Chapter 0046

Athena

โ€œEnough!โ€ Alpha Alexanderโ€™s voice cuts through the tension. His crimson gaze burns into me, even as he addresses Caleb.

โ€œDonโ€™t you want justice?โ€ Calebโ€™s question hangs in the air. โ€œFor everything they did to you?โ€

โ€œI said thatโ€™s enough.โ€ Alpha Alexanderโ€™s eyes shift, pinning Caleb in place. โ€œNot another word. Athena has made her choice.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m only stating facts. The pack is rightfully hers. She could claim it. Take her place as Alpha of the Lycans.โ€

โ€œAnd Iโ€™m ordering you to stop talking. Now. You will answer questions only. You will not push your agenda on her. Are we clear?โ€

Calebโ€™s brow furrows slightly. He obeys, closing his mouth.

Apart from the eyes, he bore a faint resemblance to my father. At least, the fragments I could recall. My memories of him were hazy, fractured.

Except for one. The haunting image of blood streaking down his face as they dragged me away.

โ€œYou claimed they all knew.โ€ Alpha Alexander steps closer to Caleb. Was this intimidation? โ€œHow?โ€

โ€œMy informant told me.โ€

โ€œYour informant?โ€

โ€œYou couldโ€™ve asked him yourself if you hadnโ€™t killed him.โ€

I was certain Alpha Alexander would strike. Instead, he just loomed over him. It reminded me of Marcus and the others.

Hovering above me. Whispering all the vile things they planned to do.

Alpha Alexander keeps his fists at his sides. โ€œDominic had no idea about your spy?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Calebโ€™s eyes flick toward me. โ€œHe was the only one who never laid a hand on you. He despised what they were doing. He wanted to beg them to stop, but it wouldโ€™ve made him look weak. Like a traitor.โ€

โ€œHe should have helped her anyway.โ€

โ€œHe was one Lycan. He couldnโ€™t do anything except feed me information. Otherwise, Dominic would have known.โ€

โ€œWhat about you? You stood back and let them brutalize her because you feared death?โ€ Alpha Alexanderโ€™s tone is icy.

Caleb looks directly at me. โ€œIf it had been Isabella, I wouldโ€™ve died trying to save her. I wouldnโ€™t have stopped. I wouldnโ€™t have sat back gathering intel from the inside. I wouldโ€™ve gone in and torn heads from necks to save my sister.โ€

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t that simple.โ€ Caleb protests. โ€œI told you, I tried getting near the house. Once Dominic realized who I was, he made it impossible. I tried.โ€

Calebโ€™s blue eyes lock with mine. โ€œI truly tried.โ€

โ€œNot enough!โ€ Alpha Alexander snaps. He gives a sharp nod to Beta Sebastian.

โ€œLetโ€™s go!โ€ Beta Sebastian grabs Calebโ€™s arm and hauls him out.

โ€œThat did not go as planned.โ€ Alpha Alexander sighs, moving in front of me. โ€œI wanted him to reassure you. To tell you that whatever you become doesnโ€™t matter. Instead, he gave you more reasons to hate yourself.โ€

โ€œHe looks like my father.โ€ I mumble, barely processing his words. โ€œIโ€ฆ I donโ€™t want to believe it. But his eyesโ€ฆ theyโ€™re like mine. Like my motherโ€™s.โ€

โ€œCould you sense him?โ€

โ€œHe smelledโ€ฆ familiar.โ€ I shake my head. โ€œThereโ€™s nothing up here.โ€ I touch my temple. โ€œI donโ€™t remember a baby in that house.โ€

โ€œHe says heโ€™s nineteen. That makes him three years younger. You donโ€™t recall a toddler?โ€

โ€œNo. Nothing.โ€ No memory of a baby. Or a small child. I never heard talk of an attack. Never heard Dominic mention increasing security.

But I remember every face that ever hurt me.

โ€œAnd I will hunt every single one of them down.โ€ Alpha Alexander murmurs, stepping closer to me.
