Chapter 0029
Marcus stumbled forward, clutching his chest.
Beta Sebastian quickly pulled me from my seat just before Marcus collapsed.
He made low, guttural sounds before going completely still.
Both Luna Victoria and my brother Dominic shot to their feet.
โYouโฆyou killed him!โ Luna Victoria cried out.
โHe got exactly what he deserved. I just needed to make sure he properly rejected Athena.โ
โYou murdered my brother!โ Victoria shrieked, rushing to Marcusโs side.
I hadnโt known they were siblings.
For a split second, I felt a pang of sympathy for her.
Then I remembered all the hell she had put me through.
โYou better watch your back, Alpha Alexander.โ She growled at him.
โYou donโt scare me.โ He mused calmly.
โMaybe I donโt. But when you see whatโs coming, youโll wish I was the least of your problems.โ
โWhat are you talking about?โ Alexander demanded. โIs that a threat?โ
โYouโll see.โ She muttered as Dominic pulled her arm, helping her up from the floor.
They both bolted from the room.
Alpha Alexander sent Beta Sebastian after them.
I stared at Marcusโs dead body, half hunched over the chair Iโd been sitting in.
I had wished for his death for so long.
Now that it had happened, I feltโฆ relieved.
โAre you okay? Did it hurt when he rejected you?โ Alexanderโs voice was soft.
He used his fingers to gently turn my face toward his.
โNo. But it hurt him. I saw the pain on his face.โ I whispered. โHeโฆ he said it differently this time.โ
โI thought that might be the case.โ
โIโฆI didnโt know they were brother and sister.โ
โDoes it matter? Youโre Dominicโs sister, and they treated you horrendously.โ
โBut it was me. I did kill my parents.โ I muttered quietly. โI saw myself giving them the jug.โ
โWhat did you remember?โ
I told him about the flashback.
He didnโt interrupt me once as I recalled the smaller details.
Only when I finished did he tell me he still believed I was set up.
It was the same thing he had been saying all along.
โVictoria said she wanted you to kill her parents. I think that was an excuse. I believe the plan was always for you to give the poison to your own parents. She wanted to be Luna, and your brother wanted to be Alpha.โ
โTheyโll never know, though. They died believing their daughter killed them.โ I groaned.
He sighed at my words.
Before he could speak, Beta Sebastian returned.
โTheyโre gone. Everyone has gone. The pack has cleared out.โ
โWhat the hell are you talking about?โ
โI followed Dominic and Victoria into the trees and quickly lost their scent. Itโs like they vanished into thin air.โ
โThatโs not possible. Wolves donโt just vanish. Where the fuck did they go?โ
โIโm assuming they have some kind of safe space.โ Sebastian shrugged.
โSet up a search party and hunt them down. Iโm taking Athena home.โ
Back in the car, I felt his eyes on me.
I kept my gaze lowered.
I knew he had questions, but I couldnโt answer them.
I knew nothing when it came to my own pack.
It turned out I didnโt actually know much about Wolves at all.
โYou donโt have to see them ever again, if you donโt want to.โ His voice was low. โAs far as Iโm concerned, the contract is void. The one thing that was tying you to the pack is dead.โ
I lay down on the seat, turning away to face the back.
I could still feel his gaze burning into the back of my head.
He wanted me to talk.
But there was nothing I could say.
I was too busy remembering the last time I saw my parents.
And how they had looked at me.
