Chapter 0284

โ€œAre you going to explain what just happened?โ€ Isabellaโ€™s voice is low as I shut the door hard. She doesnโ€™t turn toward me. Her focus remains entirely on her brother.

โ€œThat jerk says heโ€™s a Hunter.โ€

โ€œI thought he was a Wolf.โ€

โ€œA Hunter who targets Rogues and Lycans.โ€

She blows out a breath and finally tears her dark gaze from Julian to look at me. โ€œWhy would my brother bring someone like that here? With you and Athena hereโ€ฆ Brianna and the boysโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHe also has history with Seraphina.โ€ I let out a frustrated sound. โ€œAnd Brianna convinced him to help Athena.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s Charlotteโ€™s father?โ€ Her eyes lock on mine as I deliver the news. Itโ€™s the most attention sheโ€™s given me since Julian was brought in. A small victory, distracting her exhausted mind even for a moment.

โ€œSo it seems.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re certain?โ€

โ€œI saw his expression when he looked at her. It mirrored the way Alexander and Athena look at their sons.โ€

โ€œHow is Charlotte handling it?โ€

โ€œBetter than expected. She almost seemed to recognize him.โ€ I frown, remembering how she hugged me. I mistook her fear for overwhelm. โ€œShe ran straight into his arms.โ€

โ€œShe wonโ€™t stop loving you.โ€ Isabella offers a faint, tired smile.

โ€œBut Iโ€™m not her actual father, am I?โ€ The thought felt like a physical tear in my chest.

โ€œDonโ€™t assume the worst yet. Charlotte adores you. Youโ€™re the only one she lets call her Lottie. She wonโ€™t just disappear from your life.โ€

โ€œShe will if he takes her. This is her home, Isabella. She loves her pack. Sheโ€™s a pack Wolf.โ€

โ€œIf heโ€™s helping Athena, heโ€™ll be staying awhile. Seraphina hasnโ€™t been seen since your last encounter. Charlotte isnโ€™t leaving you that easily.โ€ She glares at me. โ€œAnd you canโ€™t kill him. That would destroy her.โ€

Her gaze drops back to her brother. Iโ€™d lost her attention again. In the silence, I replayed the Hunterโ€™s words. โ€˜Twins in essence and spirit.โ€™ He claimed the machines werenโ€™t sustaining Julian.

Isabella had said their Wolves were twins too. Could he possibly mean Midnight was keeping Julian alive?

I hated the bastard, but I needed answers.

Alexander and the Hunter were still outside the hospital.

โ€œWhat did you mean about the machines not keeping him alive?โ€ I demanded.

He smirked. My fingers itched to wrap around his throat.

โ€œHe was suggesting itโ€™s Isabella,โ€ Alexander stated calmly.

โ€œAlright, enlighten me with your brilliant theory.โ€

โ€œDo you genuinely want to know, or are you just being difficult?โ€

Alexanderโ€™s crimson eyes held mine. A silent warning to tread carefully.

โ€œI want to hear it,โ€ I gritted out.

โ€œHe lives because of her. Twin Wolves shared by twins are as rare as Athena. You know that, right?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m aware.โ€

โ€œTheir souls are linked.โ€ He laced his fingers together. โ€œIntertwined.โ€

โ€œHow does that work? He left the pack.โ€

โ€œThey leave a piece of themselves behind. When I say sheโ€™s keeping him alive, itโ€™s becauseโ€ฆโ€

โ€œPart of her soul resides in him,โ€ Alexander finished. โ€œShe isnโ€™t dead, so he canโ€™t move on.โ€

โ€œExactly!โ€ The Hunter clapped his hands together, winking at Alexander. โ€œAnd thatโ€™s why you, Alexander, felt his death and continued. She canโ€™t. Sheโ€™s trapped.โ€

โ€œDoes he still possess a soul?โ€ Alexander asked, his brow furrowed.

โ€œI believe you already know the answer to that.โ€

โ€œOkay, oh wise one,โ€ I muttered, sarcasm dripping from my tone. โ€œWhat do we do if my mate is the one sustaining him?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing you can do. Itโ€™s in the hands of a higher power. The machines aid his healing. But no one survives long without a soul. Perhaps if itโ€™s deemed he deserves it, heโ€™ll be granted a new one. You should pray for that outcome.โ€

โ€œTotal lunatic,โ€ I muttered, turning away. Iโ€™d never heard such nonsense.

โ€œYou love my little girl,โ€ he shouted after me. โ€œSheโ€™ll grow up to be just like me. If I somehow decide to let you live, will you make her think sheโ€™s losing her mind?โ€

โ€œYou canโ€™t guarantee sheโ€™ll be like you.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s in her genetics. Iโ€™ve already seen the signs.โ€

I was ready to retort when Athenaโ€™s voice echoed in my mind. โ€˜This is your Alpha. Your presence is required in Obsidian Howl.โ€™

I looked up, confused. I was already in Obsidian Howl. I turned to ask Alexander what was happening just as Brianna sprinted toward us, a huge grin on her face.

โ€œShe did it! She linked everyone.โ€
