Chapter 0145
He rolled his eyes at me.
โIโm guessing since youโre here, the Rogues are all dead.โ
His dark gaze remained fixed on me.
โItโs alright,โ I told the guard. โHeโs with Brianna.โ
โSo the female Alpha hasnโt killed her yet?โ Zachary asked, curiosity in his tone.
โNot yet. But thereโs still a decent chance.โ
Zachary sighed. โDid she apologize like I told her to?โ
โFrom what I heard, she said an apology would be worthless.โ
โBrianna!โ he muttered under his breath.
He came to a sudden halt, nostrils flaring. His eyes scanned the area. I thought he was searching for Brianna and was about to tell him where she was when I realized he was staring at my sister.
Isabella was carrying something in her arms and dropped it the moment she noticed his attention. She spun around quickly and marched away at a brisk pace.
โWolf, right?โ Zachary murmured.
โYes, thatโs Isabella, my sister. Sheโs not your biggest fan.โ
โWho is?โ He shrugged.
โThere are only four Lycans here. My mate, Sophia. Brianna. And now you. Isabella is close with my mate. She likes Sophia well enough, but every other Lycan sheโs met has been a complete pain. Everyone else here is Wolf.โ
โRight.โ His dark eyes continued scanning the area as we walked toward the house where Iโd placed Brianna.
Before Zachary could knock, Brianna threw the door open and launched herself at him. โIโm so glad youโre alive! But you shouldnโt have come. Now that youโre here, we can leave.โ
โI havenโt met the female Alpha yet,โ Zachary muttered, setting her back on her feet. He looked at me, waiting.
โSheโs resting right now.โ
โI see. Maybe a tour, then?โ he asked hopefully. I saw Brianna frown.
โAre you up to something? Because I donโt have the time or the patience for games right now,โ I warned.
Zachary smiled. โIf I were, I wouldโve taken out those two guards holding me at the border. In fact, I probably couldโve taken out most of your people in the time you were busy with your mate. Thatโs the only reason you kept me waiting so long, right?โ
โZachary!โ Brianna snapped. โYou canโt speak to him like that. Heโs the Pack Alpha.โ
Zachary glanced at her and reluctantly apologized. โPacks arenโt how I was raised. We didnโt have hierarchies.โ
โYou didnโt, but it sounds like you were the one in charge,โ I muttered. Heโd taken control of everything during our short time together.
โI suppose.โ
โWhy do you want to meet Athena?โ I pressed as Brianna retreated inside.
โYou said it yourself, Alexander. Sheโs a female Lycan Alpha. The last one. She needs all the protection she can get.โ
โShe has the pack.โ
โYes, but they arenโt Lycans.โ Zachary frowned.
What he was implying hit me. โThe Rogues are still alive, arenโt they?โ
โOne got away.โ
โWe can handle it.โ I wasnโt afraid of any beast.
โYouโve fought Lycans before, correct?โ Zachary asked.
โYes.โ
โBut you havenโt battled Rogues. Theyโre darker. Far more dangerous than those who shift between human and beast. They donโt fight to win. They fight for food. They wonโt just rip out throats or kill. Theyโll tear a body apart, drag bones and organs from flesh while the prey is still alive. Feasting on them as they beg for death.โ
โHow did you kill them?โ
โLuck. But Iโve studied them for years. Iโve provided them food. They donโt care about Wolves or other Lycans. They donโt follow commands. The only thing they care about is a full stomach.โ
โYou killed them in their sleep?โ
โI did what had to be done.โ
