Chapter 0134
โWhat did you do to her?โ Julian demands.
I hadnโt even realized he was awake. I wondered how much he had heard.
โShe begged me. Tried to convince me the people upstairs were deceiving me. Claimed it was her home. That her parents owned the house.โ She paused, voice dropping. โOnly looking back do I understandโI didnโt see how sick she was. How frail. The shadows under her eyes. All I saw was the โliarโ Victoria had warned me about. And I believed every word.โ
Brianna lowered her head. โShe didnโt fight back. She was too weak.โ
Listening to her was horrifying. It also revealed how much Athena had kept from me about her past. Or perhaps it was a memory she had forced herself to forget.
โEven now, I still hear the soundโher skull cracking against the wall.โ
โYou shifted?โ Julian asked.
โNo.โ She shook her head. โI was just furious. And suddenly, I had the strength of a Lycan.โ Her eyes locked on me. โIs she truly alive? Youโre not lying to make me talk?โ
โSheโs alive.โ
โBut how? She shouldnโt have survived that.โ
โThe Moon Goddess wills it,โ I murmured.
โHow did you know she was an Alpha?โ Julian pressed.
โI overheard them talking. I didnโt know what โAlphaโ meant. Not until I escaped. Not until I met others.โ
โVictoria kicked you out after?โ Julian continued, skeptical.
โNo. I was so disgusted with myself, I ran. I didnโt stop until her voiceโVictoriaโs demandsโfaded from my mind.โ
โWhat about the others?โ Julianโs tone was doubtful. โIf you were the first, how are there more in this area?โ
โWe found each other. Or rather, they found me.โ
Thatโs bullshit! Titan snapped.
โWere they all bitten by Victoria?โ I asked.
She nodded. โFor someone who rarely shifted, she loved creating us.โ She glanced toward the broken window. โThe sunโs rising. We should get ready to move.โ
Brianna headed upstairs. She didnโt seem worried about leaving us alone. Maybe there was truth in her story after all.
I donโt buy it. Julianโs voice echoed in my head. Sheโs playing the victim card. I donโt trust her.
You donโt have to. She said sheโd help us find Sophia. All she wants is money. I can provide that.
Julian frowned. I thought youโd want her dead after what she confessed.
I do. But that wonโt help us find your mate, will it?
โDonโt call her that!โ he snapped.
Brianna reappeared, eyeing us suspiciously. โWhat are you arguing about?โ
โSophia,โ I muttered.
She nodded slowly, but her eyes narrowed. โRight.โ Her tone made it clear she didnโt believe us.
She dragged a heavy bag down the stairs. It thumped loudly with each step.
โWhatโs in there?โ Julian asked.
โWeapons.โ Her gaze shifted to me. โWhere do you think they took this girl?โ
โSomewhere called Shadow Peaks.โ
She laughed. โShadow Peaks? You packs need better naming skills. But I know the place.โ
โWhat do you call yourselves? The ones who got away?โ
โRogues. And we are not a pack.โ
โRogues?โ Julian repeated.
โWe donโt belong. And we donโt want to.โ She spat the words out.
โBut youโll help us?โ
โAs long as you donโt do anything stupid.โ She smirked.
She led us almost a mile from the house to a beat-up car. Tossing her bag into the back, she ordered, โGet in!โ
Brianna slid into the driverโs seat, gripping the wheel tightly.
โWe donโt have all day!โ she snapped. โThe sunโs up. Donโt you want to find your mate?โ
โGet in,โ I told Julian.
He took the back. I sat up front beside her.
She hit the gas, driving like the road was hers alone.
โWill you chill? We donโt need cops chasing us!โ I warned.
She grinned, eyes on the road. โNo police out here.โ
โStop the car!โ Julian shouted after thirty minutes.
โBut we need toโโ Brianna began.
โI can smell her.โ
She pulled over. Julian burst out, scanning the area.
โTire tracks,โ he muttered, crouching down.
โThat could be anyoneโs,โ Brianna said.
He inhaled deeply. โShe got out. She ran!โ
Julian stared at the cornfield ahead. He moved toward the fence, plucking a stem.
โWhat is it?โ
โDried blood,โ he growled.
