Chapter 0121

Alexander

I stepped into a heavy silence.

Athena looked pale and shaken.

She was clutching her stomach tightly.

Tears welled in her eyes.

โ€œWhatโ€ฆwhat does that mean?โ€ she whispered to Madame Zora.

โ€œExactly as I said.โ€ Madame Zoraโ€™s gaze shifted to me. โ€œI cannot provide the answers you seek.โ€

โ€œName your price.โ€ I knew her methods well.

She shook her head slowly. โ€œIf I accepted payment for this, the answers would be worthless.โ€

She turned back to Athena. โ€œI regret my role in your upbringing.โ€

โ€œTwice!โ€ I snapped sharply.

โ€œAnd I wish I could give you the information you need.โ€ She sighed deeply.

โ€œYou said you wanted one last look at me, the Lycan Alpha. Does that mean Iโ€™m dying?โ€ Athena demanded.

โ€œEveryone is.โ€ She offered a sad smile.

I shook my head in disbelief. I had known Madame Zora for decades. โ€œAthena, sheโ€™s referring to herself.โ€

โ€œYou were always the cleverest Alpha, Alpha Alexander.โ€ Madame Zora winked at me before focusing on my mate. โ€œYes, heโ€™s correct. Alpha Athena. My time has finally come.โ€

โ€œOh.โ€

โ€œWhat I can tell you is that your boys will thrive. You simply have a journey ahead.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s all?โ€ I asked, watching my mate closely.

โ€œThat is all I possess.โ€ She rose to her feet. โ€œNow if youโ€™ll excuse me, I wish to enjoy my remaining days.โ€

She turned to leave, then paused. โ€œOne more thing. Your mother experienced the same sickness. For Lycans, itโ€™s common. Likely due to the human essence within. Try ginger biscuits. Your appetite will return soon.โ€

As she departed, I heard Ethan shouting after her, demanding to know her destination.

โ€œShe made it sound like I was dying?โ€ Athena whispered with a frown.

โ€œMadame Zora speaks in riddles. You should have waited for me. I could have interpreted for you.โ€

โ€œI still donโ€™t understand.โ€ She whispered. โ€œI still donโ€™t know what they are.โ€

โ€œPerhaps we should take each day as it comes. When you feel them, your perspective will change.โ€

She nodded, then suddenly looked up. โ€œThereโ€™s something I need to tell you.โ€

โ€œHe already did. For once, Julian is actually doing the right thing.โ€

โ€œIt will shatter her.โ€ Athena murmured.

I knew they had spoken, just as I hoped. Sophia had confided in her when Athena fixed her hair.

Athena hadnโ€™t shared details with me.

She said it wasnโ€™t her place to tell.

Sophia had asked for confidentiality.

I respected her choice.

โ€œJust be there for her. Be the person you needed growing up.โ€ I told her.

A sharp knock interrupted us.

Ethan entered without waiting. โ€œWhat did you say to my witch?โ€

โ€œFirst: Itโ€™s none of your concern. Second: You donโ€™t own her. Third: Youโ€™re in my house. Watch your tone!โ€ I growled.

โ€œI brought her here to help with whatever this is.โ€ He gestured toward my mate. โ€œYou wanted answers, and now sheโ€™s walked away without looking back. What did you say? Or did she tell you weโ€™re all doomed?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s dying.โ€ Athena muttered. โ€œShe canโ€™t help you anymore.โ€

โ€œWhat the hell are you talking about?โ€

โ€œIf you keep speaking to my mate like that, Iโ€™ll break your neck!โ€ I snarled. โ€œMadame Zora is dying. She has days left. She doesnโ€™t care about you โ€˜owningโ€™ her.โ€
