Chapter 0470
Theodore
"Pathetic!" Evelyn scoffs from the floor. "I am not pathetic!"
"I believed this was your desire." I keep my voice steady. "I thought you wished for her return."
"I desired you more." Levi turns away and enters the cabin. I help Evelyn stand and we follow him inside.
"You had no intention of intervening, did you?" Evelyn demands. "You were content to abandon me there like some rabid animal!"
"You fulfilled your purpose. I'm pursuing superior options now." He settles on the sofa, completely unfazed by our presence.
"Explain yourself." I speak before Evelyn can unleash another tirade.
"All will be revealed in time."
"For once in your miserable existence, speak plainly!" I snap. "You know I detest your riddles and evasive language."
He glares at his sister. "She has become useless to me. So I replaced her with someone actually willing to do what's necessary."
"Who?"
He smiles at me, his sage green eyes gleaming with amusement.
"If you're implying it's me, you're mistaken. I won't tear apart a pack for you." I tell him firmly. "I refuse to destroy the greatest thing I've ever known."
"Relax, Theodore. You would never commit such an act. That's precisely why it isn't you."
"Then who?"
"He's already destroyed the packhouse." He speaks with a sinister smile. "Tell me, who was injured? Your precious Alpha? His sons? The female Alpha? I've been anticipating news ever since I saw the smoke."
"You were nearby when it happened?" I ask.
"One of many locations I've visited recently." He runs a hand through his blonde hair, brushing it back from his face.
If he had been nearby, even just projecting himself, why hadn't he met Alexander as promised?
"Why are you doing this?" Evelyn asks.
"Because dear sister, there are far too many people who believe they know better."
I snort derisively. It was the same manipulative rhetoric he had tried to force on me. The man was completely delusional.
"So who was killed or injured? Do tell." He waits with eager anticipation.
"No one."
"What do you mean?"
"The house was empty, Levi. Not a single soul was inside. All you accomplished was strengthening their unity as the pack rallied to extinguish the fire."
"He told me..."
"You mean a child deceived you?" I knew Athena preferred we didn't discuss Alexander, but Levi had already brought it up. "Damn little brat. Just when I thought I could reach another child."
"Another child?"
"Me." Evelyn whispers. "He's referring to me. After our brother died, I was the first." Her head snaps toward him, pure rage burning in her eyes. "You weakened me. You fed me lies that made me believe you were righteous."
"And you were foolish enough to believe every word!" He tells her coldly.
"What you've done is monstrous! None of us deserved this. None of us. Do you even comprehend that? You made me believe the Moon Goddess sent you for a purpose. You claimed all those people were being punished by her. That you were merely her messenger. Is that what you told the boy?"
He opens his mouth to retaliate. But Evelyn continues her furious rant.
"You're worse than evil. You deserve to lose everything. You stole people's abilities. You took mine, promising it was for my protection." She shakes her head in disgust. "You made me believe I was doing right. You shielded me from my true self. I lost my friend because of you. I lost everything because of you."
She lunges forward and grabs him, yanking him from the sofa. His eyes widen in shock at her sudden aggression. He wrestles against her, fighting for dominance as she pins him to the floor. Locking her hands on his jacket shoulders, she repeatedly smashes his head against the carpet while screaming accusations.
I notice how completely black her eyes have become. They resemble Athena's when her Lycan forces its way forward. But I don't intervene. I stand motionless and let it happen. Because Evelyn is rightโthis is the least he deserves.
"Get off me, you insane bitch!" Levi swings an arm wildly, hitting nothing but air.
A ferocious growl erupts from Evelyn as she begins to shift. Her increased weight easily holds him down as her clothing tears away, revealing her massive Lycan form. Still, I do nothing. Her attack intensifies, claws slicing into him. She bites into his flesh as he struggles, but none of the wounds are fatal. As if she's deliberately holding back.
