Chapter 0409
Alexander
Zachary, Sebastian and I stood at the edge of my territory. We had searched everywhere all day. The hospital. His home. The forest. Every possible location we could think of. We found nothing. No blood. No hair. No footprints. Not even a trace of Theodore's scent.
'There must be something.' Titan growled.
'We've covered the entire pack lands. There's nothing. Wherever he took Theodore, it's farther out.'
"Where would Levi take him?" Sebastian asked. "I doubt he knows this area."
"Then it's probably somewhere close." Zachary answered. "But it depends if Theodore is unconscious or not. Levi could be carrying dead weight or forcing him to walk. And it depends on what Levi actually wants. Is he staying because he has a target? Or has he already left, taking Theodore with him forever?"
"We expand the search." I commanded.
โWe need more people for that. And we need trustworthy ones." Sebastian sighed.
"No we don't." Zachary smirked. "We just need answers from one person."
He turned and headed back through the woods. Sebastian raised an eyebrow at me and shrugged.
"Zachary, wait." I called after him.
"It's time for real answers, Alexander. There's only one person we know is definitely lying to us."
"Evelyn."
"We can smell her. We know her scent grows stronger every day. We know from Luc that she's lying. Maybe now it's time to see how close to death she's willing to go."
"She's in denial." Sebastian told him.
"No she's not." I frowned. "Zachary is right. This is a game to her. I don't know if she's gathering information for her brother or what her end goal is, but it's definitely a game. I've seen too many fools play games they think they can win."
We emerged from the trees and headed toward the dungeons when I froze.
'Do you smell that?' Titan murmured.
'Yes.' I could detect Athena's lavender scent. She was supposed to be in the house, not out here.
The dungeon door stood wide open with lights blazing inside. The guard stood to one side. He bowed his head as we approached.
"Is my mate down there?" I demanded.
"Yes. Was I not supposed to let her in?" He asked, confused.
"It doesn't matter now." I snapped.
I hurried down the steps. I found Athena standing in the dim light, staring into Evelyn's cell. Evelyn was sleeping, as was Seraphina, both completely unaware of our presence.
Athena didn't even turn as I approached. "I can hear her." She whispered.
I looked into the cell at a sleeping Evelyn, curled up at the back with drool hanging from her mouth. Who the hell shaved her head?
"She's asleep." I kept my voice low.
"Obviously." Athena murmured. "But her scent has been growing stronger and now there's no doubt - she's a Lycan. I was bathing the boys and I heard whisperings through a mind link. They weren't really saying anything, just making sounds."
She smiled slightly. "Part of me thought it was Evrin trying to speak to me, because he already has his Lycan. But when I spoke back, he didn't respond. So I asked one of the omegas to watch the twins and followed the sound. It grew louder and led me here."
"I don't understand." Sebastian frowned.
"She's linking me without even knowing it."
"Is that even possible?" Zachary asked.
I nodded. Athena had linked me many times while she slept. It was never intentional, but it still happened.
"What is she saying?" I asked.
"Nothing that makes sense. Just mutterings. Now and then she mentions Levi's name but nothing else. Mostly it's just sounds, whimpers. Almost like she's in pain."
"Is she in pain?"
Athena scrunched her face as she stared into the cell. "I don't think so. Could she be dreaming? Is that why she linked me?"
"Possible. Did you shave her head?"
Her blue eyes showed surprise at my question. "No, that was Luc. He took her for questioning earlier. He didn't learn anything. I assume that's why he did it. A punishment that wouldn't really harm her. But he's been busy with Hannah since then. I haven't had a chance to ask."
โShe lied about how she escaped prison.โ Seraphina whispered from behind us.
Everyone turned to look at her. She sat against the back wall, eyes focused on the ground in submission.
"What do you mean?" Athena asked.
"When I met her, she told me she killed someone in the bathroom. That was how she escaped. When I mentioned it to her after Lucas brought her back, I changed bathroom to library and she didn't correct me. She was hysterical about her hair at the time. Maybe that's how I caught her. She lied to me."
"Payback's a bitch." Zachary winked at her.
