Chapter 0347

โ€œI already told you, youโ€™re focusing on the wrong person!โ€

โ€œSo if something happens to her, what then? Her father comes after us? You come after us?โ€

โ€œExactly. Iโ€™ll say this once. If you or any other Lycan tries anything foolish, it won't just be me or Luc you have to answer to. Lottie is part of Athenaโ€™s family. How do you think Athena will react after she welcomed you into her home?โ€

โ€œI support our Alpha completely, but I donโ€™t want that Hunterโ€™s child around my kids.โ€

โ€œWhy? Worried theyโ€™ll turn out like Seraphina?โ€ I walk off before he can respond.

Athena stands at the front door, hands on her hips. โ€œNow youโ€™re threatening other Lycans?โ€

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t a threat. But Iโ€™m glad they can mind-link you when necessary.โ€

She sighs and sits on the bottom step. โ€œZachary. Iโ€™m sorry, alright? I had to intervene. I couldnโ€™t let you do it.โ€

โ€œStop apologizing, Athena. I keep telling you I understand. You donโ€™t need to keep saying sorry.โ€

โ€œButโ€”โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t blame you, Athena. Not for anything. I blame her. She took the easy way out. She didnโ€™t even fight for what was hers. And honestly, I have bigger things to worry about.โ€

โ€œIf you need to talk, Iโ€™mโ€”โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t.โ€

She exhales sharply. โ€œAre you going to tell me what happened with Caleb?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sure heโ€™s already told you.โ€

She rolls her eyes. โ€œI like to hear both sides.โ€

I sit beside her on the stairs. โ€œI wonโ€™t let anything happen to Lottie.โ€

โ€œI know. But we all have to make this work. We have the original Wolves, Lycansโ€”both bitten and pure-bloodsโ€”and several Hunters. Though Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™d put Theodore in that category.โ€ She smiles faintly. โ€œIโ€™ll talk to Caleb.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s a jerk, Athena. Donโ€™t fall for his nonsense.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s my choice.โ€

I nod. โ€œWhereโ€™s Alexander?โ€

โ€œDown at the gate. Apparently, thereโ€™s another one.โ€

โ€œAnd you didnโ€™t go?โ€

โ€œI waited for you. Isabella took the twins. I was about to head down, but whoeverโ€™s at the gate isnโ€™t urgent. You understand that, right? Youโ€™re not alone here. Just because sheโ€™s gone doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re not family.โ€

โ€œGood. Because youโ€™re stuck with me.โ€

We walk down to the gates together. A woman stands on the other side, arms crossed defensively. Sheโ€™s human. How did a human get all the way out here?

Her eyes are an unusual shade of grey. โ€œYou donโ€™t believe me, do you?โ€ she mutters to Alexander.

โ€œWhy would a human be here?โ€ Athena whispers.

โ€œOnly one way to find out.โ€

The womanโ€™s strange grey eyes shift to Athena as we approach. Her lips part slightly. โ€œShit!โ€

I immediately pull Athena behind me. Her life is far more valuable than mine. I donโ€™t need another fool trying to harm her.

โ€œHow did you find this place?โ€ Alexander demands.

โ€œI was shown.โ€

โ€œBy who?โ€

โ€œSomeone like me.โ€

โ€œAnother human?โ€ I ask.

โ€œIโ€™m not human. Not anymore, at least. Itโ€™s complicated. I was a Lycan. Then my abilities were taken.โ€

โ€œYou werenโ€™t bound. If you were bound, youโ€™d still carry a scent. But you only smell human,โ€ Alexander tells her.

โ€œI donโ€™t know what he did to us. I just know I was never the same after.โ€

โ€œBullshit!โ€ Alexander snaps.

โ€œWhat if I told you the same thing happened to Seraphina?โ€ the woman says.

โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€ Athena steps around me.

โ€œSeraphina isnโ€™t a Lycan anymore.โ€

โ€œImpossible.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s the one who showed me where your pack is. I came to warn you.โ€

โ€œReally? What is Seraphina threatening me with now?โ€ Athena demands.

โ€œItโ€™s not Seraphina. She didnโ€™t want me to come, but we had no choice. The man who did this to me and others is probably on his way here looking for her. She told him she was your half-sister.โ€ The woman shakes her head at Athena.

โ€œIโ€™m not afraid of one man!โ€ Athena retorts. โ€œWhatever happened to Seraphina is exactly what she deserved.โ€

The woman sighs. โ€œShe did a lot of terrible things, I know. But instead of facing consequences, she had everything stripped from her. Thatโ€™s what he does.โ€

Athena scoffs.

โ€œWhatโ€™s your name?โ€ Alexander asks.

โ€œEvelyn Reed. But everyone calls me Evie or Eve.โ€ She shakes her head. โ€œThis man is dangerous.โ€

โ€œIs this a trick?โ€ Athena whispers to me.

โ€œShe seems to know a lot.โ€

โ€œShe isnโ€™t lying.โ€ Luc strolls up beside us. His hazel eyes fix on the woman. โ€œBut youโ€™re not telling us everything either, are you, Evelyn?โ€
