Chapter 0218
The heavy door swung open.
A young woman, likely my age, greeted us with a warm smile.
โHow can I help you?โ
โIโm here to see the Alpha,โ I said, keeping my tone light.
โHeโs currently in a meeting.โ She glanced at her simple wristwatch. โIt should be wrapping up soon, if you donโt mind waiting.โ
โOf course.โ I returned her smile, though mine was as fake as the designer blouse she wore. She didnโt notice.
We waited less than ten minutes before someone exited the office.
A few more minutes passed.
Then a large man stepped out.
He wore a navy blue suit, tailored to perfection.
Loose blonde curls sat atop his head.
His green eyes shone like bright emeralds.
โHello, Iโm Alpha Ryan,โ he said, friendly and welcoming. Unlike many other Alphas Iโd met. It felt unusual. Almost off-putting.
โI believe you know Julian.โ I gestured to the man beside me.
The Alpha smiled, looking him up and down. โYouโve certainly landed on your feet. Howโs your brother?โ
โGood. Heโs a father now.โ
I was impressed by Julianโs ability to mask his hatred. Normally, he couldnโt hide a single drop.
โReally?โ Ryan turned to the woman who had let us in. โPlease send my congratulations to Alexander and his mate.โ
She quickly scribbled something down.
โI know Ethan and Alexander had their issues, but I donโt plan on following in his footsteps.โ He turned back to me. โSorry, I didnโt catch your name.โ
โSeraphina.โ
โPlease, come in.โ
He waited for us to sit before asking how he could help.
No point dragging it out. โI hear you have a little problem.โ
His eyes flashed to me. His friendly demeanor vanished. โI donโt know what youโre talking about.โ His gaze shifted to Julian. โIf this is some shitty plot to force me into a new contract, you need to leave. I just said I want no problems with Alexander.โ
โNothing to do with contracts.โ I paused. โWe are aware that a couple of girls have gone missing. Only to turn up dead.โ
His face hardened. โHow do you know that?โ
โI have my resources.โ I had no intention of getting two young girls into trouble.
โYouโre not the first pack to have trouble,โ Julian added. โIt killed my mate. Then tried to kill my sister.โ His composure held firm, making my heart flutter. I was proud of how far heโd come, even with a long way still to go.
โItโs a beast,โ Alpha Ryan muttered.
I nodded and gave him a crash course on Rogues. I knew it was a lot to take in. Learning that more than just Wolves could shift.
โYou think you can deal with it?โ he asked.
โIโve killed several others like him.โ
โAnd what do you want in return?โ
โNothing. Well, nothing other than food, hot water, and somewhere to rest.โ
If he had come to me, I wouldโve asked for much more. But since I went to him, it wasnโt fair to charge.
