Chapter 0145

He rolled his eyes at me.

โ€œIโ€™m guessing since youโ€™re here, the Rogues are all dead.โ€

His dark gaze remained fixed on me.

โ€œItโ€™s alright,โ€ I told the guard. โ€œHeโ€™s with Brianna.โ€

โ€œSo the female Alpha hasnโ€™t killed her yet?โ€ Zachary asked, curiosity in his tone.

โ€œNot yet. But thereโ€™s still a decent chance.โ€

Zachary sighed. โ€œDid she apologize like I told her to?โ€

โ€œFrom what I heard, she said an apology would be worthless.โ€

โ€œBrianna!โ€ he muttered under his breath.

He came to a sudden halt, nostrils flaring. His eyes scanned the area. I thought he was searching for Brianna and was about to tell him where she was when I realized he was staring at my sister.

Isabella was carrying something in her arms and dropped it the moment she noticed his attention. She spun around quickly and marched away at a brisk pace.

โ€œWolf, right?โ€ Zachary murmured.

โ€œYes, thatโ€™s Isabella, my sister. Sheโ€™s not your biggest fan.โ€

โ€œWho is?โ€ He shrugged.

โ€œThere are only four Lycans here. My mate, Sophia. Brianna. And now you. Isabella is close with my mate. She likes Sophia well enough, but every other Lycan sheโ€™s met has been a complete pain. Everyone else here is Wolf.โ€

โ€œRight.โ€ His dark eyes continued scanning the area as we walked toward the house where Iโ€™d placed Brianna.

Before Zachary could knock, Brianna threw the door open and launched herself at him. โ€œIโ€™m so glad youโ€™re alive! But you shouldnโ€™t have come. Now that youโ€™re here, we can leave.โ€

โ€œI havenโ€™t met the female Alpha yet,โ€ Zachary muttered, setting her back on her feet. He looked at me, waiting.

โ€œSheโ€™s resting right now.โ€

โ€œI see. Maybe a tour, then?โ€ he asked hopefully. I saw Brianna frown.

โ€œAre you up to something? Because I donโ€™t have the time or the patience for games right now,โ€ I warned.

Zachary smiled. โ€œIf I were, I wouldโ€™ve taken out those two guards holding me at the border. In fact, I probably couldโ€™ve taken out most of your people in the time you were busy with your mate. Thatโ€™s the only reason you kept me waiting so long, right?โ€

โ€œZachary!โ€ Brianna snapped. โ€œYou canโ€™t speak to him like that. Heโ€™s the Pack Alpha.โ€

Zachary glanced at her and reluctantly apologized. โ€œPacks arenโ€™t how I was raised. We didnโ€™t have hierarchies.โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t, but it sounds like you were the one in charge,โ€ I muttered. Heโ€™d taken control of everything during our short time together.

โ€œI suppose.โ€

โ€œWhy do you want to meet Athena?โ€ I pressed as Brianna retreated inside.

โ€œYou said it yourself, Alexander. Sheโ€™s a female Lycan Alpha. The last one. She needs all the protection she can get.โ€

โ€œShe has the pack.โ€

โ€œYes, but they arenโ€™t Lycans.โ€ Zachary frowned.

What he was implying hit me. โ€œThe Rogues are still alive, arenโ€™t they?โ€

โ€œOne got away.โ€

โ€œWe can handle it.โ€ I wasnโ€™t afraid of any beast.

โ€œYouโ€™ve fought Lycans before, correct?โ€ Zachary asked.

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œBut you havenโ€™t battled Rogues. Theyโ€™re darker. Far more dangerous than those who shift between human and beast. They donโ€™t fight to win. They fight for food. They wonโ€™t just rip out throats or kill. Theyโ€™ll tear a body apart, drag bones and organs from flesh while the prey is still alive. Feasting on them as they beg for death.โ€

โ€œHow did you kill them?โ€

โ€œLuck. But Iโ€™ve studied them for years. Iโ€™ve provided them food. They donโ€™t care about Wolves or other Lycans. They donโ€™t follow commands. The only thing they care about is a full stomach.โ€

โ€œYou killed them in their sleep?โ€

โ€œI did what had to be done.โ€
