Chapter 0108

My gaze darted to the wall clock. โ€œWhat if they attack within hours?โ€

He followed my line of sight. โ€œTheyโ€™d be idiots to strike now. You did exactly as I said. If they have any intel, they wonโ€™t risk hitting us when everyoneโ€™s alert and rested.โ€

โ€œI have to talk to her first,โ€ I muttered. Athena was a terrible liar. If I saw through it, Dominic or Victoria definitely would.

โ€œListen. If you want her safe and out of whateverโ€™s coming, this is the only way.โ€ He watched me rise. โ€œIf you see my twin, send her in?โ€

I rolled my eyes. โ€œShe wonโ€™t release you until youโ€™re fully healed.โ€

โ€œA Wolfโ€™s gotta try.โ€

Outside, Isabella and Athena were deep in conversation on a small bench. They fell silent as I approached. โ€œHe wants to see you,โ€ I told Isabella.

โ€œAlready said no. I know himโ€”heโ€™ll just run straight back out.โ€ She shook her head and stormed inside, ready to lay down the law with Julian.

Athena stayed quiet. She picked nervously at the wooden bench, avoiding my eyes.

โ€œYouโ€™re doing it again,โ€ I murmured, taking Isabellaโ€™s vacated seat.

โ€œIsabella told me.โ€

โ€œDid she now? She certainly has a habit of that.โ€ I frowned. She hadnโ€™t been inside when Julian and I discussed the plan. โ€œWhat exactly did she say?โ€

โ€œThat Iโ€™d be in the forestโ€”โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ I cut her off and pulled her against me. โ€œNot happening. But Julian had another idea. I need to know if youโ€™re okay with it.โ€

She tilted her head. Moonlight glinted in her blue eyes, reminding me of a crystal-clear lake my father took us to once. That was the last time I saw him and my stepmother.

โ€œNot here.โ€ I had no idea how sheโ€™d react. I didnโ€™t want an audience.

โ€˜She wonโ€™t agree,โ€™ Titan mumbled.

โ€˜I have to try.โ€™

We headed back to the house, barely acknowledging anyone around us.

She took her usual spot in the office, drawing her knees to her chest. Messy dark hair fell around her face. She quickly tucked it behind her ears.

Her eyes widened as I laid out Julianโ€™s idea. By the time I finished, she blinked several times, staring at me like Iโ€™d lost my mind.

โ€œYouโ€ฆwant to put your pup in me? I thought we agreed to wait a year?โ€

โ€œThat was the contract you wanted. Weโ€™re way past that now.โ€ I raised a brow, amused, but she didnโ€™t see it that way.

She snorted, blinking again. Her blue eyes steadily darkened. Nyx was close to the surface.

โ€œI canโ€™t,โ€ she muttered, keeping her gaze low. โ€œIโ€™m not ready. Iโ€™m twenty-two. The only places Iโ€™ve ever been are here, Silver Creek, and the cityโ€”and I only went there once. I still canโ€™t read properly. I definitely canโ€™t write. What kind of mother would that make me?โ€ She shook her head. โ€œIโ€™m sorry. I canโ€™t.โ€

โ€œThen youโ€™ll have to lie.โ€ I kept my focus on her, trying to read her reaction.

โ€œHuh? I canโ€™t lie about something like that.โ€ Her eyes met mine, scowling deeply.

When I didnโ€™t respond, she leaned back, tilting her head over the rest. Her eyes fixed on the ceiling. โ€œHe thinks itโ€™s the only other way?โ€

โ€œYes. Other packs that owe me will join the cause.โ€

โ€œBecause theyโ€™ll think Iโ€™m carrying your heir.โ€

I nodded.

โ€œI canโ€™t make a decision like that, Alphaโ€ฆAlexander.โ€

โ€˜Told you,โ€™ Titan mused. He loved being right.

โ€œLook at me,โ€ I ordered. Her face slowly turned to mine. โ€œThis way, you live.โ€
