Chapter 0107
Alexander
โNo.โ
โThis isnโt up for debate!โ I snap at my brother. I would never send my mate straight into a death trap.
โAlexander, you brought me back for my strategic mind!โ
โThere has to be another option.โ
I was relieved that Isabella had persuaded Athena to take a walk with her. She didnโt need to hear Julian and me fighting. Knowing her, sheโd likely agree to his reckless plan.
โTheyโll know, Julian. They arenโt foolish enough to believe Iโd abandon her. Theyโll wait. Theyโll expect some of us to stay behind. They know I would never leave her unguarded.โ
โThatโs exactly why it will work.โ
If he werenโt lying injured in that bed, my fist would have met his face.
โYou insisted on bringing him back!โ Titan grumbled.
โSometimes the simplest plans are the most effective.โ Julian sighed, still avoiding my gaze.
โWeโll find another damn way!โ
I collapsed into the chair beside his bed. I expected more from my own brother. He should understand I wonโt gamble with Athenaโs life.
โJust hear me out, will you?โ he shot back.
I gestured for him to continue, though my answer would still be no.
โYou can mind-link her, correct?โ he asked.
โObviously.โ
โThen she wonโt be alone. We send her into the forest as bait while the pack picks off the Lycans one by one.โ
โNo. I am not sending her out there alone!โ We were going in circles. My patience was fraying. Why couldnโt he grasp this was not an option?
โThen Iโm out of ideas, Alexander. You rejected the first plan too. These bastards wonโt go down easy. We donโt know what tricks they have. We have no clue how many theyโve turned. For all we know, thousands could be marching toward us right now.โ He rubbed his temples. โSome might be as young as that kid at Sebastianโs house. They can shift at thirteen, right?โ
He winced as he adjusted himself in the bed.
โYouโre right,โ I muttered. โWe donโt know their numbers. Look at you. One big Lycan took you out.โ
He bared his teeth at me. โI was protecting your mate.โ
โClearly!โ I snorted. โShe was the one who killed it.โ
The color drained from his face. โIsabella said it was you and Theodore.โ
I shook my head. โAthena has fully embraced her Alpha nature. She completed her shift. Killed it the same way she killed the other one. All I did was burn the corpse.โ
โShe went for the heart again, didnโt she?โ
โThereโs no coming back from a pierced heart,โ I mused. Twice now, her first and only target was the heart. Most Wolves aim for the throat. It was almost instinctual, deeply ingrained in her.
I stood up. โIf they capture her, she wonโt survive.โ
โDonโt they want her for an heir?โ
โItโs different now. She is exactly what she was meant to be. If they find a way to bind her power again, she will die. Every path leads to her death. Titan and I refuse to let that happen.โ
He looked me dead in the eye. โSo put a fucking pup in her!โ
โWeโve had this conversation,โ I said, exhausted. It was like talking to a wall.
Iโve told you repeatedly. Your brother is an idiot.โ Titan shook his head.
โNo.โ Julian pushed himself up higher, grimacing in pain. โYouโre not listening. They just need to believe she is carrying your heir. So does everyone else.โ
โYou want to win this war with a lie?โ
โIโm saying all is fair in war. Itโs not the worst thing weโve ever done.โ His dark eyes scanned the room for eavesdroppers. โPlay them at their own game. Isnโt that what theyโve always done? They made her believe she was one of us. We can call in every single pack bound by loyalty to you. Because the Lycans wonโt just be coming for her. Theyโll be coming for your pup.โ He emphasized the last word. โShe doesnโt need to be near the fight. They just need to believe it.โ
