Chapter 0029

Marcus stumbled forward, clutching his chest.

Beta Sebastian quickly pulled me from my seat just before Marcus collapsed.

He made low, guttural sounds before going completely still.

Both Luna Victoria and my brother Dominic shot to their feet.

โ€œYouโ€ฆyou killed him!โ€ Luna Victoria cried out.

โ€œHe got exactly what he deserved. I just needed to make sure he properly rejected Athena.โ€

โ€œYou murdered my brother!โ€ Victoria shrieked, rushing to Marcusโ€™s side.

I hadnโ€™t known they were siblings.

For a split second, I felt a pang of sympathy for her.

Then I remembered all the hell she had put me through.

โ€œYou better watch your back, Alpha Alexander.โ€ She growled at him.

โ€œYou donโ€™t scare me.โ€ He mused calmly.

โ€œMaybe I donโ€™t. But when you see whatโ€™s coming, youโ€™ll wish I was the least of your problems.โ€

โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€ Alexander demanded. โ€œIs that a threat?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ll see.โ€ She muttered as Dominic pulled her arm, helping her up from the floor.

They both bolted from the room.

Alpha Alexander sent Beta Sebastian after them.

I stared at Marcusโ€™s dead body, half hunched over the chair Iโ€™d been sitting in.

I had wished for his death for so long.

Now that it had happened, I feltโ€ฆ relieved.

โ€œAre you okay? Did it hurt when he rejected you?โ€ Alexanderโ€™s voice was soft.

He used his fingers to gently turn my face toward his.

โ€œNo. But it hurt him. I saw the pain on his face.โ€ I whispered. โ€œHeโ€ฆ he said it differently this time.โ€

โ€œI thought that might be the case.โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆI didnโ€™t know they were brother and sister.โ€

โ€œDoes it matter? Youโ€™re Dominicโ€™s sister, and they treated you horrendously.โ€

โ€œBut it was me. I did kill my parents.โ€ I muttered quietly. โ€œI saw myself giving them the jug.โ€

โ€œWhat did you remember?โ€

I told him about the flashback.

He didnโ€™t interrupt me once as I recalled the smaller details.

Only when I finished did he tell me he still believed I was set up.

It was the same thing he had been saying all along.

โ€œVictoria said she wanted you to kill her parents. I think that was an excuse. I believe the plan was always for you to give the poison to your own parents. She wanted to be Luna, and your brother wanted to be Alpha.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™ll never know, though. They died believing their daughter killed them.โ€ I groaned.

He sighed at my words.

Before he could speak, Beta Sebastian returned.

โ€œTheyโ€™re gone. Everyone has gone. The pack has cleared out.โ€

โ€œWhat the hell are you talking about?โ€

โ€œI followed Dominic and Victoria into the trees and quickly lost their scent. Itโ€™s like they vanished into thin air.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not possible. Wolves donโ€™t just vanish. Where the fuck did they go?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m assuming they have some kind of safe space.โ€ Sebastian shrugged.

โ€œSet up a search party and hunt them down. Iโ€™m taking Athena home.โ€

Back in the car, I felt his eyes on me.

I kept my gaze lowered.

I knew he had questions, but I couldnโ€™t answer them.

I knew nothing when it came to my own pack.

It turned out I didnโ€™t actually know much about Wolves at all.

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to see them ever again, if you donโ€™t want to.โ€ His voice was low. โ€œAs far as Iโ€™m concerned, the contract is void. The one thing that was tying you to the pack is dead.โ€

I lay down on the seat, turning away to face the back.

I could still feel his gaze burning into the back of my head.

He wanted me to talk.

But there was nothing I could say.

I was too busy remembering the last time I saw my parents.

And how they had looked at me.
