Chapter 0272
Saying yes meant inviting a madman onto our territory. Saying no meant a madman knew exactly where we were.
"Tell me more about being a Hunter."
"The name says it all. What else is there to know?" Lucas smirks at me.
"Do you kill Wolves?"
"It happens." He shrugs.
"Your priority is Rogues?"
He gives a single nod.
"You won't touch my mate or my sons."
"Are they Rogues?"
"No. They're Lycans."
His lip curls. "You got Lycan kids? That's some shitty luck."
I step closer. The gate bars are the only thing between us. My eyes lock onto his. "You don't touch them. You don't harm them."
"Have they started training yet?"
"They're infants."
He raises an eyebrow and looks down. "So much for the breed dying out." His hazel eyes snap back to mine. "I won't touch them."
"Or harm them."
He rolls his eyes. "Fine."
I pull the gates open, allowing him and the others inside. "When do I get to meet this female Alpha?"
"In a few hours." No way was I waking her again.
"I'm not waiting hours."
"If you want to kill Rogues, you'll wait." I snap. This was my pack. I wasn't letting some psycho dictate how I ran it.
Lucas sits in the corner of my office. He takes apart his gun, cleaning it meticulously. The others recount what happened. Occasionally, he chips in to confirm their statements but never offers anything new.
"Hey," Athena's voice carries down the stairs. "I smell a..." She trails off as she enters the office, her gaze fixed on Lucas.
Lucas is on his feet instantly. "You weren't kidding about the resemblance." He stares at her far too long for my comfort.
"Who are you?" Athena's defenses go up immediately. She crosses her arms, glaring at him.
"Your knight in shining armor." He muses, bowing dramatically. "And a Rogue's worst nightmare."
"I don't need a knight. This isn't some fairytale where you slay the dragon." She stares him down, her entire body tense.
"Seraphina." He mutters her name and sits back down, returning to his gun.
"You've dealt with Seraphina?" Athena asks with a slight frown.
"I have unfinished business with her. But I hear many of you do." He shrugs and chuckles. "I'd like to be the one to kill her, but I heard there's a queue."
"What did she do to you?" Athena questions.
"More than enough. She needs to pay for that. You see Athena, I want to put a bullet right in the center of that pretty little head. I want her to pay for everything she did to me. Every single thing. I want my eyes to be the last thing she sees."
"She did more than kill your parents, didn't she?" Brianna steps toward him. I watch Sebastian reach out to grab her, just missing her arm.
"You don't need to concern yourself with that. As long as she dies, my day is made." Lucas tells her.
There was clearly something he wasn't sharing. Something he wasn't ready to reveal. Yet I couldn't help wondering what else Seraphina had done to him.
They ask him more questions. Most he avoids, deflecting with his own inquiries. Other answers are short and abrupt. But I also notice him watching Athena. His eyes follow her every move. He isn't just curious about her. He seems fascinated.
Was it because she looked like Seraphina? Or was there another reason he hadn't disclosed?
