Chapter 0136

I gesture toward Nathan.

Zachary moves swiftly, yanking him upright from the ground. His teeth sink deep into Nathanโ€™s throat, tearing it out effortlessly. He tosses the body aside like trash, spitting out the flesh. โ€œThe Rogues will collect him later.โ€

Zacharyโ€™s gaze lands on Sophia, whoโ€™s clinging to me. โ€œVictoria turned someone this young?โ€

I nod. โ€œOld enough to shift, though.โ€

โ€œShe deserved a bullet.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s already dead,โ€ I reply.

โ€œYou killed her?โ€

โ€œNo. My mate. She ripped her heart out.โ€

He lets out a dark chuckle. โ€œSmart woman.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s the Alpha,โ€ Sophia whispers against my chest.

Zacharyโ€™s head snaps up, eyes scanning the cornfield. โ€œYou need to go. Theyโ€™ve caught the scent of blood.โ€ His attention shifts to Brianna. โ€œTake them to the house. Iโ€™ll meet you.โ€ He presses a kiss to her forehead before vanishing into the stalks.

โ€œSophia, go with Brianna. Iโ€™ve got Julian.โ€

I haul my brother over my shoulder. Zachary must have hit him hard to keep him unconscious this long.

By the time we reach the car, heโ€™s starting to stir. โ€œSophia,โ€ he slurs.

โ€œSheโ€™s safe. Youโ€™ll see her soon,โ€ I mutter just as he passes out again.

โ€œHurry!โ€ Brianna shouts. โ€œIf they pick up your scent, I canโ€™t hold them back.โ€

The car peels away the second I shut the door. Instead of turning back, Brianna drives farther north.

โ€œHe said take us to the house!โ€ I snap.

โ€œI heard him. He didnโ€™t mean that dump you were hiding in.โ€

Sophia twists in her seat to look at me. Her blue eyes are wide with fear. โ€œHe kidnapped me! Alpha Nathan took me!โ€

โ€œI know. Iโ€™m sorry. We were so focused on protecting Athenaโ€ฆ I never thought youโ€™d be targeted.โ€

โ€œWhy me? I didnโ€™t do anything.โ€

โ€œHe took you for his brother.โ€

โ€œAlpha Ethan?โ€

I nod.

Her gaze falls on Julian. โ€œHe really came for me?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m still not accepting his rejection.โ€

โ€œThen donโ€™t. Maybe itโ€™s time he learns he canโ€™t always have his way. But these past two days showed me somethingโ€”he does care. And heโ€™ll wait.โ€

A small smile touches her lips. She turns back around, settling into her seat.

Brianna pulls up to a neat, well-kept houseโ€”nothing like the last place. Flower boxes line the windowsills. A white picket fence borders the garden.

โ€œThis is where you actually live?โ€

โ€œThe other spot was a base. This is home. Just because Iโ€™m a beast doesnโ€™t mean I canโ€™t appreciate nice things. Make yourselves comfortable. I need a shower.โ€

Sophia beelines for the fridge, muttering about starvation. I dump Julian on the sofa. His bruises have healed, but heโ€™s still out.

The front door swings open. Zachary strides inside. He laughs when he sees Julian. โ€œHe needs to learn to take a hit. Whereโ€™s Brianna?โ€

โ€œShower,โ€ Sophia mumbles through a mouthful of food.

โ€œRight.โ€ He shrugs off his jacket, revealing intricate tattoos crawling up his neck. โ€œThe Rogues know youโ€™re here.โ€ He sits across from me. โ€œOnce he wakes, youโ€™re leaving.โ€

His eyes dart toward the stairs. He lowers his voice. โ€œTake Brianna with you.โ€

โ€œShe doesnโ€™t want that. She doesnโ€™t want pack life.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s right!โ€ Brianna descends the stairs, fresh clothes on, blonde hair tied back. โ€œThis is my home. And Iโ€™m not leaving without you, Zachary.โ€

โ€œI have to stay. Keep the other Rogues in line. You donโ€™t belong here anymore.โ€

โ€œThis is my home!โ€ Rage flashes in her eyes, but it softens under his steady gaze. โ€œTheyโ€™re getting restless, arenโ€™t they?โ€

He nods grimly. โ€œFood is scarce. That one wolf wonโ€™t feed them all. Theyโ€™re turning on each other. Three died last week.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ Brianna whispers, sinking onto the couch. โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you tell me?โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t want to worry you. Theyโ€™re close to turning on us.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re going to kill them?โ€ I ask.

Zachary nods. โ€œIt has to be done.โ€

โ€œThis was supposed to be their safe haven. After what she did to us,โ€ Brianna says bitterly.

โ€œIt was, once.โ€ He moves to her side. โ€œGo with the Wolf. See the female Lycan. Apologize. If I survive, Iโ€™ll find you. If not, youโ€™ll need help stopping the Rogues.โ€
