Chapter 0060
Alexander
Occasionally, sharp little remarks would slip through, catching both of us off guard.
โIโm not acting strange. Thereโs just a lot happening right now.โ
โYouโre being foolish again!โ Titan grumbled.
โWhat should I say? โBy the way, you were bound more than twice because they were terrified of you.โ Or maybe, โDonโt worry about shiftingโyouโve already done it!โ Do you think she wants to hear that, Titan? Sheโs terrified of shifting!โ
โFine,โ he sulked. โHandle it your way.โ
โYouโฆyou still havenโt said anything,โ Athena murmured. โIs Titanโฆis he saying something to you? Is he talking about me?โ
โTitan cares about you as much as I do. We just have different opinions on how to handle certain situations.โ
Her brow furrowed slightly. โHe wants you toโฆtell me something?โ Her frown deepened.
โNot here,โ I muttered, glancing around at my pack members moving nearby. I took her hand and led her back toward the house, shutting us inside my office.
She dropped into a chair and immediately pulled her knees to her chest. It took me some time to realize this was her way of protecting herselfโa defense against Dominic and his followers targeting her ribs and stomach. Now, it had become a habit whenever she felt vulnerable.
โItโs bad, isnโt it?โ she whispered. โGenevieve is back, and now you and Titan have decidedโฆโ
โThis has nothing to do with Genevieve.โ
โI donโtโฆI donโt understand.โ
โOver the past few days, weโve spent a lot of time in the bedroom. During that time, we had a visitor.โ
โDominic?โ she asked, alarmed.
โNo. A Witch.โ
โOh.โ
โThe same Witch who bound your abilities.โ I delivered the news slowly, like peeling off a bandage. โWhen you were a newborn pup.โ
Her forehead wrinkled, eyes widening. โNoโฆI was six.โ
I held back the rest for now and explained that this was the same Witch I had met to discuss unbinding her. The same Witch who had fled when I mentioned the name of Athenaโs pack. Now I understood why.
โShe helped Dominic?โ
โNo, Athena.โ I sighed. โShe helped your father.โ
Her eyes dropped from mine. Her hands gripped the armrests, knuckles turning white as she squeezed the wood. I felt her anger surge.
โMyโฆmy father?โ
โYes.โ
โMy fatherโฆhe wanted me bound?โ She spat out the words.
Her anger faded quickly, replaced by tears welling in her eyes.
โI know this isnโt what you want to hear, Athena, but from what she told me, I donโt think it was only Dominic and Victoria responsible. I believe it goes back further.โ
She sat there, staring at me with her blue eyes. My heart ached for her. I had never encountered a pack like thisโsecrets thicker than blood, all centered around her.
โWโฆwhy?โ
โThey feared you.โ
She let out a nervous laugh. โMe?โ
I had to tell her the truth.
โYou were able to shift at birth, Athena. They had you bound, and then when you were one, you started shifting again. Your Lycan side was fighting it. You, at one year old, understood why the Witch was there. You purposely kept shifting into a Lycan, hoping she wouldnโt be able to bind you. Athena, thatโs unheard of.โ
โFor Wolves,โ Titan muttered.
Athena stared at me as if I were insane. Pure disbelief that I would suggest she had already shifted. Her mind refused to accept it.
โYouโreโฆyouโre wrong. I would know. Iโฆโ
โYou wouldnโt remember. No pup would or could remember that.โ
โIโฆ That canโt be. Youโre wrong.โ
โIโm only repeating what the Witch told me.โ
โYou believe her.โ
โMadame Zora can be elusive at times, but she has always eventually told me the truth. Even if itโs like drawing blood from a stone. Sometimes cash makes her more cooperative. But this time, she didnโt even want money.โ
โSheโs not listening,โ Titan muttered.
I glanced back at Athena. Her eyes were closed, nose wrinkled as she frowned.
โAre you okay?โ
โI think Iโve heard that name.โ
โMadame Zora?โ I asked curiously.
Her jaw clenched as she nodded.
โFrom someone here?โ
โNo, itโs justโฆsomething up here.โ She tapped her head. โIt feels familiar.โ
โLike I said, they feared you, Athena. Thatโs why the Witch was involved. They fear a female Alpha.โ
โIโm notโโ
โYou are a rare female Alpha of a dying breed.โ
She stood and moved around the desk to the window. โIโm not powerful, Alpha Alexander. Iโm just meโฆthe girl who was made a slave. Iโm notโฆIโm not anything powerful. And I wishโฆplease stop saying it.โ
I felt her sadness. She refused to believe it was possible.
โIf they are dying, let them die out,โ she muttered, still gazing out the window.
โLet them die out?โ Her comment surprised me, and I needed to confirm what I had heard.
She turned to me slowly. A tear traced its way down her cheek, but her expression was filled with anger. โThey did horrible things to me. They donโt deserve to live.โ
