Chapter 0488

Luc

"Hey, you!"

A woman with jet-black hair sprinted toward me. I halted, releasing a heavy sigh. I was supposed to be having dinner with Hannah right now.

"Yes?" She was that stray who returned with the others. A walking bundle of lies.

"Can you help me?"

"Depends." I muttered.

"On what?" She raised an eyebrow.

"What do you want?"

"Can you help me get out of here?" She pleaded.

"Yes."

She stared at me blankly. "Will you help me get out of here?"

"No."

My refusal clearly shocked her. "Why?"

"Athena has questions. I believe Alexander does too."

"So I'm not allowed to leave?" She scoffed, narrowing her golden eyes. I remained silent. The answer was obvious.

"This place is insane." She muttered.

"Not as insane as you running from your problems." I smiled. She glared back.

"Have you spoken to Theodore or that bitch at my mate's house?"

"No."

"Then how did you know... Do you see things like that kid?"

"I assume you mean Charlotte. Charlotte is my daughter."

She stepped back, eyes locked on me. "Two Dads. You're the other Dad."

"That's what she prefers, yes. I take it you don't like him having someone call him Daddy? I somewhat agree, but my daughter is happy. She's with him now?"

"When I left, yes. That bitch was there too."

"Calling someone a bitch doesn't tell me who you mean." I muttered.

"Evelyn."

"Excuse me?"

She shook her head, lowering her gaze. Completely unaware of my rising anger.

"I went to talk with him and Evelyn was already there." Her face twisted. "Parading around in his clothes. I could smell her scent on him, but he denies it. He's supposed to be my mate. Mine!"

"First, if he slept with her after knowing you're his mate, you'd probably be dead. Second, the clothes could be because she was a prisoner with nothing else, and she did help kill her brother. Third, Zachary isn't like that."

"Like what?"

"Not someone who jumps into bed with everyone. And I can see you've already taken the time to get to know him." I said sarcastically.

I stretched. Her eyes caught the gun in my belt. "Why do you have that?"

"Just in case I need to put someone down. Or maybe," I moved swiftly, pulling it out and pressing it against her temple, "I use it as a warning to liars."

She froze. "What are you doing?" Her eyes shifted sideways, focusing on the gun. "Please don't kill me."

"Why are you running from your pack?"

"It's dangerous."

"Bullshit."

"I swear."

"What story did you tell Theodore?"

"The truth."

"You lie."

I watched the lump form in her throat. Everyone I've held a gun to did that except Hannah. She was ready to die.

"It's the truth." The woman spluttered.

"No, it's not. It's a story you cooked up. One you think will tug at heartstrings. You sucked Theodore in. I see it. You're full of lies, weaving your own web of shit. What did you tell him? Must have been good to make him pity you."

"I swear."

"You keep saying that, but you're not actually telling me what you said to him."

"Daddy?" I turned. Charlotte stood there, holding Evelyn's hand. Evelyn's grey eyes darted between me, Jasmine, and the gun.

"I can tell you what Jasmine told us." Evelyn said.

"Bitch, you better keep your mouth shut." Jasmine yelled.

I pushed the gun harder against her temple. "Now now, that's not your choice."

"I don't want anyone else to know."

"Then you shouldn't have told them. Or is it because if others know your lie, it's harder to cover up?" I smiled. "Charlotte, cover your ears. I don't want you to hear this. What did she say, Evelyn? Don't leave out any details."

I listened as Evelyn recounted how this Jasmine allegedly had an abortion because of an Alpha. How he found out and she'd been running from him until she met Levi. Evelyn told me other things. How Jasmine was tied up. How Jasmine said she didn't want to come, but that was before she told the lie. How she was from Crestwood city, but they had recently changed their name.
