Chapter 0355
Athena handed her a cloth.
Evelyn wrapped it tightly around her injured hand.
โSo he keeps you prisoner. Where?โ
โUp north. Itโs not a place meant for coming or going.โ
โThen how did you escape?โ Athena pressed.
โI did what was necessary. I got out.โ
I watched Athena over Evelynโs shoulder. โWhat about you?โ
โIโฆ The doors opened. I just walked out.โ
โSomeone opened them?โ Athena muttered. โThey released you.โ
โSeems that way. But I donโt know who. Or why. You might not believe me, Athena. I donโt deserve your trust. Evelyn insisted we come warn you.โ
โSomeone let you out,โ Athena repeated. She wasnโt hearing anything else Seraphina said.
โYes. All the locks disengaged.โ
Her eyes cut to me. โHe did it on purpose.โ
โHe released me?โ Seraphina asked. โWhy would he do that?โ
โTake it from meโit was a test. He let you go to see where youโd run. You led him straight to Obsidian Howl.โ
โHe said he wasnโt interested in you,โ Seraphina murmured.
โThat doesnโt mean he isnโt interested in my pack,โ Athena growled.
โYou donโt know that,โ Evelyn muttered. She still blocked the doorway.
โYou escaped,โ Athena said. โShe was freed.โ She turned to me. โI need to link Alexander. I promised updates.โ Her gaze flicked to the women and back. โDonโt do anything reckless.โ
I nodded. She walked toward the end of the drive.
โYou think this is a trap?โ Evelyn asked.
โGiven your story, itโs obvious. You both lost your Lycans because of his schemes. What he did to you was cruel.โ
โYou think she deserved it?โ Evelyn challenged.
โIf it werenโt for her,โ I said, pointing toward Athena leaning against the dirty Porsche, โIโd have driven a knife through Seraphinaโs heart. Maybe yours, too. But even that wouldnโt be enough for what she did.โ
Evelynโs grey eyes widened with curiosity. Seraphina looked away.
โI know everything,โ Evelyn said. โShe told me every detail. But I wonโt let you kill her.โ
โDo you really believe you can stop me? You said it yourselfโyou have no abilities left.โ
โI still know your kind.โ
I smirked. For someone powerless, she wasnโt afraid. โDid you ever go Rogue?โ
โNo.โ
โShe did.โ I pointed at Seraphina.
โI know.โ
I raised a brow. โThat doesnโt bother you?โ
โDo you see a Rogue standing behind me?โ she spat.
Athena returned. โZachary is doing a head count. Making sure everyone else is safe.โ
โWhat do you want from us?โ Evelyn asked.
โWhere did he take them?โ Athena demanded.
โNowhere near here. But if he sees potential threats, he wonโt go far. Just far enough that he thinks you canโt find him.โ
โYouโve barely spoken,โ Athena glared at Seraphina.
โAnything I say will be wrong.โ She muttered and shifted out of sight.
She wasnโt the same as before. Almost sorrowful. But it didnโt make her trustworthy. And I was no closer to finding Hannah.
I turned to Athena. โWe should go. We got all weโre getting.โ
She looked between me and Evelyn. โAre you sure thereโs nothing else?โ
โNo, I donโtโฆโ She trailed off, frowning. โI already told you he tricks us. Makes us believe heโs our true mate.โ
Athena opened her mouth. I shook my head. They didnโt need to know the taken woman was mated to me. If they hid anything, Iโd find out.
She turned to leave.
Then spun back suddenly. She forced the door open. Evelyn jumped back, startled.
Seraphina stood at the far end of the room. She was tying a blue scarf over her head. Trying to hide her short, fuzzy hair.
She froze. Maybe she felt death was coming.
โEveryone wants you dead, Seraphina. You betrayed so many. But Evelyn is right. Losing your abilities is a better punishment. Death is too good for you. Too easy,โ Athena declared.
โThatโs not fair!โ Evelyn cried. โWe came to warn you!โ
โShe never wanted to come back. She knew the risk. She came because of you. Youโre her only ally,โ I said.
โYouโre wrong. Being like this changes everything. And if Cooper thinks weโre badโฆ What will he make of you? A Hunter?โ
