Chapter 0443

"An Alpha?" Her eyebrows drew together in confusion.

'This is impossible.' Nyx's voice echoed in my mind. 'We are the last female Alpha. There cannot be another.'

"Who are your parents?" I demanded.

"My father was Thomas Reed. I never knew my mother's name." Evelyn's voice trembled slightly. "My father told me she came from a powerful family but wasn't ready for motherhood. He convinced her to carry me to term and promised to raise me alone."

"Levi's surname is Bennett." Zachary muttered under his breath.

"No, that's his middle name. Levi Bennett Reed." Evelyn frowned deeply. "What's happening to me?"

"Just breathe." Zachary instructed firmly. "Keep your mind clear. Don't let her push through."

"What happened to your father?" I asked as she took several deep breaths.

"Heart attack. Even Lycans can't survive that. I was twelve. Levi took care of me." She snorted and shook her head. "But he didn't really, did he?"

"Can Dakota tell you if you have Alpha genes?" I pressed further.

"I'm not sure."

"You have to ask her." Zachary told her. "Just like when you told her to stop shifting."

"Am I an Alpha?" She spoke openly to the room.

Several minutes passed before her eyebrows shot up.

"No." Evelyn finally answered.

'She took too long to answer just to say no.' Nyx growled.

"What else did she say?" I asked curiously.

"I'm not... I'm not an Alpha but I do carry the genes." She shook her head, her grey eyes widening. "How is that possible? You're the Alpha. We're not siblings.'

'No we are not.' Nyx growled fiercely.

My pulse thudded heavily as blood rushed between my ears. If she carried Alpha genes, she had the potential to eliminate me and take my place. Just like Julian would challenge Alexander.

Was this what Levi meant? It could be a bloodbath because she had the power to wipe out everyone including me.

Evelyn stared back at me through the cell bars. Her eyes were wide with fear. Perhaps she thought I would kill her now that she posed a threat.

Zachary strode toward me. "Let's get some fresh air." He turned back to Evelyn. "I'll find you clean clothes."

"You're leaving." She whispered.

"Temporarily. My advice? Get to know your Lycan."

"What's happening?" I murmured as the guard closed and locked the dungeon door behind us.

"I think we need to consult Theodore."

"Why Theodore?"

"He's been working on your family tree."

"You think she's related to me, don't you?"

"Alexander once said you don't get multiple true Alpha Lycans. There's a bloodline." He pointed at me. "So while she might not be a sibling, perhaps she's a distant cousin. The problem is, many things were kept from you. You didn't know who you really were until recently."

"Do you think Levi knows?" I asked as we walked toward the house.

"He certainly knew she was powerful. Though he might not know how powerful."

Inside the house, Theodore, Alexander and Luc were arguing about the Witch Hunter business. I couldn't follow much of their argument due to excessive swearing.

"SHE CARRIES ALPHA BLOOD!" I screamed.

The three men stopped shouting and turned to stare at me and Zachary.

"She has a Lycan called Dakota." I muttered. "There's a good chance we're related." I couldn't believe those words left my mouth.

"I would have detected it." Luc scowled.

"Clearly something's wrong with you! You've missed so much regarding Evelyn!" I snapped back as he glared at me.

"She's not wrong." Zachary confirmed. "Your Hunter skills seem to be slipping. You should have killed Levi when you had the chance."

"My skills are not slipping!" Luc snarled through gritted teeth.

"Are you certain about that?" Zachary challenged.

"You want to challenge me now, Rogue?!" Luc spat venomously.
