Chapter 0083
โGo on,โ I whisper softly. โIt might help.โ
Theodore reads to her. I watch for any reaction, any sign she hears him. Thereโs only the slightest twitch of her fingers now and then. But it seems to calm her. Her mind feels less chaotic.
Footsteps pound down the hallway, rushing toward us. Theodore and I shift quickly to the foot of Athenaโs bed, shielding her just as Caleb bursts through the door.
โIs she alright? Tell me sheโs okay!โ
I step aside so he can see her.
โWho did this? Was it that blonde witch?โ
โYes,โ Theodore answers when I canโt form the words. Calebโs reaction is fierce, much like how I would defend my own sister.
โAlexander will end her!โ
โYouโre late. Alexander already had her executed,โ Theodore informs him.
Caleb moves past me to Athenaโs side, taking her hand gently. โWhy wonโt she wake up?โ
โWe donโt know,โ Theodore murmurs, his eyes flicking to me. โShe received the antidote. All her vitals are stable. I believe after years of trauma, her mind has shut down temporarily to heal.โ
โWhereโs Sebastian?โ I ask quietly.
โHe went to check on his men. Todayโฆ changed his perspective.โ
I narrow my eyes. โWhy didnโt he answer my link?โ
โWe ran into some trouble.โ
โIn the city?โ
โSeems you were right. Heโs creating more Lycans. They were waiting for us.โ
As the light shifts, I notice dried blood smudged on his skin that wasnโt properly cleaned.
None of my contacts reported any issues.
โWhere in the city?โ
โSebastian called it Riverside. Down by the river. We were ambushed. We took down as many as we could. No trace of Dominic or Victoria.โ
โYou couldnโt sense them?โ Theodore asks.
โYes and no.โ
โWhat does that mean?โ
โIt means Dominic is the one turning them, binding them to himself. He knows what heโs doing. Heโs making it hard for me to pinpoint him in a crowded area. I never thought the fool was clever. Makes me think this is Victoriaโs plan too.โ
He leans close to Athena.
โWake up. Youโre safe now. Youโre protected. You are loved.โ
Still, nothing. If not for her steady heartbeat, sheโd seem gone.
When Theodore leaves, Caleb takes the empty seat across from me. He holds her left hand while I hold her right.
Unlike the others, he doesnโt tell me to leave or rest. He sits in silence, which is unusual for him. Heโs playing the devoted brother well, but Titan still doesnโt trust him.
Hours after sunrise, Isabella returns, checking all of Athenaโs vitals again. โI donโt understand,โ she murmurs.
โWhatโs wrong?โ Caleb demands.
โThatโs just it. Nothingโs wrong. She should be awake.โ
โAre you sure you didnโt miss anything?โ
She frowns at him and turns a monitor around, pointing at the readings. โHeartbeat is strong. Oxygen levels are excellent. Blood pressure is perfect.โ
Isabella leans over Athena, shining a small light into her eyes. โPupils are reactive.โ
โIsabella?โ
โThereโs nothing more I can do, Alexander. She just needs time.โ
โThatโs not what I was going to ask. Who was the Witch you saw?โ
โFor the antidote? My usual source. Madame Zora.โ
โMadame Zora?โ
โYes. She was very helpful,โ Isabella smiles. โTold me it wouldnโt be easy to make, but it was possible.โ
โMadame Zora is the one who bound Athena originally. Why would she help?โ
โI never said it was for Athena. I asked if it was possible. I told her it was for the packโs safety, and she agreed.โ
โShe agreed?โ
โYes. Just like that.โ
