Chapter 0400

Theodore

I stared up at him. "Why are you doing this?"

He paced back and forth across the small room. My head still felt heavy. But it reminded me of my childhood. When my parents would tie me up. I just felt weaker now. It was manageable.

"Do you always talk this much?" His voice was a low growl. He kept glancing out the window of the old cabin. Like he expected someone to follow us. No one knew I had left. But they would figure it out soon.

"Usually. That's my reputation in Obsidian Howl. I crave knowledge. My entire house is stacked with books." I twisted my bound hands. Trying to create some slack. The rope burned my skin with every movement.

"Alright then, Mr. Knowledge. Tell me how to get Seraphina and Evelyn out of the dungeons."

"You can't. They're heavily guarded. They'll spot you from every angle. You'd be a fool to think Alexander only posted one guard. Why do you even want them back? They're useless to you now."

"They didn't see me coming to the hospital, did they?" He smirked, ignoring my question.

"Because it wasn't a priority."

He ran a hand through his short blonde hair. "You're going to help me get them back."

"The deal was that if I came with you, you wouldn't harm anyone inside the pack."

"They aren't part of the pack."

I laughed. "Inside the pack. That was the agreement. I've read enough contracts to know the exact wording!"

He crouched down in front of me. His sage green eyes studied me intently. "You love that pack. Why?"

"It's my family."

He laughed and shook his head. "There are plenty of bad people in Obsidian Howl."

"And you're not bad? You strip people of their abilities. To me, that's evil." My neck still ached where he had injected me. I fought desperately against the drowsiness. But sleep was pulling me under. I needed to get as much information from him as possible. I would find a way to get it to Alexander or the others.

"No Theodore, I'm fixing everything that's wrong." He stated firmly.

"According to who? You? Why do you get to decide what's right and wrong?"

His fingers gripped my cheeks. He squeezed hard enough to cause pain. "Someone has to. Now get some sleep. We have a big day tomorrow."

He left the room. He watched me as he quietly closed the door. Within seconds, my eyelids became too heavy to keep open.

"Wakey wakey, sleeping beauty." He nudged my legs with his boot.

Groaning, I pushed myself up until I was sitting against the wall. "Here, eat."

He placed an apple in my hands. "I don't need you starving."

I took a bite as he watched me. "I assume you didn't tell them. Is that why you came so easily?"

"Tell them what?"

โ€œOh, you know exactly what I'm talking about." He squatted and wiped some apple juice from my chin.

I took another bite. I refused to say anything.

"Just so you're aware, what I drugged you with isn't permanent like Hannah's or Seraphina's. In a couple of days, you'll be able to scent me again. Though I'm hoping I can convince you not to reject me.โ€

The blue flecks in his sage green eyes seemed brighter. Full of hope. Like he was completely convinced I would join him. Just because he happened to be my mate. "Maybe I can convince you not to be a jerk!"

He smiled at me. He pulled a bottle of water from inside his jacket. "As much as you think I'm a jerk, I'd rather you didn't die on my watch." โ€œBut you'll gladly ruin the lives of others." My eyes moved to the bottle. But I didn't pick it up.
