Chapter 0258

โ€œYou deceitful creature!โ€

โ€œSo this was your game? Lure me into your pathetic little group?โ€

โ€œGet lost, you filthy Lycan.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s what confuses me.โ€ Brianna grips the bars, staring him down. โ€œYou were involved with a Lycan too. Sophia was a Lycan. Your actual fated mate. Did you call her filthy? If I recall correctly, she was turned, just like me!โ€

He remains silent.

โ€œExactly!โ€ Brianna mutters. โ€œAthenaโ€™s double convinced you weโ€™re tainted because weโ€™re not purebloods.โ€

โ€œShut your mouth, you impure wretch!โ€ Julian snarls.

His bones begin to crack.

We watch him transform into his Wolf.

He paces the cramped cell, inching closer to the bars. Brianna pulls her hands away just as he swipes at them.

She laughs, mirroring his pacing.

She moves back and forth outside his cell, matching his rhythm perfectly.

It infuriates my brother. He always hated being mimicked. Some things never change.

โ€œSheโ€™s poisoned your mind, Julian.โ€ I say from the chair. โ€œShe made promises she canโ€™t keep. Women like her only care about themselves.โ€

I was running out of options. This wasnโ€™t going as planned.

โ€˜Heโ€™s destroying Aspen.โ€™ Midnight whispers, her voice filled with pain. โ€˜Heโ€™s forcing the shift to crush Aspenโ€™s will.โ€™

โ€˜What? Is that even possible?โ€™

โ€˜Itโ€™s his last connection to us. If Aspen breaks, itโ€™s over.โ€™

โ€œJulian, please explain why?โ€ I try to hide my sorrow, but my expression betrays me. I feel like Iโ€™m losing him all over again.

The Wolf paces relentlessly.

Every few seconds, he slams against the bars, hoping theyโ€™ll give way.

He shifts back to human form, tying his shirt around his waist. His ribs are visible. His collarbone protrudes sharply. His skin looks stretched too tight. Iโ€™m certain his spine would be clearly visible if he turned. Heโ€™s painfully thin. Even Brianna steps back, realizing how ill he appears.

The tailored suit had hidden it well.

โ€œIs she starving you?โ€ I ask, shocked. Julian always had a huge appetite, just like me.

โ€œDonโ€™t be ridiculous. I love her. Youโ€™ll all pay for holding me captive.โ€

Brianna turns to me. Her brows furrow. โ€œI think sheโ€™s been holding him hostage.โ€

โ€œThat canโ€™t be. He marked her.โ€

โ€œMaybe thatโ€™s when things changed.โ€ She signals for us to leave the dungeon.

โ€œThe first night I went there, he was outside the house. He questioned why I was there. Claimed Seraphina wasnโ€™t home, but her car was there. The other night, he was watching from a window. She had to call him to help with me because he wouldnโ€™t come out. Even then, he seemed unsure what to do.โ€

She frowns. โ€œFor someone who leads wars, he sure struggled to restrain me.โ€ Her mind works faster than mine, piecing things together.

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œIsabella, humans lose their minds for various reasons. Trust me, Iโ€™ve seen it with my father and everyone he encountered. Rogues do the same.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s not a Rogue!โ€ I mutter.

โ€œNot him. Her. She called him degrading names, and he obeyed her every command.โ€

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t sound like him.โ€

โ€œYou saw what I saw. He hasnโ€™t eaten properly in weeks. When she arrived here, Julian was in the car. Honestly, he looked terrified. He didnโ€™t want to be here.โ€

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t explain why heโ€™s being so hostile now.โ€ I mutter.

โ€œDoesnโ€™t it? What if he knows sheโ€™s listening?โ€ She shakes her head. โ€œThere was a moment beforeโ€ฆ before my mate arrived, where I thought Julian might let me go. He removed the knives she used to pin me to the chair. He sent her away to shower.โ€

โ€œSlow torture. Weโ€™ve seen Athena do it.โ€

โ€œHe didnโ€™t hurt me again, Isabella. Heโ€™s called me many names, but โ€˜filthyโ€™ is new.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s angry. He can be cruel when heโ€™s angry. As his sister, I apologize.โ€

She dismisses my apology. โ€œI think he might be trapped and in way over his head.โ€
