Chapter 0355

Athena handed her a cloth.

Evelyn wrapped it tightly around her injured hand.

โ€œSo he keeps you prisoner. Where?โ€

โ€œUp north. Itโ€™s not a place meant for coming or going.โ€

โ€œThen how did you escape?โ€ Athena pressed.

โ€œI did what was necessary. I got out.โ€

I watched Athena over Evelynโ€™s shoulder. โ€œWhat about you?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆ The doors opened. I just walked out.โ€

โ€œSomeone opened them?โ€ Athena muttered. โ€œThey released you.โ€

โ€œSeems that way. But I donโ€™t know who. Or why. You might not believe me, Athena. I donโ€™t deserve your trust. Evelyn insisted we come warn you.โ€

โ€œSomeone let you out,โ€ Athena repeated. She wasnโ€™t hearing anything else Seraphina said.

โ€œYes. All the locks disengaged.โ€

Her eyes cut to me. โ€œHe did it on purpose.โ€

โ€œHe released me?โ€ Seraphina asked. โ€œWhy would he do that?โ€

โ€œTake it from meโ€”it was a test. He let you go to see where youโ€™d run. You led him straight to Obsidian Howl.โ€

โ€œHe said he wasnโ€™t interested in you,โ€ Seraphina murmured.

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t mean he isnโ€™t interested in my pack,โ€ Athena growled.

โ€œYou donโ€™t know that,โ€ Evelyn muttered. She still blocked the doorway.

โ€œYou escaped,โ€ Athena said. โ€œShe was freed.โ€ She turned to me. โ€œI need to link Alexander. I promised updates.โ€ Her gaze flicked to the women and back. โ€œDonโ€™t do anything reckless.โ€

I nodded. She walked toward the end of the drive.

โ€œYou think this is a trap?โ€ Evelyn asked.

โ€œGiven your story, itโ€™s obvious. You both lost your Lycans because of his schemes. What he did to you was cruel.โ€

โ€œYou think she deserved it?โ€ Evelyn challenged.

โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for her,โ€ I said, pointing toward Athena leaning against the dirty Porsche, โ€œIโ€™d have driven a knife through Seraphinaโ€™s heart. Maybe yours, too. But even that wouldnโ€™t be enough for what she did.โ€

Evelynโ€™s grey eyes widened with curiosity. Seraphina looked away.

โ€œI know everything,โ€ Evelyn said. โ€œShe told me every detail. But I wonโ€™t let you kill her.โ€

โ€œDo you really believe you can stop me? You said it yourselfโ€”you have no abilities left.โ€

โ€œI still know your kind.โ€

I smirked. For someone powerless, she wasnโ€™t afraid. โ€œDid you ever go Rogue?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œShe did.โ€ I pointed at Seraphina.

โ€œI know.โ€

I raised a brow. โ€œThat doesnโ€™t bother you?โ€

โ€œDo you see a Rogue standing behind me?โ€ she spat.

Athena returned. โ€œZachary is doing a head count. Making sure everyone else is safe.โ€

โ€œWhat do you want from us?โ€ Evelyn asked.

โ€œWhere did he take them?โ€ Athena demanded.

โ€œNowhere near here. But if he sees potential threats, he wonโ€™t go far. Just far enough that he thinks you canโ€™t find him.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve barely spoken,โ€ Athena glared at Seraphina.

โ€œAnything I say will be wrong.โ€ She muttered and shifted out of sight.

She wasnโ€™t the same as before. Almost sorrowful. But it didnโ€™t make her trustworthy. And I was no closer to finding Hannah.

I turned to Athena. โ€œWe should go. We got all weโ€™re getting.โ€

She looked between me and Evelyn. โ€œAre you sure thereโ€™s nothing else?โ€

โ€œNo, I donโ€™tโ€ฆโ€ She trailed off, frowning. โ€œI already told you he tricks us. Makes us believe heโ€™s our true mate.โ€

Athena opened her mouth. I shook my head. They didnโ€™t need to know the taken woman was mated to me. If they hid anything, Iโ€™d find out.

She turned to leave.

Then spun back suddenly. She forced the door open. Evelyn jumped back, startled.

Seraphina stood at the far end of the room. She was tying a blue scarf over her head. Trying to hide her short, fuzzy hair.

She froze. Maybe she felt death was coming.

โ€œEveryone wants you dead, Seraphina. You betrayed so many. But Evelyn is right. Losing your abilities is a better punishment. Death is too good for you. Too easy,โ€ Athena declared.

โ€œThatโ€™s not fair!โ€ Evelyn cried. โ€œWe came to warn you!โ€

โ€œShe never wanted to come back. She knew the risk. She came because of you. Youโ€™re her only ally,โ€ I said.

โ€œYouโ€™re wrong. Being like this changes everything. And if Cooper thinks weโ€™re badโ€ฆ What will he make of you? A Hunter?โ€
