Chapter 167

Anna Ross felt uneasy whenever she saw Chloe Valentine now.

It was guilt, really.

She didn't know how to face Chloe.

She just hoped all this would end soon.

Then she could take her mother and leave this place.

Anna shook her head firmly, forcing herself to focus.

She threw herself back into her work.

The office was a cacophony of keyboard clicks, phone rings, and murmured conversations.

She was unusually absorbed today.

She even lost track of time, forgetting it was the end of the workday.

A colleague from the next desk tapped her gently.

"Still here? Working overtime?"

Anna snapped back to reality.

She looked up at the clock. She was already half an hour late.

She smiled quickly. "No, I just lost track of time. Thanks."

The colleague waved dismissively. "No problem. Whoever loves overtime can stay. I'm out of here!"

"Bye."

Anna watched as her colleagues left one after another.

She quickly packed her things.

Her gaze fell on the documents on her desk.

She remembered Chloe's instructions from this morning.

She opened her drawer and carefully put them away.

Then she turned off the lights and left.

Just outside the company's main entrance.

She spotted Adrian Sinclair leaning against his car.

Anna's breath hitched.

Why was he here again?

She instinctively turned to take a detour.

But Adrian had already seen her.

"Anna Ross."

His voice was quiet, yet it carried an undeniable force.

Her feet froze on the spot.

She listened as his footsteps drew closer.

Adrian stepped directly in front of her.

His shadow completely enveloped her.

Anna had to look up.

She forced a smile. "Mr. Sinclair, is there something you need?"

She quickly added, "It's after work hours. I have some personal matters..."

She tried to sidestep him and slip away.

Adrian didn't move. He spoke calmly.

"Poor memory, Executive Assistant Ross? The branch company matter. The evidence is still with me."

She stiffened instantly.

Unable to take another step.

Anna slowly turned back to face him.

Her expression blank. "I haven't forgotten. What do you need, Mr. Sinclair?"

Adrian raised an eyebrow, studying her.

"Is that your attitude? Not very sincere."

He tapped his finger lightly, his gaze darkening.

Anna gritted her teeth secretly.

She forced another obedient smile.

"I understand. What would you like me to do, Mr. Sinclair?"

Adrian thought for a moment.

A slight smile touched his lips. "Have dinner with me."

Anna was stunned.

That was it?

But she immediately remembered she had to work at the bar tonight.

There simply wasn't enough time.
