Chapter 0136
I gesture toward Nathan.
Zachary moves swiftly, yanking him upright from the ground. His teeth sink deep into Nathanโs throat, tearing it out effortlessly. He tosses the body aside like trash, spitting out the flesh. โThe Rogues will collect him later.โ
Zacharyโs gaze lands on Sophia, whoโs clinging to me. โVictoria turned someone this young?โ
I nod. โOld enough to shift, though.โ
โShe deserved a bullet.โ
โSheโs already dead,โ I reply.
โYou killed her?โ
โNo. My mate. She ripped her heart out.โ
He lets out a dark chuckle. โSmart woman.โ
โSheโs the Alpha,โ Sophia whispers against my chest.
Zacharyโs head snaps up, eyes scanning the cornfield. โYou need to go. Theyโve caught the scent of blood.โ His attention shifts to Brianna. โTake them to the house. Iโll meet you.โ He presses a kiss to her forehead before vanishing into the stalks.
โSophia, go with Brianna. Iโve got Julian.โ
I haul my brother over my shoulder. Zachary must have hit him hard to keep him unconscious this long.
By the time we reach the car, heโs starting to stir. โSophia,โ he slurs.
โSheโs safe. Youโll see her soon,โ I mutter just as he passes out again.
โHurry!โ Brianna shouts. โIf they pick up your scent, I canโt hold them back.โ
The car peels away the second I shut the door. Instead of turning back, Brianna drives farther north.
โHe said take us to the house!โ I snap.
โI heard him. He didnโt mean that dump you were hiding in.โ
Sophia twists in her seat to look at me. Her blue eyes are wide with fear. โHe kidnapped me! Alpha Nathan took me!โ
โI know. Iโm sorry. We were so focused on protecting Athenaโฆ I never thought youโd be targeted.โ
โWhy me? I didnโt do anything.โ
โHe took you for his brother.โ
โAlpha Ethan?โ
I nod.
Her gaze falls on Julian. โHe really came for me?โ
โYes.โ
โIโm still not accepting his rejection.โ
โThen donโt. Maybe itโs time he learns he canโt always have his way. But these past two days showed me somethingโhe does care. And heโll wait.โ
A small smile touches her lips. She turns back around, settling into her seat.
Brianna pulls up to a neat, well-kept houseโnothing like the last place. Flower boxes line the windowsills. A white picket fence borders the garden.
โThis is where you actually live?โ
โThe other spot was a base. This is home. Just because Iโm a beast doesnโt mean I canโt appreciate nice things. Make yourselves comfortable. I need a shower.โ
Sophia beelines for the fridge, muttering about starvation. I dump Julian on the sofa. His bruises have healed, but heโs still out.
The front door swings open. Zachary strides inside. He laughs when he sees Julian. โHe needs to learn to take a hit. Whereโs Brianna?โ
โShower,โ Sophia mumbles through a mouthful of food.
โRight.โ He shrugs off his jacket, revealing intricate tattoos crawling up his neck. โThe Rogues know youโre here.โ He sits across from me. โOnce he wakes, youโre leaving.โ
His eyes dart toward the stairs. He lowers his voice. โTake Brianna with you.โ
โShe doesnโt want that. She doesnโt want pack life.โ
โHeโs right!โ Brianna descends the stairs, fresh clothes on, blonde hair tied back. โThis is my home. And Iโm not leaving without you, Zachary.โ
โI have to stay. Keep the other Rogues in line. You donโt belong here anymore.โ
โThis is my home!โ Rage flashes in her eyes, but it softens under his steady gaze. โTheyโre getting restless, arenโt they?โ
He nods grimly. โFood is scarce. That one wolf wonโt feed them all. Theyโre turning on each other. Three died last week.โ
โReally?โ Brianna whispers, sinking onto the couch. โWhy didnโt you tell me?โ
โDidnโt want to worry you. Theyโre close to turning on us.โ
โYouโre going to kill them?โ I ask.
Zachary nods. โIt has to be done.โ
โThis was supposed to be their safe haven. After what she did to us,โ Brianna says bitterly.
โIt was, once.โ He moves to her side. โGo with the Wolf. See the female Lycan. Apologize. If I survive, Iโll find you. If not, youโll need help stopping the Rogues.โ
