Chapter 0083

โ€œGo on,โ€ I whisper softly. โ€œIt might help.โ€

Theodore reads to her. I watch for any reaction, any sign she hears him. Thereโ€™s only the slightest twitch of her fingers now and then. But it seems to calm her. Her mind feels less chaotic.

Footsteps pound down the hallway, rushing toward us. Theodore and I shift quickly to the foot of Athenaโ€™s bed, shielding her just as Caleb bursts through the door.

โ€œIs she alright? Tell me sheโ€™s okay!โ€

I step aside so he can see her.

โ€œWho did this? Was it that blonde witch?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Theodore answers when I canโ€™t form the words. Calebโ€™s reaction is fierce, much like how I would defend my own sister.

โ€œAlexander will end her!โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re late. Alexander already had her executed,โ€ Theodore informs him.

Caleb moves past me to Athenaโ€™s side, taking her hand gently. โ€œWhy wonโ€™t she wake up?โ€

โ€œWe donโ€™t know,โ€ Theodore murmurs, his eyes flicking to me. โ€œShe received the antidote. All her vitals are stable. I believe after years of trauma, her mind has shut down temporarily to heal.โ€

โ€œWhereโ€™s Sebastian?โ€ I ask quietly.

โ€œHe went to check on his men. Todayโ€ฆ changed his perspective.โ€

I narrow my eyes. โ€œWhy didnโ€™t he answer my link?โ€

โ€œWe ran into some trouble.โ€

โ€œIn the city?โ€

โ€œSeems you were right. Heโ€™s creating more Lycans. They were waiting for us.โ€

As the light shifts, I notice dried blood smudged on his skin that wasnโ€™t properly cleaned.

None of my contacts reported any issues.

โ€œWhere in the city?โ€

โ€œSebastian called it Riverside. Down by the river. We were ambushed. We took down as many as we could. No trace of Dominic or Victoria.โ€

โ€œYou couldnโ€™t sense them?โ€ Theodore asks.

โ€œYes and no.โ€

โ€œWhat does that mean?โ€

โ€œIt means Dominic is the one turning them, binding them to himself. He knows what heโ€™s doing. Heโ€™s making it hard for me to pinpoint him in a crowded area. I never thought the fool was clever. Makes me think this is Victoriaโ€™s plan too.โ€

He leans close to Athena.

โ€œWake up. Youโ€™re safe now. Youโ€™re protected. You are loved.โ€

Still, nothing. If not for her steady heartbeat, sheโ€™d seem gone.

When Theodore leaves, Caleb takes the empty seat across from me. He holds her left hand while I hold her right.

Unlike the others, he doesnโ€™t tell me to leave or rest. He sits in silence, which is unusual for him. Heโ€™s playing the devoted brother well, but Titan still doesnโ€™t trust him.

Hours after sunrise, Isabella returns, checking all of Athenaโ€™s vitals again. โ€œI donโ€™t understand,โ€ she murmurs.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ Caleb demands.

โ€œThatโ€™s just it. Nothingโ€™s wrong. She should be awake.โ€

โ€œAre you sure you didnโ€™t miss anything?โ€

She frowns at him and turns a monitor around, pointing at the readings. โ€œHeartbeat is strong. Oxygen levels are excellent. Blood pressure is perfect.โ€

Isabella leans over Athena, shining a small light into her eyes. โ€œPupils are reactive.โ€

โ€œIsabella?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing more I can do, Alexander. She just needs time.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what I was going to ask. Who was the Witch you saw?โ€

โ€œFor the antidote? My usual source. Madame Zora.โ€

โ€œMadame Zora?โ€

โ€œYes. She was very helpful,โ€ Isabella smiles. โ€œTold me it wouldnโ€™t be easy to make, but it was possible.โ€

โ€œMadame Zora is the one who bound Athena originally. Why would she help?โ€

โ€œI never said it was for Athena. I asked if it was possible. I told her it was for the packโ€™s safety, and she agreed.โ€

โ€œShe agreed?โ€

โ€œYes. Just like that.โ€
