Chapter 0118

โ€œExplain it to me.โ€ Ethan demanded, his gaze fixed on Athena. โ€œYouโ€™re the true Alpha of Silver Creek. So why wonโ€™t they submit? I can feel your power. Itโ€™s immense.โ€

The allied Alphas had been here two days, and this topic kept resurfacing. Especially with Ethan. He was fascinated by the concept of a female Alpha. He always found a way to linger nearby, asking the same questions, hoping for new answers.

โ€œThey donโ€™t believe a female can lead.โ€ Athena replied, her patience thinning.

โ€œYet theyโ€™re desperate to claim you.โ€ He leaned against the wall, studying her. โ€œTheyโ€™re creating unstable, arrogant pups who canโ€™t control themselves, just to get to you.โ€

She rested her forehead on the desk, exhausted. โ€œThey want me because I can produce more Lycan Alphas for them.โ€

โ€œThe two leading this campaignโ€”the male is her uncle.โ€ I interjected. โ€œThe female is his mate. We believe theyโ€™re infertile. Thatโ€™s why they kept Athena alive.โ€

โ€œSo you decided to get her pregnant?โ€ Ethan raised an eyebrow at me.

โ€œI did.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s reckless. What if they try to keep one of the twins? You must see the flaw in that plan. I know you, Alexander. I know you have one of the best strategists in your pack. Was this his idea or yours?โ€

โ€œDoes it matter? Youโ€™re here to protect them.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re playing a dangerous game. Youโ€™re risking all our packs.โ€

โ€˜Fool.โ€™ Titan growled inwardly. He despised how Athena was being interrogated. He hated that our word wasnโ€™t enough for these Alphas. He was growing desperate to take control.

I straightened, my voice dropping to a warning tone. โ€œItโ€™s the least you can do, Ethan. Especially after what we did for you.โ€

He caught the threat in my words.

โ€œAre you trying to lure them out? Is that the plan?โ€

โ€œYes. Though itโ€™s been quiet since she killed one.โ€

He glanced at Athena. โ€œShe doesnโ€™t look like much. She really killed one?โ€

โ€œTwo.โ€ I said with a faint smile. โ€œShe used her claws to rip out the first oneโ€™s heart. The second, she pierced its heart.โ€

I followed his gaze. Athenaโ€™s eyes were closed, her cheek resting on my desk. Worry gnawed at me. She hadnโ€™t eaten in days. Even water was hard to keep down. Others had noticed too. I shut down their questions immediately.

I decided to give her a few more hours. If she didnโ€™t improve, I was taking her back to the hospital.

โ€œInsane.โ€ Ethan muttered, for what felt like the hundredth time. โ€œTheyโ€™d have a better chance if they just accepted their true Alpha.โ€

โ€œI know. You know. But they think they know better.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s why theyโ€™re dying out.โ€

Ethan chuckled. โ€œNo offense.โ€ He smiled at Athena, then frowned. โ€œIs she asleep? You know thatโ€™s not normal, right?โ€

I checked on her. I moved her from the desk chair to the sofa. She didnโ€™t stir. Completely unconscious.

โ€œYou should have her examined.โ€

โ€œIsabella says itโ€™s normal early pregnancy symptoms.โ€

โ€œWe both know this isnโ€™t normal.โ€ Ethan raised an eyebrow.

โ€œSheโ€™s a Lycan. None of us know whatโ€™s normal for them. They lied to her her whole life. She doesnโ€™t even know.โ€

โ€œWhat about that witch you consult? Maybe she has some insight.โ€

โ€œMadame Zora? She hasnโ€™t been seen lately. No one has left pack grounds.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s in my city.โ€

โ€œWhat? Why?โ€

โ€œLong story. I can call her. But we both know she doesnโ€™t come cheap.โ€

โ€œCall her.โ€

He pulled a phone from his pocket and held it to his ear. I heard her the moment she answered. โ€œAlpha Ethan?โ€

โ€œYour presence is requested at Obsidian Howl.โ€

A pause. A long sigh echoed through the phone before she agreed to come.

โ€œShe answers to you?โ€ I asked curiously after he hung up.

โ€œI caught her in a bind.โ€ He smirked. โ€œLetโ€™s just say I learned a thing or two from you over the years.โ€

He stood and looked at my sleeping mate. His eyes lingered on her a moment too long before turning back to me. โ€œI never thought Iโ€™d see the day you found a mate.โ€

โ€œNeither did I. If anything happens to herโ€ฆโ€

He smiled. โ€œOh, I know. Iโ€™ve already made that mistake once. This world will never be the same. Itโ€™s better to be on your side than against you.โ€
