Chapter 0427
Athena
โAnd she was genuinely kind?โ I question Hannah, struggling to accept her account of Seraphina.
โSeraphina must be deceiving us, right?โ Nyx murmurs internally.
โShe was. Luc made her visibly anxious, and she kept glancing around to track his location. But in the end, she didnโt speak negatively about anyone except Levi. I barely know her, which is exactly why I offered to be present. I thought if she was putting on an act, she might reveal her true intentions to a stranger, or someone whoโs endured similar trauma. I even showed her the bruises I still carry. And you know what? She advised me to rest. But I insisted on helping.โ
โYou didnโt need to go that far.โ
โI know. I just wanted to contribute. You and the Alpha are both allowing me to stay in the house, even though Iโve lost my Lycan abilities. This felt like something I could actually do.โ
โHas Luc discussed your Lycan with you?โ I ask.
โHe suggested that you bite me to restore my abilities.โ
โHe did what?โ Nyx responds, clearly startled by the idea.
โI told him Iโm not even certain thatโs what I want anymore.โ
โThatโฆ wasnโt what I meant. Thereโs a possibility your lack of abilities is only temporary. They might return.โ
She frowns and shakes her head firmly. โNo.โ
โWhat do you mean, โnoโ?โ
โLevi told me. Itโs all a bit foggy, you understand.โ She taps her temple gently. โBut he definitely said it. He called it my punishment for being with Luc. He said I would never experience being a Lycan again. Only those who are worthy deserve it.โ
โBut it wore off for Evelyn?โ Nyx whispers.
โHe said never?โ I press.
Hannah nods. โSomething about how he doesnโt make mistakes.โ
โHe doesnโt make mistakes?โ
โSorry.โ She shrugs slightly. โLike I said, itโs still fuzzy. Sometimes the memories donโt feel coherent. Occasionally, a clear memory surfaces, and I know itโs not a dream. I remember him standing over me, saying those exact words.โ
โHe doesnโt make mistakes? That feels like a hidden message,โ Nyx mutters.
โI agree.โ
โDo you remember anything else, Hannah?โ
She shakes her head. โIโm sorry, Athena. I try, and Luc keeps asking me. But when I attempt to recall, it feels like Iโm being pulled into a dream. I canโt always distinguish whatโs real. Is it okay if I go lie down? Itโs been a long day.โ
โOf course.โ I offer a warm smile as Nyx repeatedly echoes Hannahโs words.
โHe doesnโt make mistakes.โ
โItโs a strange thing to say, right?โ I mutter to Nyx.
โYep!โ She emphasizes the โpโ. โEveryone makes mistakes. Do you think she knows something more?โ
I shake my head. โI doubt she could keep anything from Luc. Not through words, and not because heโd see it in her soul.โ
I sink onto the sofa, tucking my legs beneath me. โDo you think he messed up by saying that to her?โ I speak aloud, yawning.
โLike I said, everyone makes mistakes, so itโs possible. Maybe Levi thought she was unconscious? Maybe he believed she couldnโt hear him?โ
โMaybe.โ Itโs incredibly frustrating.
Nothing about Levi adds up. What was his goal in turning some of Alexanderโs Wolves to his side? Why target Seraphina and then Hannah? Why did he have such control over Evelyn? There are no clear connections between any of them.
โPower?โ Nyx mutters.
โThen why hasnโt he come after me or Alexander? He isnโt accomplishing anything by targeting the people he has. Hannah couldnโt even shift, and he knew that!โ
The front door swings open, and moments later, Lucโs scent fills the room. He drops onto the sofa opposite me. His hazel eyes study me intently. โAlexander isnโt happy.โ
โI know,โ I mutter.
โHe feels heโs losing the pack.โ
โI know.โ
He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. โThat could mean trouble, Athena. For everyone. Iโm aware Alexander has his methods, but Iโve seen what happens to angry Alphas. Iโve watched their packs disintegrate.โ
โWhat do you suggest?โ I mutter. โBecause some members of this pack seem to be forgetting whoโs in charge.โ
โWe go after Levi. Deal with him permanently. Bring Theodore home. Just you and me. In and out. We leave Levi with a bullet in his brain.โ
โIโm not doing that. Thatโs exactly what Levi wants us to do. As much as Theodore is family, heโs safe as long as we donโt intervene. Levi believes Theodore is his mate.โ
