Chapter 0046
Athena
โEnough!โ Alpha Alexanderโs voice cuts through the tension. His crimson gaze burns into me, even as he addresses Caleb.
โDonโt you want justice?โ Calebโs question hangs in the air. โFor everything they did to you?โ
โI said thatโs enough.โ Alpha Alexanderโs eyes shift, pinning Caleb in place. โNot another word. Athena has made her choice.โ
โIโm only stating facts. The pack is rightfully hers. She could claim it. Take her place as Alpha of the Lycans.โ
โAnd Iโm ordering you to stop talking. Now. You will answer questions only. You will not push your agenda on her. Are we clear?โ
Calebโs brow furrows slightly. He obeys, closing his mouth.
Apart from the eyes, he bore a faint resemblance to my father. At least, the fragments I could recall. My memories of him were hazy, fractured.
Except for one. The haunting image of blood streaking down his face as they dragged me away.
โYou claimed they all knew.โ Alpha Alexander steps closer to Caleb. Was this intimidation? โHow?โ
โMy informant told me.โ
โYour informant?โ
โYou couldโve asked him yourself if you hadnโt killed him.โ
I was certain Alpha Alexander would strike. Instead, he just loomed over him. It reminded me of Marcus and the others.
Hovering above me. Whispering all the vile things they planned to do.
Alpha Alexander keeps his fists at his sides. โDominic had no idea about your spy?โ
โNo.โ Calebโs eyes flick toward me. โHe was the only one who never laid a hand on you. He despised what they were doing. He wanted to beg them to stop, but it wouldโve made him look weak. Like a traitor.โ
โHe should have helped her anyway.โ
โHe was one Lycan. He couldnโt do anything except feed me information. Otherwise, Dominic would have known.โ
โWhat about you? You stood back and let them brutalize her because you feared death?โ Alpha Alexanderโs tone is icy.
Caleb looks directly at me. โIf it had been Isabella, I wouldโve died trying to save her. I wouldnโt have stopped. I wouldnโt have sat back gathering intel from the inside. I wouldโve gone in and torn heads from necks to save my sister.โ
โIt wasnโt that simple.โ Caleb protests. โI told you, I tried getting near the house. Once Dominic realized who I was, he made it impossible. I tried.โ
Calebโs blue eyes lock with mine. โI truly tried.โ
โNot enough!โ Alpha Alexander snaps. He gives a sharp nod to Beta Sebastian.
โLetโs go!โ Beta Sebastian grabs Calebโs arm and hauls him out.
โThat did not go as planned.โ Alpha Alexander sighs, moving in front of me. โI wanted him to reassure you. To tell you that whatever you become doesnโt matter. Instead, he gave you more reasons to hate yourself.โ
โHe looks like my father.โ I mumble, barely processing his words. โIโฆ I donโt want to believe it. But his eyesโฆ theyโre like mine. Like my motherโs.โ
โCould you sense him?โ
โHe smelledโฆ familiar.โ I shake my head. โThereโs nothing up here.โ I touch my temple. โI donโt remember a baby in that house.โ
โHe says heโs nineteen. That makes him three years younger. You donโt recall a toddler?โ
โNo. Nothing.โ No memory of a baby. Or a small child. I never heard talk of an attack. Never heard Dominic mention increasing security.
But I remember every face that ever hurt me.
โAnd I will hunt every single one of them down.โ Alpha Alexander murmurs, stepping closer to me.
