Chapter 0107

Alexander

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œThis isnโ€™t up for debate!โ€ I snap at my brother. I would never send my mate straight into a death trap.

โ€œAlexander, you brought me back for my strategic mind!โ€

โ€œThere has to be another option.โ€

I was relieved that Isabella had persuaded Athena to take a walk with her. She didnโ€™t need to hear Julian and me fighting. Knowing her, sheโ€™d likely agree to his reckless plan.

โ€œTheyโ€™ll know, Julian. They arenโ€™t foolish enough to believe Iโ€™d abandon her. Theyโ€™ll wait. Theyโ€™ll expect some of us to stay behind. They know I would never leave her unguarded.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s exactly why it will work.โ€

If he werenโ€™t lying injured in that bed, my fist would have met his face.

โ€˜You insisted on bringing him back!โ€™ Titan grumbled.

โ€œSometimes the simplest plans are the most effective.โ€ Julian sighed, still avoiding my gaze.

โ€œWeโ€™ll find another damn way!โ€

I collapsed into the chair beside his bed. I expected more from my own brother. He should understand I wonโ€™t gamble with Athenaโ€™s life.

โ€œJust hear me out, will you?โ€ he shot back.

I gestured for him to continue, though my answer would still be no.

โ€œYou can mind-link her, correct?โ€ he asked.

โ€œObviously.โ€

โ€œThen she wonโ€™t be alone. We send her into the forest as bait while the pack picks off the Lycans one by one.โ€

โ€œNo. I am not sending her out there alone!โ€ We were going in circles. My patience was fraying. Why couldnโ€™t he grasp this was not an option?

โ€œThen Iโ€™m out of ideas, Alexander. You rejected the first plan too. These bastards wonโ€™t go down easy. We donโ€™t know what tricks they have. We have no clue how many theyโ€™ve turned. For all we know, thousands could be marching toward us right now.โ€ He rubbed his temples. โ€œSome might be as young as that kid at Sebastianโ€™s house. They can shift at thirteen, right?โ€

He winced as he adjusted himself in the bed.

โ€œYouโ€™re right,โ€ I muttered. โ€œWe donโ€™t know their numbers. Look at you. One big Lycan took you out.โ€

He bared his teeth at me. โ€œI was protecting your mate.โ€

โ€œClearly!โ€ I snorted. โ€œShe was the one who killed it.โ€

The color drained from his face. โ€œIsabella said it was you and Theodore.โ€

I shook my head. โ€œAthena has fully embraced her Alpha nature. She completed her shift. Killed it the same way she killed the other one. All I did was burn the corpse.โ€

โ€œShe went for the heart again, didnโ€™t she?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s no coming back from a pierced heart,โ€ I mused. Twice now, her first and only target was the heart. Most Wolves aim for the throat. It was almost instinctual, deeply ingrained in her.

I stood up. โ€œIf they capture her, she wonโ€™t survive.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t they want her for an heir?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s different now. She is exactly what she was meant to be. If they find a way to bind her power again, she will die. Every path leads to her death. Titan and I refuse to let that happen.โ€

He looked me dead in the eye. โ€œSo put a fucking pup in her!โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve had this conversation,โ€ I said, exhausted. It was like talking to a wall.

Iโ€™ve told you repeatedly. Your brother is an idiot.โ€™ Titan shook his head.

โ€œNo.โ€ Julian pushed himself up higher, grimacing in pain. โ€œYouโ€™re not listening. They just need to believe she is carrying your heir. So does everyone else.โ€

โ€œYou want to win this war with a lie?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m saying all is fair in war. Itโ€™s not the worst thing weโ€™ve ever done.โ€ His dark eyes scanned the room for eavesdroppers. โ€œPlay them at their own game. Isnโ€™t that what theyโ€™ve always done? They made her believe she was one of us. We can call in every single pack bound by loyalty to you. Because the Lycans wonโ€™t just be coming for her. Theyโ€™ll be coming for your pup.โ€ He emphasized the last word. โ€œShe doesnโ€™t need to be near the fight. They just need to believe it.โ€
