Chapter 0067

โ€œI believe their fear isnโ€™t directed at her personally. They fear what she might become.โ€

โ€œEspecially Dominic and Victoria?โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™re the only leaders left standing. What do you think?โ€

โ€œWhat would Dominic want Athena to remember?โ€

He stood up, moving close until only the bars separated us. โ€œWhat are you implying?โ€

โ€œWhat does Athena need to be reminded of?โ€

He raised an eyebrow. โ€œI donโ€™t understand your question, Alpha Alexander. Is she in danger again? You must release me. I need to help her.โ€

โ€œShe is my mate.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m aware. But sheโ€™s surrounded by Wolves. She needs someone of her own kind. Someone who understands what it means to be like us.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve discussed this. Itโ€™s her decision.โ€

โ€œShe doesnโ€™t know youโ€™re here, does she, Alpha Alexander? All these late-night visits while she remains unaware as you try to unravel her past.โ€

โ€œLate-night visits? Iโ€™ve only been down here a few times since your arrival.โ€

โ€œYour friend Sebastian visits often. I think heโ€™s having relationship troubles.โ€

โ€œWhy would Sebastian discuss his mate with you?โ€

โ€œSometimes an outside perspective helps.โ€ He shrugged.

โ€œDo you talk about Athena?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œWhat do you discuss?โ€

โ€œLike I said, his problems. In return for listening, he brings me things.โ€ He gestured toward the cell, now stocked with soda, clothes, and books. I needed to speak with Sebastian. He never mentioned any of this.

Caleb gripped the bars. โ€œI swear to you, Alpha Alexander, I mean her no harm. You have the authority to release me. You donโ€™t need to wait for my sisterโ€™s approval.โ€

I still donโ€™t trust him. Titan growled.

โ€œWhy would Dominic and Victoria go into the city?โ€ I ignored both Titan and Calebโ€™s pleas.

โ€œIโ€™m not following.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™ve always kept to themselves. Hidden from other packs. None of us knew your kind existed. Now theyโ€™re venturing into neutral territory. Why would they do that?โ€

โ€œProbably for the same reason anyone goes there. Theyโ€™re searching for something. Or someone. Athena encountered them, didnโ€™t she?โ€

โ€œSebastian got her out.โ€

Caleb grinned. โ€œThe hero. I knew he was a good man.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s not interested in men,โ€ I repeated.

โ€œAnyone can be swayed, Alpha Alexander. They just need the rightโ€ฆ incentive.โ€ He winked.

โ€œAnyway, for Dominic and that woman to enter the city, there must be a significant reason. Some kind of plan.โ€

โ€œCould they find her?โ€

โ€œNot Victoria, but possibly Dominic.โ€

โ€œBecause of their blood connection?โ€

He nodded. โ€œBut they wouldโ€™ve needed to be nearby already to sense her presence. Same as how I found Silver Creek. I told you I could feel it. The sensation grew stronger as I approached. Thatโ€™s how I knew I was heading the right way.โ€

He paced his cell, muttering to himself. Suddenly he stopped, his blue eyes locking onto mine. โ€œWho knew she was going?โ€

โ€œMy sister, her tutor, and a few other females. Obviously, Sebastian and myself.โ€

โ€œAll Wolves, correct? You donโ€™t have any other Lycans hidden here?โ€

โ€œBesides Athena. Is it possible she couldโ€™ve accidentally alerted him? Opened a link between them?โ€

โ€œUnlikely. The only other explanation is they were already there for another reason and Athena walked right into them. They wonโ€™t come here. You have the numbers.โ€

I studied him, recalling his explanation about Lycan origins. He called it a story, but what if it was true?

โ€œCaleb, can they create more?โ€
