Chapter 0362

Alexander

โ€œThatโ€™s the smarter move.โ€ Luc nods, running a hand through his dark, unruly curls. โ€œAthenaโ€™s right. If others are part of this, theyโ€™ll expect her to return looking broken. Or not return at all.โ€

Brianna bounces Logan on her knee, her expression thoughtful. โ€œAnd you donโ€™t want Theodore informed? Why?โ€

โ€œI respect everything Theodore has done for this pack and for Athena,โ€ I say, holding my mateโ€™s gaze. โ€œBut Iโ€™m concerned his thirst for knowledge could be used against him. Heโ€™s too open with information. That might lead him into danger. Only the people in this room need to know whatโ€™s happening.โ€

Everyone nods in agreement except Athena. Her blue eyes remain locked on mine, lips pressed tightly together. She senses thereโ€™s more to my reasoning but chooses to stay silent.

Zachary shifts forward. โ€œAny sign of Hannah?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Athena sighs, gently rocking Evrin in her arms.

โ€œAnd you didnโ€™t kill Seraphina?โ€ he presses.

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œShe was terrified,โ€ Luc adds quietly.

Sebastian looks at Athena, confused. โ€œYou were scared?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Luc clarifies with a faint smile. โ€œSeraphina was.โ€

โ€œAfter everything sheโ€™s done, she should be,โ€ Zachary says, frowning at Luc. โ€œI thought you, of all people, would have ended her.โ€

I watch Luc glance toward Athena. She had stopped him, though I havenโ€™t had the chance to ask why.

'Perhaps because Seraphina has lost her abilities,' Titan murmurs. 'Athena may no longer see her as a threat.'

โ€œThere were no others in the area. Sebastian and I swept the perimeter,โ€ Luc informs the group. โ€œNo additional tracks. Just those three.โ€

โ€œBut there were no scents, either,โ€ Athena adds. โ€œThere could have been more. We just didnโ€™t detect them.โ€

โ€œSo theyโ€™ve found a way to mask their scent completely? How?โ€ Zachary asks.

โ€œI suspect Levi is behind it,โ€ Athena explains. โ€œHe stripped Seraphina and Evelyn of their Lycan abilities without a binding. According to Evelyn, heโ€™s done the same to othersโ€”men and women, Wolves and Lycans. He doesnโ€™t discriminate.โ€

Brianna looks concerned. โ€œBut Hannah? She hasnโ€™t done anything wrong. She has her struggles, but who doesnโ€™t? How does she fit into all this?โ€

โ€œLevi didnโ€™t like seeing us together,โ€ Luc says, his voice low. โ€œI was going to kill him. Hannah stopped me. She said she would talk to him. She should have let me pull the trigger.โ€

โ€œYou couldnโ€™t have known he would do this,โ€ Brianna murmurs.

โ€œI should have trusted my instincts, butโ€ฆโ€ He doesnโ€™t finish. Weโ€™ve all been there. So consumed by our mates that rational thought sometimes escapes us. A few seconds can change everything.

Zachary redirects the conversation. โ€œAny issues with the deceased Wolves?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not entirely true,โ€ Sebastian mutters. He looks at me. โ€œA couple years back. Derek was one of the members questioning your decision to let Athena stay, right after you revealed she was a Lycan. Remember? He tried to stir up the pack, but it didnโ€™t work.โ€

โ€œWhy wait this long to act?โ€ Athena asks. โ€œWhy wait until there are more Lycans here? Why wait at all?โ€

โ€œBecause heโ€™s a fool!โ€ Luc snaps, cleaning his gun. โ€œHe just needed someone to validate his grievances. My guess is Levi did exactly that. And now those three are dead. They got what they deserved.โ€

โ€œPut that away!โ€ I command sharply. Luc rolls his eyes but tucks the gun into his belt.

โ€œWhat about the others? Any past issues with them?โ€ Zachary asks Sebastian.

โ€œNo. In fact, they always performed their duties. Never caused any trouble. Julian didnโ€™t wrong them. They were always proud to be part of Obsidian Howl.โ€ He turns to me. โ€œJust like the rest of us. We could be facing multiple threats, Alexander, or this could be the work of one rogue Lycan. We simply donโ€™t know.โ€

โ€œCan you tell?โ€ Athena asks Luc.

โ€œPossibly.โ€

โ€œI need a better answer than that,โ€ she snaps.

โ€œIโ€™ll see what I can do.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t kill any of them without speaking to me first,โ€ I order as he heads for the door.
