Chapter 0120
"How long have you known?"
Silence.
I pressed him again. "How long?"
"Since the day she appeared. She's just a kid. Started following me around a few days ago. I figure her wolf is beginning to settle into her body." His gaze sharpened. "I'm rejecting her. I won't wait until she's eighteen. I could be dead by then."
"That's why you were explaining the bond. Preparing her."
He gave a single nod. "You think I'm an asshole, but I do care about some things. That girl has suffered enough. A rejection might shatter her."
Hearing this side of him was strange. Softer. It proved he wasn't a complete idiot.
"You walked in right as I was about to do it."
"Make sure she has someone with her when you reject her. She'll need the support."
"Fine."
"Alexander!" Ethan's voice echoed through the house. Julian rolled his eyes dramatically. He leaned out the door. "My brother is busy. What do you want?"
"Madame Zora is here."
My spine went rigid. Nyx was already whispering curses inside my mind. She hadn't even met the witch, yet she hated her for binding my powers.
Madame Zora glided in, a small bag in hand. A slow smile spread across her tanned face the moment she saw me.
"How are you feeling, Alpha Athena?"
I hated it. I hated the title from her lips.
Her eyes dropped to my stomach. Her grin widened. "Twins. How wonderful."
"You know?" Ethan frowned at her.
"I see what is necessary." She did a slow turn. "I believe Alpha Alexander wishes to see me."
"He's occupied at the moment," Julian informed her. "You can wait in his office."
"Very well." She turned her attention back to me. "I would enjoy your company."
Julian caught my wrist. "You don't have to if you're uncomfortable."
I stared at the witch. She knew about the twins. Maybe she knew more. "I'm fine," I muttered, pulling my arm free. If she tried anything, I would end her.
The men watched me lead the way to the office. Madame Zora followed too closely. I made a point of sitting in Alexander's chair, behind the desk, facing her and the door. This was my territory now.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, settling herself comfortably.
I ignored her question. "You said you see what's necessary. Where are Dominic and Victoria?"
"Waiting."
"Where?"
"That, I'm afraid, is something I cannot be certain of."
Annoyance flared within me.
"I believe I am here to check on you," she said, studying my face.
"That isn't needed."
"I know. You have it all handled." She smiled faintly. "You know, when I first met you, I knew you were different. A special little pup. Just like the ones growing inside you."
"Are they Lycans?"
She smiled again. "Lycans are a dying breed. Even those who were turned cannot produce Lycan offspring."
"Are they Wolves, like Alexander?"
"Is that what you want, Alpha Athena?"
"I want you to answer my questions."
"As much as I would like to give you the answers you seek, I cannot."
"You mean you won't." I sighed and shook my head. "Why did you even come here?"
"I owe Alpha Ethan. And I wanted one last look at you as the Lycan Alpha."
