Chapter 0077

โ€œYouโ€™re releasing him.โ€ Beta Sebastianโ€™s voice cut through the tension. I noticed the faint pink flush on his fair skin.

โ€œItโ€™s your decision,โ€ Alpha Alexander murmured to me. โ€œIf you choose to, there will be conditions he must follow.โ€

โ€œAnything!โ€ Caleb beamed, his eyes bright with desperation. โ€œIโ€™ll do absolutely anything. I need to feel the sun on my skin.โ€

Doubt clawed at me. What if this was a mistake? What if everything he said was a lie? What if the moment heโ€™s free, he leads Dominic straight to us? Iโ€™ve never been good with choices.

Stepping into the snow, Alpha Alexander took my hand. Just then, Caleb muttered about how glorious the sunlight felt.

โ€œI am never going back into a cell,โ€ Caleb declared, his hand catching mine. โ€œThank you. I swear Iโ€™ll be the brother youโ€™ve always deserved.โ€ He straightened up and faced Alpha Alexander, clearing his throat to sound more serious.

โ€œAlpha Alexander, donโ€™t mess with my sister.โ€

I saw the slight twitch at the corner of Alexanderโ€™s lips. He wasnโ€™t a man who took orders. He made his own rules.

โ€œOh come on,โ€ Caleb grinned. โ€œI had to do the brotherly thing.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll allow it this once,โ€ Alexander replied coolly. โ€œBut rememberโ€”although Athena released you, I can easily put you back. And next time, there will be no privileges.โ€

โ€œSure, sure,โ€ Caleb puffed out his cheeks and turned. โ€œSomeoneโ€™s on a mission.โ€

I followed his gaze and saw Genevieve storming toward us. Could I just have one day without her drama?

โ€œAlexander, Iโ€™ve been looking for you,โ€ she said, though her eyes were locked on Caleb.

โ€œNot now, Genevieve.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve been talking to some of the others,โ€ she continued, ignoring him.

โ€œOf course you have.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™re worried about her shifting.โ€ She pointed directly at me.

Caleb snorted.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, I donโ€™t believe weโ€™ve met,โ€ Genevieve said with a fake smile, using her arms to push her chest up. She pretended to trip, bumping into me. Caleb caught her.

โ€œYou can call me Caleb.โ€

As she stood, I thought I saw something glint in her hand. But no one reacted. Maybe I imagined it.

โ€œAre you a guest here?โ€ She twirled her hair like a schoolgirl.

โ€œYou could say that.โ€

She giggled. Could she not see we looked alike? Or was this some twisted revenge because Alexander rejected her? Was she trying to make him jealous?

Her grey eyes flicked to me. A sinister smile touched her lips before she turned back to Caleb.

โ€œHow about you and I get something to eat?โ€ She batted her eyelashes.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, but you canโ€™t give me what I want.โ€

Her mouth fell open. โ€œYou donโ€™t even know me.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s obvious who you are. The bitter ex, right? You saw a chance to annoy Athena, and it failed.โ€

โ€œYou have no idea what youโ€™re missing!โ€ Genevieve snapped, fists clenched.

โ€œOh, I do. And itโ€™s not worth it.โ€

โ€œBASTARD!โ€

โ€œGenevieve.โ€ Alpha Alexander stepped between them. โ€œYou said you spoke to others.โ€

Her eyes narrowed at me. โ€œWe want to know when sheโ€™s going to shift. We want to know if youโ€™re putting us all in danger!โ€

โ€œWho is โ€˜weโ€™?โ€

โ€œYou mean just you, Genevieve.โ€

Alexander sighed. He pulled me against him, his arm draped over my shoulders. โ€œGenevieve, you may have saved my life once, but youโ€™re running out of favors.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m only asking a question!โ€ she spluttered.

His voice dropped to a commanding tone. โ€œYou are questioning my authority.โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ She was furious, not getting her way. It made me wonder how much sheโ€™d been allowed to get away with all these years.

For a second, I wished she could live the life I had. Maybe then she wouldnโ€™t be such a bitch.
