Chapter 0101
โWhat now?โ I whispered, still accustomed to others having the solutions.
Isabella chuckled softly. โAthena, since your arrival, Iโve watched your confidence grow day by day. You couldnโt even step into the snow back then.โ
She reminded me of the man Iโd killed recently.
Then she pointed out Iโd journeyed alone from the pack house to here.
Her gaze held mine. โYou donโt need my answers. You already know what to do.โ
My shoulders slumped. โCan we really solve this?โ
โMy brother has never been stopped by anything.โ Her voice was firm. โIf your mind is set, heโll find a way. And Julianโฆ heโs a master of strategy. His advice could be valuable.โ
I hesitated. โAlpha Alexander forbade me from being alone with him.โ
She smiled, gesturing around the empty hospital. โIโll accompany you.โ
She quickly located his whereabouts and scribbled a note, instructing others to link her if needed, then stuck it to the table.
โWhere is he?โ I asked, recalling heโd left during our meeting at Beta Sebastianโs home with Sophia.
โOn duty.โ
Venturing into the forest without Alpha Alexanderโs permission was definitely against the rules.
We moved silently into the woods. Isabella ensured we avoided the boundaries, guiding us deep into the darkest parts. Iโd asked Nyx to block Alpha Alexander from my thoughts temporarily, just so I could think clearly.
Scents mingled among the trees, making it hard to distinguish individuals. The guards rotated constantly to stay alert and confuse any intruders.
โDoes Alexander know youโre this far out?โ Julianโs voice came from above as he dropped from a tree, landing before us.
โWhy were you up there?โ Isabella snapped.
โTaking a page from Calebโs book, if that was even his real name.โ His dark eyes fixed on me, sending a shiver down my spine. I was relieved not to be alone with him. โYou wanted to speak to me?โ He scanned the area quickly.
โHave youโฆ found a way to handle them?โ
โAlmost. Do you have information that could help?โ
Nyx whispered a warning in my mind.
โI just want this to end.โ I noticed Isabella giving me a strange look, but she remained silent.
โYou came all this way to ask that?โ He raised an eyebrow. โMy people are exhausted, working tirelessly to keep everyone safe. Theyโre starting to make mistakes.โ
โMistakes?โ Isabella questioned.
โItโs been dealt with.โ His glance at me suggested punishments had been carried out.
โI never asked for any of this.โ
He placed his hands on my shoulders, and every muscle in my body tensed. โAre you seeking trouble, Athena?โ
He turned me toward the direction weโd come from. โReturn to the house.โ
โIf I accept my Alpha position, will that help?โ The words spilled out.
His hands dropped, and he moved in front of me, frowning deeply. โI thought you didnโt want that?โ
โI told Alpha Alexander I believe itโs what they expect.โ I sighed, glancing at Isabella, who nodded encouragement. โI think itโs a trap. Caleb was supposed to persuade me to accept. I thinkโฆโ I groaned. โAlpha Alexander believes I should link them one by one.โ
โNo.โ
His immediate, firm response startled me.
โNo, thatโs not what they expect? Or no, Alexander is wrong?โ Isabella asked.
โBoth.โ He winked at me.
โI donโt understand.โ
โCaleb got inside your head, Athena. He was testing how far youโd go to ignore your Alpha blood. It was a game. Iโve seen it before. Youโre unique. They know it, and we know it too.โ
โYou think she should accept her role?โ Isabella pressed.
โThatโs not my decision. But if she does, it could work to our advantage.โ
โYou want me to link them?โ
โNo. That would enrage Victoria. Itโll draw her and the others out. Like it or not, theyโll recognize who the true Alpha is. Thatโs what counts. No linking necessary.โ
โPlan B,โ Isabella murmured.
โPlan B,โ Julian confirmed.
Heโd been hoping for this all along. โWhatโฆ what is Plan B?โ
Julian smiled at me. โYou.โ
