longer might mean running into Howard."

Vivian paused, then forced a smile as she patted Anna's head.

"Be careful on the road. Remember to let me know you've arrived safely in New York."

Anna nodded.

She gently kissed her mother's cheek. "Don't worry. I will."

She stood up to leave.

Vivian wanted to see her out, but Anna stopped her.

Though reluctant, this was something she had to do.

In the taxi, she checked her phone.

Adrian hadn't messaged yet.

Was he still handling unfinished business?

She decided to return to her rented apartment first.

The lease was paid for a year.

She still had the right to use it.

Sitting on the sofa, she called Mia Lawrence.

The call was answered instantly. "Anna, missing me already?"

Hearing her friend's voice, Anna relaxed.

She laughed. "Yes, I miss you. How are things there?"

Mia said freely, "Quite good. I feel very free now."

Free.

When would she ever experience such freedom?

Anna said wistfully, "Mia, I'm coming to New York too."

"What? You're coming? That's great!"

"But it's for work. With Adrian Sinclair."

At this, she let out a long sigh.
