Chapter 0108
My gaze darted to the wall clock. โWhat if they attack within hours?โ
He followed my line of sight. โTheyโd be idiots to strike now. You did exactly as I said. If they have any intel, they wonโt risk hitting us when everyoneโs alert and rested.โ
โI have to talk to her first,โ I muttered. Athena was a terrible liar. If I saw through it, Dominic or Victoria definitely would.
โListen. If you want her safe and out of whateverโs coming, this is the only way.โ He watched me rise. โIf you see my twin, send her in?โ
I rolled my eyes. โShe wonโt release you until youโre fully healed.โ
โA Wolfโs gotta try.โ
Outside, Isabella and Athena were deep in conversation on a small bench. They fell silent as I approached. โHe wants to see you,โ I told Isabella.
โAlready said no. I know himโheโll just run straight back out.โ She shook her head and stormed inside, ready to lay down the law with Julian.
Athena stayed quiet. She picked nervously at the wooden bench, avoiding my eyes.
โYouโre doing it again,โ I murmured, taking Isabellaโs vacated seat.
โIsabella told me.โ
โDid she now? She certainly has a habit of that.โ I frowned. She hadnโt been inside when Julian and I discussed the plan. โWhat exactly did she say?โ
โThat Iโd be in the forestโโ
โNo.โ I cut her off and pulled her against me. โNot happening. But Julian had another idea. I need to know if youโre okay with it.โ
She tilted her head. Moonlight glinted in her blue eyes, reminding me of a crystal-clear lake my father took us to once. That was the last time I saw him and my stepmother.
โNot here.โ I had no idea how sheโd react. I didnโt want an audience.
โShe wonโt agree,โ Titan mumbled.
โI have to try.โ
We headed back to the house, barely acknowledging anyone around us.
She took her usual spot in the office, drawing her knees to her chest. Messy dark hair fell around her face. She quickly tucked it behind her ears.
Her eyes widened as I laid out Julianโs idea. By the time I finished, she blinked several times, staring at me like Iโd lost my mind.
โYouโฆwant to put your pup in me? I thought we agreed to wait a year?โ
โThat was the contract you wanted. Weโre way past that now.โ I raised a brow, amused, but she didnโt see it that way.
She snorted, blinking again. Her blue eyes steadily darkened. Nyx was close to the surface.
โI canโt,โ she muttered, keeping her gaze low. โIโm not ready. Iโm twenty-two. The only places Iโve ever been are here, Silver Creek, and the cityโand I only went there once. I still canโt read properly. I definitely canโt write. What kind of mother would that make me?โ She shook her head. โIโm sorry. I canโt.โ
โThen youโll have to lie.โ I kept my focus on her, trying to read her reaction.
โHuh? I canโt lie about something like that.โ Her eyes met mine, scowling deeply.
When I didnโt respond, she leaned back, tilting her head over the rest. Her eyes fixed on the ceiling. โHe thinks itโs the only other way?โ
โYes. Other packs that owe me will join the cause.โ
โBecause theyโll think Iโm carrying your heir.โ
I nodded.
โI canโt make a decision like that, AlphaโฆAlexander.โ
โTold you,โ Titan mused. He loved being right.
โLook at me,โ I ordered. Her face slowly turned to mine. โThis way, you live.โ
