Chapter 238

The person behind her remained silent.

He turned around.

He looked down at her with an intense gaze.

Anna Ross avoided his eyes.

His direct question caught her off guard.

She felt flustered.

She wasn't ready to discuss this with him.

"I don't know."

"Isn't he just visiting his father normally?"

She was lying.

She couldn't meet his eyes.

Her gaze drifted away.

Adrian Sinclair watched her subtle reactions.

He stepped closer.

His voice dropped to a low murmur.

"I know you're lying."

Anna bit her lip.

He already knew the answer before asking.

Someone as perceptive as him wouldn't be easily deceived.

"Tell me now."

"You can trust me."

"At least I'm more trustworthy than your so-called father."

Adrian spoke slowly.

His eyes scanned her face.

"Tell me everything you know."

"If you're in trouble."

"I'll help you."

His words were soft.

But they felt hypnotic to her ears.

Could she really tell him everything?

The words almost escaped her lips.

Anna clenched her fingers.

She glanced back toward the living room.

Two voices seemed to argue in her mind.

One urged her to tell the truth.

The other desperately held her back.

She looked up at him.

"Alright."

"I'll tell you."

A sharp glint flashed in his eyes.

He watched her intently.

"He wants to join the main company."

"This visit is probably to discuss it with Grandpa."

Anna pressed her lips together.

She fearfully grabbed his sleeve.

She whispered a plea.

"Can you not refuse him?"

"Let him join the main company, please?"

Adrian remained silent for a moment.

The air around him turned cold.

He answered with another question.

"If he joins the main company."

"Who will handle the mess he left in the branch?"

Anna had no response.

She slowly released his sleeve.

He turned and walked away.

Leaving her standing alone.

She stood there for a moment.

Then returned to her mother's side.

Howard Lowell rubbed his hands together.

He eagerly poured tea for the old man.

His voice full of expectation.

"Dad."

"There's something else I want to discuss."

The old man glanced at the tea.

But didn't touch it.

He simply asked.

"What is it?"

"Well."

"I've been in San Francisco for so long."

"It's hard to even see you."

"So I came back to discuss something."

"I want to stay in New York."

"To spend more time with you."

He adopted the respectful demeanor of a dutiful son.

But the old man didn't look pleased.

His expression darkened.

He coughed twice.

Then asked sternly.

"You want to return to New York?"

"Then tell me."

"How are things at the branch company?"

Howard's face instantly paled.

He signaled for Anna and her mother to leave.

Anna understood.

She took her mother's arm and excused themselves to the restroom.

After they left.

Howard moved closer to the old man.

Trying to soften his attitude.

"Dad."

"Things at the branch aren't that bad."

"Some people are just making a big deal out of nothing."

"Please don't worry about it."

After hearing this.

The old man felt a tightness in his chest.

It took him a moment to recover.

He looked at his son with disappointment.

He shouted angrily.

"I sent you to the branch to train you."

"But look at you."

"You've made a complete mess of things."
