Chapter 0258
โYou deceitful creature!โ
โSo this was your game? Lure me into your pathetic little group?โ
โGet lost, you filthy Lycan.โ
โThatโs what confuses me.โ Brianna grips the bars, staring him down. โYou were involved with a Lycan too. Sophia was a Lycan. Your actual fated mate. Did you call her filthy? If I recall correctly, she was turned, just like me!โ
He remains silent.
โExactly!โ Brianna mutters. โAthenaโs double convinced you weโre tainted because weโre not purebloods.โ
โShut your mouth, you impure wretch!โ Julian snarls.
His bones begin to crack.
We watch him transform into his Wolf.
He paces the cramped cell, inching closer to the bars. Brianna pulls her hands away just as he swipes at them.
She laughs, mirroring his pacing.
She moves back and forth outside his cell, matching his rhythm perfectly.
It infuriates my brother. He always hated being mimicked. Some things never change.
โSheโs poisoned your mind, Julian.โ I say from the chair. โShe made promises she canโt keep. Women like her only care about themselves.โ
I was running out of options. This wasnโt going as planned.
โHeโs destroying Aspen.โ Midnight whispers, her voice filled with pain. โHeโs forcing the shift to crush Aspenโs will.โ
โWhat? Is that even possible?โ
โItโs his last connection to us. If Aspen breaks, itโs over.โ
โJulian, please explain why?โ I try to hide my sorrow, but my expression betrays me. I feel like Iโm losing him all over again.
The Wolf paces relentlessly.
Every few seconds, he slams against the bars, hoping theyโll give way.
He shifts back to human form, tying his shirt around his waist. His ribs are visible. His collarbone protrudes sharply. His skin looks stretched too tight. Iโm certain his spine would be clearly visible if he turned. Heโs painfully thin. Even Brianna steps back, realizing how ill he appears.
The tailored suit had hidden it well.
โIs she starving you?โ I ask, shocked. Julian always had a huge appetite, just like me.
โDonโt be ridiculous. I love her. Youโll all pay for holding me captive.โ
Brianna turns to me. Her brows furrow. โI think sheโs been holding him hostage.โ
โThat canโt be. He marked her.โ
โMaybe thatโs when things changed.โ She signals for us to leave the dungeon.
โThe first night I went there, he was outside the house. He questioned why I was there. Claimed Seraphina wasnโt home, but her car was there. The other night, he was watching from a window. She had to call him to help with me because he wouldnโt come out. Even then, he seemed unsure what to do.โ
She frowns. โFor someone who leads wars, he sure struggled to restrain me.โ Her mind works faster than mine, piecing things together.
โWhat?โ
โIsabella, humans lose their minds for various reasons. Trust me, Iโve seen it with my father and everyone he encountered. Rogues do the same.โ
โHeโs not a Rogue!โ I mutter.
โNot him. Her. She called him degrading names, and he obeyed her every command.โ
โThat doesnโt sound like him.โ
โYou saw what I saw. He hasnโt eaten properly in weeks. When she arrived here, Julian was in the car. Honestly, he looked terrified. He didnโt want to be here.โ
โThat doesnโt explain why heโs being so hostile now.โ I mutter.
โDoesnโt it? What if he knows sheโs listening?โ She shakes her head. โThere was a moment beforeโฆ before my mate arrived, where I thought Julian might let me go. He removed the knives she used to pin me to the chair. He sent her away to shower.โ
โSlow torture. Weโve seen Athena do it.โ
โHe didnโt hurt me again, Isabella. Heโs called me many names, but โfilthyโ is new.โ
โHeโs angry. He can be cruel when heโs angry. As his sister, I apologize.โ
She dismisses my apology. โI think he might be trapped and in way over his head.โ
