Chapter 0049
"I agree."
She flashes a smile. "Oh, so you regret marking her?"
"No. I regret letting you live." I turn my back and walk away. "Keep your distance, Genevieve."
"You can't just walk away, Alexander!" she whines, rushing to keep up with me.
"I do what I want, Genevieve."
"Why are you acting like this? You cared about me once."
"That was then. Like you said, it was a long time ago. There have been others since you. Not once did I come back. Why would now be any different?"
"Because it's me."
Has she not come up with anything new? Titan groans. It's the same old story every time. Please, we were good together, you let me live, blah blah blah. She really needs to get over herself.
"Did she sleep with Julian? Is that why you banished him?"
"No. Stop digging for information."
She pouts her red lips, matching my pace as I head toward the house.
"Genevieve, go away."
"I want to meet the woman who captured your heart."
I stop and glare at her. "You want to meet my mate?"
"Yes. I want to meet your bride."
"She's my mate, Genevieve. Not just a bride. My true mate."
"You found her?" Her voice drops to a whisper. Her eyes widen.
"Yes."
"NO!"
I smile at the disappointment in her voice. It sounds just like the day I ended things.
"Yes. I didn't mark her on a whim. I marked her because she is my mate. The one I've spent years searching for."
"Where did you find her?"
"None of your business."
"I bet she can't even satisfy you, can she?!" she mocks, trying to provoke me.
The last few days of our contract, I had already distanced myself.
She was a good shag. In the end, that's all I enjoyed about her.
The memories amuse me. Genevieve seemed blind to what was happening.
My brother knew. He kept joking about sleeping with her.
But he never did.
Genevieve was the only one he never touched. That said everything.
"I would like to meet her." Genevieve's tone shifts. Her words lighten, as if suddenly pleased.
She's up to something, Titan mutters.
"No," I tell her.
"You can't hide her forever, Alexander. I told you, I'm home. It's time to put down roots. Stop spending all your money on travel." She flutters her eyelashes again.
I'm tempted to kick her out. But so far, she's only made a few comments.
"Did you get a job?" I ask.
"I did. Nothing major. A personal assistant to someone in the city." She digs into her pocket and pulls out the credit card I gave her. "Here." She smiles and hands it over. "Guess I don't need this anymore."
"What game are you playing, Genevieve?"
"No game. Like I said, it's time to stop exploring. Time to settle down. I am a Wolf, after all. We're useless without a pack."
She's done something, Titan mutters.
"What did you do, Genevieve?"
"Nothing." She raises her hands. "I swear I'm telling the truth."
Bullshit! Titan snaps. I agree. The longest Genevieve stayed in one place was when we were together. Even then, she was desperate to travel to far-off countries. She never cared about belonging to a pack. That was one thing I liked about her.
"Why did you go to the hospital instead of coming straight to the pack house? Are you in trouble?"
