Chapter 0061

A dark thought flickered in her mind. It was a hidden part of her, buried deep beneath the persona she'd built over the years. Most would find it disturbing. I found it electrifying. It called to me. I needed to draw it out.

A sharp knock interrupted us. Isabellaโ€™s familiar scent drifted through the door. The conversation halted. From Athenaโ€™s thoughts, I sensed her relief.

โ€œEnter,โ€ I called.

My sister stepped inside. Her eyes darted between Athena and me, assessing. โ€œCan I take Athena shopping?โ€

โ€œShopping?โ€

โ€œA few of us are heading into the city. I thought she might like to come. Unless Iโ€™m interrupting something important again?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s her decision.โ€ I watched my mate, listening to her silent worries.

She shook her head. โ€œIโ€™m notโ€ฆ Iโ€™m not ready.โ€ Her gaze shifted to me. โ€œIt might not be safe.โ€

โ€œNothing will happen,โ€ Isabella insisted. โ€œThe city is neutral territory. Fighting is forbidden there. Iโ€™ll be with her. Weโ€™ll keep her safe.โ€

โ€œWho is โ€˜weโ€™?โ€ I asked.

โ€œMe, Theodoreโ€ฆโ€ She listed a few others.

โ€œTheodore is going?โ€ Shopping was hardly his style.

โ€œHe wants more books. You know how he is. Wonโ€™t have them delivered in case the pages get bent.โ€ She rolled her eyes. โ€œI figured youโ€™d want a chaperone.โ€

โ€œSo you recruited him?โ€

โ€œExactly.โ€

I turned back to Athena. โ€œSheโ€™s right. The city is safe. I trust Theodore.โ€

โ€œWhat about Dominic?โ€ she whispered.

โ€œI doubt heโ€™d go there.โ€ I locked eyes with Isabella. โ€œIf thereโ€™s any troubleโ€”โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll get her out immediately.โ€

I moved closer to Athena, turning her to face me. โ€œIsabella has gone to the city weekly since childhood. She knows it better than anyone. If you donโ€™t want to go, thatโ€™s fine too.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™tโ€ฆ you donโ€™t want me to go.โ€ She kept her eyes down. โ€œI can feel it.โ€

โ€œIโ€™d prefer you where I can reach you instantly. But hiding wonโ€™t help you conquer your fears. I trust my sister. I trust Theodore. They wonโ€™t let anything happen to you. Anyone who tries would be incredibly stupid.โ€

โ€œEvery Wolf knows who my brother is,โ€ Isabella added. โ€œGabriel made sure of that.โ€

She claimed she didnโ€™t blame me for Gabrielโ€™s rejection. But her words sometimes suggested otherwise. I ignored the comment, focusing on my mate. โ€œItโ€™s your choice, Athena.โ€

โ€œWhat if Iโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll have to trust that you wonโ€™t.โ€

I felt Isabellaโ€™s stare burning into me. I still hadnโ€™t told her about Athena being Lycan.

โ€œWait, what?โ€ Isabellaโ€™s eyes shot to Athena when I finally revealed it. โ€œYouโ€™re telling me she looks like that thing you killed?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œSo sheโ€™s not a Wolf?โ€ She glared, demanding answers.

โ€œTechnically, from what I understand, they are part Wolf.โ€

โ€œTechnically?โ€ she sputtered.

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€˜This is going great,โ€™ Titan groaned.

โ€œOkay, so the guy in the dungeon, claiming to be her brother. Heโ€™s one too?โ€ Isabella asked.

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œAnd youโ€™re letting him live?โ€

โ€œFor now. Are you questioning my decision?โ€ My tone was a clear warning.

She turned to Athena, her expression softening. She likely realized her words applied to my mate too. โ€œAre you okay?โ€

Athena shook her head.

โ€œThen you definitely need to come. Escape this madness for a few hours. Clear your head. Spend a fortune on my brotherโ€™s credit.โ€

Athenaโ€™s blue eyes found mine.

โ€œYour choice,โ€ I repeated.

Reluctantly, she agreed. She spent the next hour seeking reassurance.

She asked me one last time before getting in the car.

โ€œJust try to enjoy yourself,โ€ I told her.

Isabella pulled her into the vehicle. โ€œIโ€™ll watch her. If itโ€™s too much, weโ€™ll return immediately.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t usually like the clingy ones,โ€ Sebastian remarked as the car drove away.

โ€œThis is different.โ€

โ€œBecause sheโ€™s your mate? Because you marked her?โ€ He raised a brow.

โ€œSheโ€™s clingy out of fear, not possession. She needs time.โ€

โ€œHow did Isabella take the news?โ€

โ€œShe focused more on me sparing Caleb. It took her a moment to realize wanting him dead would make her a hypocrite regarding Athena.โ€

โ€œIsabella doesnโ€™t usually make friends easily. She must like Athena. Especially to invite her shopping. Sheโ€™s never done that with anyone else.โ€

I nodded. My sister preferred the hospital to social events.

โ€œI need you to do something for me,โ€ I said as the car disappeared.

โ€œYou want me to watch her?โ€

โ€œJust as a precaution.โ€
