Chapter 0080

Alexander

โ€œDamn it, damn it, damn it!โ€ Isabella panics, desperately rummaging through cabinets, pulling out various small containers, searching frantically.

โ€œAthena, breathe.โ€ I plead. Her agony was palpable. I could feel her fading away from me.

She releases a terrifying gasp. Blood sprays across me as more begins to drip from her nose.

โ€˜I canโ€™t find it! Where is it?โ€ Isabella cries out desperately.

โ€œIsabella,โ€ My voice drops to a whisper. โ€œIsabella, weโ€™re out of options.โ€

โ€œI know itโ€™s here, where did I put it?โ€ Isabella sobs while tearing through another cabinet.

It had been years since I witnessed Isabella break down like this. The raw fear, the panic, the terrifying unknown. She hadnโ€™t reacted this severely when Gabriel rejected her. In truth, she hadnโ€™t been this distraught since our parentsโ€™ tragic deaths.

โ€œIsabella, stop this!โ€

โ€œNo, itโ€™s here somewhere, we still have time!โ€

Athenaโ€™s racing heartbeat had slowed dramatically. It was barely detectable now, her breaths becoming dangerously shallow. She was suffering excruciating pain, blood now seeping from the corners of her eyes.

โ€œFOUND IT!โ€ Isabella spins around and plunges a large syringe directly into Athenaโ€™s heart.

Her heart stops completely.

โ€œWhat the hell did you just do?โ€ I snarl at my sister.

โ€˜Itโ€™s the antidote!

โ€œThere is no antidote for Wolfsbane Toxin!

โ€œI paid a Witch in the city to help me develop it.โ€ Heavy tears stream down her cheeks. โ€œAfter you both were nearly poisoned, I had to find a solution. It has to work. It must work!โ€

I stare at my sister in disbelief. An antidote was unheard of, especially for Wolfsbane Toxin. If such a thing existed, every Wolf pack would keep it stocked.

โ€˜Listen.โ€™ Titan murmurs.

Her heart gradually begins beating again. Faint, but undoubtedly beating. Athenaโ€™s lungs start filling properly as she draws in oxygen. She coughs weakly, bringing up less blood than before.

Isabella maintains her distance, too afraid to approach closer. โ€œShe needs complete rest now.โ€ She mumbles, avoiding eye contact.

โ€œWhy would he do this? He spent all his time educating us about Lycans, begging me to protect his sister. Why would he betray us like this?โ€ I mutter, more to myself than Isabella.

โ€œWhere is he now?

โ€œWith Sebastian, theyโ€™re heading to the city to track Dominic and that treacherous female.

โ€˜I donโ€™t know him well, but hasnโ€™t he been imprisoned for ages? He wouldnโ€™t have access to any of this. Caleb mentioned he grabbed her wrist, but she wasnโ€™t injected there.โ€ Isabella moves to another cabinet, retrieving cleaning wipes. She approaches Athena cautiously, โ€œMay I?โ€

I nod permission and she begins wiping blood from Athenaโ€™s face as it finally stops flowing. โ€œThat was pure Wolfsbane Toxin, not leaves that had been marinating. That came fresh from the stem, Iโ€™m certain you told me it has limited potency this way. It must be used immediately.โ€

She was absolutely right, I had told her that.

โ€œThis doesnโ€™t make sense. Who else has she encountered recently?โ€ Isabella questions.

โ€œSebastian, Theodore. Damn!

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œGenevieve, she saw us leaving the dungeons. She deliberately collided with Athena.

โ€œNo, surely she wouldnโ€™t go this far. Surely.....Actually, I donโ€™t know why Iโ€™m even attempting to defend her.

โ€œDoes anyone else know about the antidote?โ€ I ask.

โ€œNo, well, only you now.โ€ She gently combs Athenaโ€™s hair back, carefully wiping away the blood.

โ€œKeep it that way.โ€

Isabella glares at me, her eyes widening in realization. โ€œYouโ€™re going to let Genevieve believe she succeeded?โ€

โ€œWell that was her intention, wasnโ€™t it? I might as well let her think her plan worked.โ€

โ€œI assume youโ€™re....โ€

โ€œAbsolutely. She wonโ€™t survive another night.โ€

Placing my hand against Athenaโ€™s forehead, I feel her fever subsiding. I desperately want to stay with her, but this cannot wait.

โ€œDonโ€™t allow anyone inside and absolutely do not speak to anyone.โ€ I instruct Isabella.

Exiting the hospital, I mentally link several pack members as I cross the grounds to where Genevieve had conveniently intercepted us. There was nothing on the ground, nothing concealed in the snow, but she already knew dropping evidence would be a fatal mistake.
