Chapter 0427

Athena

โ€œAnd she was genuinely kind?โ€ I question Hannah, struggling to accept her account of Seraphina.

โ€˜Seraphina must be deceiving us, right?โ€™ Nyx murmurs internally.

โ€œShe was. Luc made her visibly anxious, and she kept glancing around to track his location. But in the end, she didnโ€™t speak negatively about anyone except Levi. I barely know her, which is exactly why I offered to be present. I thought if she was putting on an act, she might reveal her true intentions to a stranger, or someone whoโ€™s endured similar trauma. I even showed her the bruises I still carry. And you know what? She advised me to rest. But I insisted on helping.โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t need to go that far.โ€

โ€œI know. I just wanted to contribute. You and the Alpha are both allowing me to stay in the house, even though Iโ€™ve lost my Lycan abilities. This felt like something I could actually do.โ€

โ€œHas Luc discussed your Lycan with you?โ€ I ask.

โ€œHe suggested that you bite me to restore my abilities.โ€

โ€˜He did what?โ€™ Nyx responds, clearly startled by the idea.

โ€œI told him Iโ€™m not even certain thatโ€™s what I want anymore.โ€

โ€œThatโ€ฆ wasnโ€™t what I meant. Thereโ€™s a possibility your lack of abilities is only temporary. They might return.โ€

She frowns and shakes her head firmly. โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean, โ€˜noโ€™?โ€

โ€œLevi told me. Itโ€™s all a bit foggy, you understand.โ€ She taps her temple gently. โ€œBut he definitely said it. He called it my punishment for being with Luc. He said I would never experience being a Lycan again. Only those who are worthy deserve it.โ€

โ€˜But it wore off for Evelyn?โ€™ Nyx whispers.

โ€œHe said never?โ€ I press.

Hannah nods. โ€œSomething about how he doesnโ€™t make mistakes.โ€

โ€œHe doesnโ€™t make mistakes?โ€

โ€œSorry.โ€ She shrugs slightly. โ€œLike I said, itโ€™s still fuzzy. Sometimes the memories donโ€™t feel coherent. Occasionally, a clear memory surfaces, and I know itโ€™s not a dream. I remember him standing over me, saying those exact words.โ€

โ€˜He doesnโ€™t make mistakes? That feels like a hidden message,โ€™ Nyx mutters.

โ€˜I agree.โ€™

โ€œDo you remember anything else, Hannah?โ€

She shakes her head. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Athena. I try, and Luc keeps asking me. But when I attempt to recall, it feels like Iโ€™m being pulled into a dream. I canโ€™t always distinguish whatโ€™s real. Is it okay if I go lie down? Itโ€™s been a long day.โ€

โ€œOf course.โ€ I offer a warm smile as Nyx repeatedly echoes Hannahโ€™s words.

โ€˜He doesnโ€™t make mistakes.โ€™

โ€˜Itโ€™s a strange thing to say, right?โ€™ I mutter to Nyx.

โ€˜Yep!โ€™ She emphasizes the โ€˜pโ€™. โ€˜Everyone makes mistakes. Do you think she knows something more?โ€™

I shake my head. โ€˜I doubt she could keep anything from Luc. Not through words, and not because heโ€™d see it in her soul.โ€™

I sink onto the sofa, tucking my legs beneath me. โ€œDo you think he messed up by saying that to her?โ€ I speak aloud, yawning.

โ€˜Like I said, everyone makes mistakes, so itโ€™s possible. Maybe Levi thought she was unconscious? Maybe he believed she couldnโ€™t hear him?โ€™

โ€œMaybe.โ€ Itโ€™s incredibly frustrating.

Nothing about Levi adds up. What was his goal in turning some of Alexanderโ€™s Wolves to his side? Why target Seraphina and then Hannah? Why did he have such control over Evelyn? There are no clear connections between any of them.

โ€˜Power?โ€™ Nyx mutters.

โ€œThen why hasnโ€™t he come after me or Alexander? He isnโ€™t accomplishing anything by targeting the people he has. Hannah couldnโ€™t even shift, and he knew that!โ€

The front door swings open, and moments later, Lucโ€™s scent fills the room. He drops onto the sofa opposite me. His hazel eyes study me intently. โ€œAlexander isnโ€™t happy.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ I mutter.

โ€œHe feels heโ€™s losing the pack.โ€

โ€œI know.โ€

He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. โ€œThat could mean trouble, Athena. For everyone. Iโ€™m aware Alexander has his methods, but Iโ€™ve seen what happens to angry Alphas. Iโ€™ve watched their packs disintegrate.โ€

โ€œWhat do you suggest?โ€ I mutter. โ€œBecause some members of this pack seem to be forgetting whoโ€™s in charge.โ€

โ€œWe go after Levi. Deal with him permanently. Bring Theodore home. Just you and me. In and out. We leave Levi with a bullet in his brain.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not doing that. Thatโ€™s exactly what Levi wants us to do. As much as Theodore is family, heโ€™s safe as long as we donโ€™t intervene. Levi believes Theodore is his mate.โ€
