Chapter 0139
โTell me where he is!โ Ethan demanded sharply.
Alexanderโs distinct woody scent filled the air just as he spoke. โIโm right here. And I suggest you release my mate.โ
Hearing his voice sent overwhelming relief through me. He was home.
Ethan dropped me instantly, whirling to face Alexander. Julian stood tall beside him, along with Sophia. And then there was Briannaโthe girl who had nearly beaten me to death.
โYou murdered my brother!โ Ethan shrieked.
โNo, I didnโt,โ Alexander replied calmly, shrugging.
โI felt him die! Donโt lie to me.โ
โYet it wasnโt me. It was a Lycan.โ Alexanderโs tone remained steady, though I sensed his irritation.
โDonโt bullshit me!โ Ethan yelled, grabbing me and yanking me back against him. His hand closed around my throat, squeezing tightly.
I stared at Alexander, struggling for air.
The music cut off abruptly. All eyes were on us.
โIt wasnโt Alexander,โ Brianna said, stepping forward with her hands raised. โThere are Lycans who crave flesh. It was them.โ
โBullshit!โ Ethan tightened his grip. โTheyโre all dead.โ
โDo you really believe that? I understand Dark Ridge was your brotherโs pack, correct? Just before that territory, thereโs a town claimed by Rogue Lycans. Your brother passed through with one of our kind as his prisoner.โ She gestured toward Sophia. โHe was never leaving that town alive.โ
Her brown eyes locked on mine as Ethanโs hold restricted my breathing. My vision began to darken. She was the last person I wanted to see.
โSo you killed him?โ Ethan growled.
โNo.โ
โNyx,โ I whispered inwardly, gasping for air.
โWhat about the pups?โ she whispered back.
โThere will be no pups if Iโm dead. Just the claws.โ
Excruciating pain tore through my body. I felt my claws extending from my fingertips as Brianna continued speaking.
Reaching behind me, I drove my claws deep into Ethanโs stomach.
He cried out in pain, releasing my throat immediately.
My feet hit the ground. I tried to run but stumbled, falling face-first into the dirt.
โGET UP!โ Nyx screamed inside my head.
I couldnโt move.
โATHENA, GET THE FUCK UP NOW!โ she yelled again.
Shouts erupted around me. Warm hands slipped under my shoulders, helping me to my feet.
Briannaโs face came back into view.
โI know,โ she muttered. โIโm the last person you expected to see.โ
I was speechless. I had rehearsed this conversation countless times since learning she was coming. So much anger. So many words. Yet now, staring at her, nothing came out.
All my confidence vanished.
โYou need to move,โ Brianna urged.
โIโll take it from here.โ Isabella appeared at my side, looping her arm through mine and glaring at Brianna.
โI was only trying to help!โ Brianna frowned.
โLetโs go,โ Isabella said, steering me away from the crowd and the woman who had almost killed me once.
โEthan,โ I muttered once we were away from the party.
โAlexander is handling it,โ Isabella snapped. She seemed annoyed, but not about the attack. Something else was bothering her.
She began inspecting my neck, though we both knew it had already healed.
โAre you okay?โ I asked softly.
โYes!โ she snapped again, avoiding my gaze. โYou shouldnโt have shifted.โ
โIt was just my claws,โ I grumbled. Studying her face, I knew something was wrong. โWhatโs going on?โ
She sighed, turning her back to me. โThis is going to sound insane.โ
โInsane like a pack man targeting my twins?โ
โThe woman with Alexanderโฆโ
โBrianna?โ I spat the name.
She nodded. โShe carries someone elseโs scent.โ
โOkay.โ
โMy mateโs.โ
โGabriel?โ I asked, confused.
She shook her head, frowning deeply. โMy new mate.โ
