Chapter 0260

โ€œWhatโ€™s your take on this?โ€ She wouldnโ€™t be the first unwillingly marked.

Brianna just shrugs.

โ€œWeโ€™re handling it. Either way, I know itโ€™s not my place to ask.

But justโ€ฆ hold off on killing Julian for a bit. Let me figure things out. If I canโ€™t find anything, do what you must.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re right. It isnโ€™t your place.โ€ Truth is, I didnโ€™t want him dead either.

โ€œForty-eight hours, Brianna. Thatโ€™s all you get.โ€

โ€œForty-eight hours,โ€ she repeats, turning toward the door.

โ€œGive my regards to Sebastian.โ€

She spins back, eyes wide. โ€œI didnโ€™t say a word.โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t have to. He was supposed to be at your rescue. Turns out heโ€™d already left the pack.

Thank the moon he wasnโ€™t off buying more liquor.โ€

โ€œI told you I wouldnโ€™t talk.โ€ Her words come out rushed.

โ€œAnd you didnโ€™t. Just answer me thisโ€”is he still drinking?โ€

She shakes her head.

โ€œGood. Forty-eight hours,โ€ I mutter.

She hurries out.

I sigh, swiveling my chair toward the window.

How did it come to this with Julian?

Father wouldโ€™ve been furious.

I feel like Iโ€™ve failed him.

Failed my parents.

Julian and Isabella were raised the same.

Same rules, same expectations.

Isabella followed them. He never did.

Always causing trouble.

But this timeโ€ฆ this time he went too far.

He might have cost me my family.

Athena slips into the office.

Her scent washes over me, erasing all others.

She stays quiet. Waiting. Sensing my rage.

โ€œYou heard everything?โ€

โ€œI was on the stairs. Zachary and Isabella are arguing. Brianna ran outโ€”didnโ€™t even see me.โ€

She pauses. Her heartbeat is barely audible.

โ€œForty-eight hours isnโ€™t long, Alexander. You gave me more time.โ€

โ€œYou were terrified. You needed to adjust. You werenโ€™t plotting to kill us.โ€

She moves in front of me, blocking the window, and settles on my lap.

Her arms wrap around my waist. She rests her head on my chest.

โ€œYou know your brother better than anyone. Heโ€™s stood by you in wars. Helped you secure alliances.

Brianna said somethingโ€™s off. Did he really give you nothing during interrogation?โ€

โ€œAll he mentioned was me bringing the Lycans here.

I canโ€™t force answersโ€”Iโ€™m not his Alpha anymore.

Iโ€™ll give Brianna the forty-eight hours. Then I decide.โ€

She nods slowly. โ€œAnd if Seraphina shows up?โ€

โ€œSeraphina can be killed. Honestly, Iโ€™m surprised she hasnโ€™t appeared yet.

Itโ€™s been days. No reports from the guards.โ€

โ€œLike Isabella saysโ€”no news is good news.โ€

โ€œUsually, yes. But not when weโ€™re waiting for her to attack. Where are the boys?โ€

โ€œAsleep. Itโ€™s late.โ€ She gestures toward the dark sky.

โ€œStay here. I need to question my brother again.โ€

She nods and slides off.

I leave her in the office and head back to the dungeon.

Julian is in wolf form.

Lying on his side, struggling to breathe.

Brianna was right. Heโ€™s trying to kill his wolf spirit.

โ€œLook at me,โ€ I command.

He doesnโ€™t move.

โ€œLook at me, Julian!โ€

His body begins shifting back.

Itโ€™s slow. Agonizing. As if itโ€™s draining his last ounce of strength.

A bloodcurdling scream tears from him as his spine snaps into place.

He collapses on the floor. Panting. Screaming with every breaking bone.

Iโ€™ve inflicted pain. Delivered cruel punishments.

But this is horrific. And itโ€™s not even by my hand.

โ€œSheโ€™s coming,โ€ he mutters before passing out.
