Chapter 0066
Alexander
She glares at me. "Is that... even possible?"
"Right now, everything seems possible."
"Because I'm a monster?"
"Stop calling yourself that."
She rolls onto her back, staring at the ceiling. She sighs and rests her hands on her flat stomach.
"They'll all react that way." She mumbles, puffing her cheeks. "You... you're the only one who doesn't seem..."
"I don't care what you are. All I care about is that you're mine." I pull her against me. "And why are you still wearing clothes to bed?"
My hand slips under her oversized t-shirt and grazes her lower back. She gasps softly.
Unexpectedly, she pushes me away.
"I can't." she whispers, tugging the t-shirt back down over her hips.
She was fighting hard to keep certain thoughts at bay. Trying to maintain a clear mind so I wouldn't discover her inner turmoil.
I pin her to the bed, dropping my weight on top of her. "What's wrong?"
"You're... crushing my... lungs."
I ease my weight slightly but keep her trapped beneath me.
"Are you still tender?"
She closes her eyes.
"Embarrassed?" I drive my leg between hers, forcing her thighs apart.
She shakes her head slightly. "Uncomfortable." she whispers.
I kiss the mark on her neck. I tell her I'll let her be tonight. Only then does she relax. She falls asleep before I do, curled against my side.
'We need to stop Dominic and Victoria.' Titan growls. 'They nearly started a war in the neutral zone.'
'I know.'
'There are others desperate to knock us down.'
'I know.' I mutter, running my fingers through my mate's dark hair.
'You know how angry I've been, Alexander. I wish we had been there. I wish she had never gone. But I can't change what happened. I can only ensure it never happens again.'
I look down at Athena. Her eyelashes flutter against her cheeks as she sleeps peacefully. She seems unaware of the rage building inside me.
'I need to run.' I tell Titan, slipping from Athena's grasp.
'We should speak to Caleb again.' He suggests.
'He didn't know Athena was going into the city.'
'No, but he might understand their current plans. Or at least predict their next move.'
I pull on a pair of shorts and move through the house. I step into the falling snow. The cold beneath my bare feet offers relief from my constant body heat.
I walk through the snow to the dungeon. A guard leans against the door, bored out of his mind.
"Any problems?" I ask.
"No, he keeps to himself." The guard mumbles, stepping aside to let me through.
The guard closes the door behind me as I turn on the lights.
"Really, it's the middle of the night?" Caleb mutters. He apologizes when he sees me. "I'm not great without sleep. What can I do for you Alpha Alexander?"
He stretches his limbs and yawns.
"Athena." I mutter.
"You'll need to give me more than that." He rubs his eyes.
"You keep talking about Athena being an Alpha."
"She is."
"Right. What is she capable of?"
"No one knows for certain. I've researched, but the most I found is that someone in her position possesses great power. They just need to learn how to access it."
"Are you talking magic? Like a Witch?"
"Honestly Alpha Alexander, I don't know. I just know she can restore us to our rightful status in the world."
"And that's why they fear her?"
