Chapter 396

Adrian Sinclair laughed at her changing expression.

"You didn't think I was taking you to elope, did you?"

"Don't flatter yourself!" Anna Ross's ears burned.

She turned away, refusing to look at him.

Adrian's playful mood faded.

His tone turned serious.

"This trip is for a Cross-border cooperation case."

"The project is vital to the company's future strategy."

Anna felt slightly relieved, but still confused.

"There are many capable people at the company. Why choose me?"

His fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel.

"You're my Executive Assistant. It's only natural you come along."

Anna remembered their past disagreements.

She reminded him calmly, "Someone specifically said I wasn't his assistant anymore."

Adrian's eyes darkened. His voice turned firm.

"I'm the boss. What I say goes."

Anna didn't argue further. She turned to look out the window.

The car came to a stop. As she moved to exit, Adrian stopped her.

"Get some proper rest. I'll send the documents later."

"I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

Anna closed the car door gently.

She watched the car drive away.

Back home, she packed a simple suitcase.

Then she collapsed into bed.

She hadn't slept well at all during her hospital stay.

The ringing phone woke her in the evening.

Mia Lawrence's anxious voice came through.

"Anna! I heard you were injured and hospitalized!?"

Anna rubbed her eyes and sat up.

"I'm already discharged. Don't worry."

A knock sounded at her door immediately after.

Mia rushed in and began inspecting her.

Her eyes welled up at the sight of the bandage on Anna's neck.

"How did this happen!?" Her voice trembled.

Anna patted her hand reassuringly.

"It's fine. They used the best medicine. It won't scar."

Mia clenched her fists.

"Tell me. Who did this to you?"

Anna lowered her gaze.

She spoke softly.

"It was an accident."
