Chapter 0297

A cold shudder runs through me.

The last time I was surrounded by this many Lycans, I was hunting Seraphina.

My instincts are screaming.

Hunting is in my blood.

Not slaughtering this breed is harder than I expected.

Especially when theyโ€™re so available.

Tension thickens as the Lycans notice my return.

But so far, none show hostility.

Their souls are clear.

Itโ€™s almost irritating.

Even Seraphinaโ€™s family radiates purity.

โ€œShould I go to her?โ€ Alexander asks as I approach.

โ€œZachary is with her.โ€

His eyebrows lift. โ€œYou used his actual name.โ€

He scans the crowd. โ€œAre we clear here?โ€

โ€œAnnoyingly, yes.โ€

โ€œGood.โ€ He turns toward the people.

I see his hesitation before he delivers Athenaโ€™s message.

โ€œAthena has stated that if you do not wish to help, you are free to leave. No judgment. Those who stay, follow me to your temporary quarters.โ€

The past few days, the Wolves cleared trees and built log cabins beside the pack.

I told them it was a stupid idea.

But the order came from Athena.

I didnโ€™t argue.

Whispers travel among the adults.

Caleb steps forward. โ€œWe are in agreement.โ€ He glances at his mate, Zoe, who nods. โ€œSeraphina must be stopped.โ€

Blondie and surfer boy lead them toward the cabins.

Alexander stays with me. โ€œI feel what I feel for Athena. But I need the truth. How bad is it?โ€

โ€œCatastrophically bad.โ€ I keep my voice steady.

His face tightens.

I explain what I saw.

The darkness seeping through old trauma cracks.

โ€œI thought she had more control over her Lycan. But the unconnected cracks are holding it back.โ€

โ€œZachary and Briannaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThey donโ€™t have cracks like Athena. Small ones from their human past, yes. But nothing like hers. Nyx is exploiting those fractures. At first, I thought she was trying to overtake Athena. Now I believe sheโ€™s trying to fill them. Make them whole. Claim them.โ€

โ€œEmbed the darkness inside her.โ€

โ€œExactly. But Athena made a request. One I canโ€™t answer.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œShe asked if her Lycan could be bound.โ€

His crimson eyes widen. Then narrow to slits. โ€œThat would kill her.โ€

โ€œIt still might. Sheโ€™s endured enough.โ€

โ€œI know Lycans. Iโ€™ve hunted them most of my life. I can see and read souls. But I canโ€™t see those who arenโ€™t present. What I can do is dig.โ€

โ€œYou should speak to Theodore. Heโ€™s skilled at uncovering information.โ€

โ€œPerfect. Iโ€™ll find him.โ€

โ€œAnd donโ€™t call him surfer boy. Unless you want that punch youโ€™ve been waiting for.โ€
