Chapter 0118
โExplain it to me.โ Ethan demanded, his gaze fixed on Athena. โYouโre the true Alpha of Silver Creek. So why wonโt they submit? I can feel your power. Itโs immense.โ
The allied Alphas had been here two days, and this topic kept resurfacing. Especially with Ethan. He was fascinated by the concept of a female Alpha. He always found a way to linger nearby, asking the same questions, hoping for new answers.
โThey donโt believe a female can lead.โ Athena replied, her patience thinning.
โYet theyโre desperate to claim you.โ He leaned against the wall, studying her. โTheyโre creating unstable, arrogant pups who canโt control themselves, just to get to you.โ
She rested her forehead on the desk, exhausted. โThey want me because I can produce more Lycan Alphas for them.โ
โThe two leading this campaignโthe male is her uncle.โ I interjected. โThe female is his mate. We believe theyโre infertile. Thatโs why they kept Athena alive.โ
โSo you decided to get her pregnant?โ Ethan raised an eyebrow at me.
โI did.โ
โThatโs reckless. What if they try to keep one of the twins? You must see the flaw in that plan. I know you, Alexander. I know you have one of the best strategists in your pack. Was this his idea or yours?โ
โDoes it matter? Youโre here to protect them.โ
โYouโre playing a dangerous game. Youโre risking all our packs.โ
โFool.โ Titan growled inwardly. He despised how Athena was being interrogated. He hated that our word wasnโt enough for these Alphas. He was growing desperate to take control.
I straightened, my voice dropping to a warning tone. โItโs the least you can do, Ethan. Especially after what we did for you.โ
He caught the threat in my words.
โAre you trying to lure them out? Is that the plan?โ
โYes. Though itโs been quiet since she killed one.โ
He glanced at Athena. โShe doesnโt look like much. She really killed one?โ
โTwo.โ I said with a faint smile. โShe used her claws to rip out the first oneโs heart. The second, she pierced its heart.โ
I followed his gaze. Athenaโs eyes were closed, her cheek resting on my desk. Worry gnawed at me. She hadnโt eaten in days. Even water was hard to keep down. Others had noticed too. I shut down their questions immediately.
I decided to give her a few more hours. If she didnโt improve, I was taking her back to the hospital.
โInsane.โ Ethan muttered, for what felt like the hundredth time. โTheyโd have a better chance if they just accepted their true Alpha.โ
โI know. You know. But they think they know better.โ
โThatโs why theyโre dying out.โ
Ethan chuckled. โNo offense.โ He smiled at Athena, then frowned. โIs she asleep? You know thatโs not normal, right?โ
I checked on her. I moved her from the desk chair to the sofa. She didnโt stir. Completely unconscious.
โYou should have her examined.โ
โIsabella says itโs normal early pregnancy symptoms.โ
โWe both know this isnโt normal.โ Ethan raised an eyebrow.
โSheโs a Lycan. None of us know whatโs normal for them. They lied to her her whole life. She doesnโt even know.โ
โWhat about that witch you consult? Maybe she has some insight.โ
โMadame Zora? She hasnโt been seen lately. No one has left pack grounds.โ
โSheโs in my city.โ
โWhat? Why?โ
โLong story. I can call her. But we both know she doesnโt come cheap.โ
โCall her.โ
He pulled a phone from his pocket and held it to his ear. I heard her the moment she answered. โAlpha Ethan?โ
โYour presence is requested at Obsidian Howl.โ
A pause. A long sigh echoed through the phone before she agreed to come.
โShe answers to you?โ I asked curiously after he hung up.
โI caught her in a bind.โ He smirked. โLetโs just say I learned a thing or two from you over the years.โ
He stood and looked at my sleeping mate. His eyes lingered on her a moment too long before turning back to me. โI never thought Iโd see the day you found a mate.โ
โNeither did I. If anything happens to herโฆโ
He smiled. โOh, I know. Iโve already made that mistake once. This world will never be the same. Itโs better to be on your side than against you.โ
