Chapter 0164

Isabella

โ€œWait.โ€ That was too much information all at once. โ€œI have so many questions. So it wasnโ€™t just because he was your brother?โ€

โ€œIt was both.โ€ Zacharyโ€™s voice is low. โ€œEven if he wasnโ€™t my brother, I wouldโ€™ve tracked him.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t think Lycans left a scent when they shifted.โ€ I glance at Athena, whoโ€™s still staring down, a deep frown carved into her forehead. โ€œI thought you found me because of me?โ€

The moment the words leave my mouth, I regret how needy they sound. Especially in front of everyone. Titan chuckles, which doesnโ€™t help.

Zacharyโ€™s dark eyes lock on mine. I fight the heat rising up my neck.

โ€œOf course we have a scent. Itโ€™s faint, but itโ€™s there.โ€ Zachary replies.

โ€œFaint?โ€ Alexander cuts in.

โ€œWhat else do you want me to say, Alexander? Would you have preferred I couldnโ€™t scent my own brother?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what Iโ€™m saying.โ€ Alexander snaps back.

โ€œAlpha Athena, tell them. Confirm that Lycans carry a scent even in shifted form.โ€ Zachary looks to her for backup, but Athena is just staring at her stomach.

He nudges her gently. She looks up, blinking slowly as if pulling herself back into the conversation. โ€œI canโ€™t smell them. Why didnโ€™t anyone tell me I was carrying Lycans?โ€

Zachary tilts his head. โ€œI assumed you knew.โ€

Athena opens her mouth to speak, but no words come out. Instead, she stands abruptly and rushes from the room. Alexander is right behind her.

โ€œTo us, they smell like Wolves, but only in human form.โ€ Sebastian explains. โ€œWhen they shift, the scent vanishes.โ€

โ€œAnd the Alpha? Is what she said true?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€ Theodore confirms.

โ€œShe tracked me through the forest better than you or Alexander.โ€ Zachary gestures toward Theodore. โ€œShe had to have known.โ€

Sebastian shakes his head. โ€œShe described it as a feelingโ€”her legs carrying her without conscious thought. Not scent. Though she can scent you now, since youโ€™ve pledged loyalty to her.โ€

โ€˜We really need to ask him about that.โ€™ Titan murmurs inside me.

โ€œAnd Sophia.โ€ Theodore adds. โ€œShe can scent Sophia, too.โ€

โ€œI tried researching it.โ€ Theodore says quietly. โ€œThereโ€™s very little documented about your kind. Weโ€™re learning as we go.โ€

โ€œCould it be related to her pastโ€ฆ being bound?โ€ I ask.

โ€œPossibly.โ€ Theodore replies. โ€œMaybe not all of her abilities have fully surfaced yet.โ€

โ€œAbilities?โ€ Zacharyโ€™s interest sharpens.

โ€œShe can partially shift.โ€ Sebastian tells him.

I watch Zacharyโ€™s eyes widen in surprise. โ€œThatโ€™s new.โ€

โ€œIt did take a while for Nyx to show herself.โ€ I add.

โ€œWho is Nyx?โ€ Zachary looks between us, clearly missing context.

โ€œAthenaโ€™s Lycan spirit.โ€ I frown. I thought he wouldโ€™ve known this already. But then again, he was turned. Everything he knows, he learned. Just like Athena.

Sebastian explains it to him. Zachary nods slowly, absorbing the information.

โ€œSo all Alphas have this?โ€ He asks.

โ€œNo. Only those born directly into the bloodline. So Alexander, me, and Julian in this pack.โ€ I tell him. โ€œAnd Athena, obviously.โ€

โ€œThat explains who you were speaking with in the forest. What about the traitor in the dungeon? Does he have an inner spirit?โ€

โ€œNo. His father took over as Alpha years ago but wasnโ€™t blood-related to the original Alpha.โ€

โ€œBut you wonโ€™t become an Alpha? Neither will Julian?โ€

โ€œJulian and I have a different mother than Alexander. The gene still passed to us. And Iโ€™m glad I wonโ€™t be Alpha. I donโ€™t want that responsibility.โ€

โ€œEveryone, as fascinating as this is, weโ€™re getting off track.โ€ Sebastian interjects sharply.

Zachary leans back in his chair. His dark eyes havenโ€™t left me, a faint smile playing on his lips. Why is it that every time he learns something new about me, weโ€™re surrounded by other people? He could say how he truly feels. But he doesnโ€™t. Itโ€™s as if his words are meant for my ears only.
