Chapter 0164
Isabella
โWait.โ That was too much information all at once. โI have so many questions. So it wasnโt just because he was your brother?โ
โIt was both.โ Zacharyโs voice is low. โEven if he wasnโt my brother, I wouldโve tracked him.โ
โI didnโt think Lycans left a scent when they shifted.โ I glance at Athena, whoโs still staring down, a deep frown carved into her forehead. โI thought you found me because of me?โ
The moment the words leave my mouth, I regret how needy they sound. Especially in front of everyone. Titan chuckles, which doesnโt help.
Zacharyโs dark eyes lock on mine. I fight the heat rising up my neck.
โOf course we have a scent. Itโs faint, but itโs there.โ Zachary replies.
โFaint?โ Alexander cuts in.
โWhat else do you want me to say, Alexander? Would you have preferred I couldnโt scent my own brother?โ
โThatโs not what Iโm saying.โ Alexander snaps back.
โAlpha Athena, tell them. Confirm that Lycans carry a scent even in shifted form.โ Zachary looks to her for backup, but Athena is just staring at her stomach.
He nudges her gently. She looks up, blinking slowly as if pulling herself back into the conversation. โI canโt smell them. Why didnโt anyone tell me I was carrying Lycans?โ
Zachary tilts his head. โI assumed you knew.โ
Athena opens her mouth to speak, but no words come out. Instead, she stands abruptly and rushes from the room. Alexander is right behind her.
โTo us, they smell like Wolves, but only in human form.โ Sebastian explains. โWhen they shift, the scent vanishes.โ
โAnd the Alpha? Is what she said true?โ
โYes.โ Theodore confirms.
โShe tracked me through the forest better than you or Alexander.โ Zachary gestures toward Theodore. โShe had to have known.โ
Sebastian shakes his head. โShe described it as a feelingโher legs carrying her without conscious thought. Not scent. Though she can scent you now, since youโve pledged loyalty to her.โ
โWe really need to ask him about that.โ Titan murmurs inside me.
โAnd Sophia.โ Theodore adds. โShe can scent Sophia, too.โ
โI tried researching it.โ Theodore says quietly. โThereโs very little documented about your kind. Weโre learning as we go.โ
โCould it be related to her pastโฆ being bound?โ I ask.
โPossibly.โ Theodore replies. โMaybe not all of her abilities have fully surfaced yet.โ
โAbilities?โ Zacharyโs interest sharpens.
โShe can partially shift.โ Sebastian tells him.
I watch Zacharyโs eyes widen in surprise. โThatโs new.โ
โIt did take a while for Nyx to show herself.โ I add.
โWho is Nyx?โ Zachary looks between us, clearly missing context.
โAthenaโs Lycan spirit.โ I frown. I thought he wouldโve known this already. But then again, he was turned. Everything he knows, he learned. Just like Athena.
Sebastian explains it to him. Zachary nods slowly, absorbing the information.
โSo all Alphas have this?โ He asks.
โNo. Only those born directly into the bloodline. So Alexander, me, and Julian in this pack.โ I tell him. โAnd Athena, obviously.โ
โThat explains who you were speaking with in the forest. What about the traitor in the dungeon? Does he have an inner spirit?โ
โNo. His father took over as Alpha years ago but wasnโt blood-related to the original Alpha.โ
โBut you wonโt become an Alpha? Neither will Julian?โ
โJulian and I have a different mother than Alexander. The gene still passed to us. And Iโm glad I wonโt be Alpha. I donโt want that responsibility.โ
โEveryone, as fascinating as this is, weโre getting off track.โ Sebastian interjects sharply.
Zachary leans back in his chair. His dark eyes havenโt left me, a faint smile playing on his lips. Why is it that every time he learns something new about me, weโre surrounded by other people? He could say how he truly feels. But he doesnโt. Itโs as if his words are meant for my ears only.
